if you’re going to do afternoonteain london, the ritz is the place to do it.  the quintessential english favourite, it’s easy to see why it occupies the position it does. the team room is pure glamour – high ceilings, golden chandeliers, a bower of flowers alongside clinking china, hushed conversations and the scraping of plates. husband and i are at their 7:30pm sitting, a tad late for afternoonteabut treating it as our evening meal seems to be a sensible strategy.  certainly i’m not one to complain about cakes and scones for dinner. we start off withtea– orange pekoe with a side of champers for husband & having overdosed onteaearlier in the afternoon, i opt for the passionfruit & apple herbal number.  delicious.  sure beats the supermarket numbers i usually have. the sandwiches are chicken mayo, cucumber & chives, smoked salmon & ham with mustard.  the ham & smoked salmon were definite favourites and we cheekily took advantage of a few helpings of those! but for me, it was th

christmas highteawith carols - one for the bucket lists!

over the christmas period, we got to experience the magical christmas highteathat the ritz offers.

🔆 the ambience was something i doubt i’ll ever experience again. the room was filled with beautiful christmas decorations that added to the overall feeling of elegance. the christmas carol singers beautifully sung accompanying a pianist. their voices filled the room without overpowering it. it really did feel truly magical.

👥 the service was outstanding with each waiter sticking to a clear role. they all seamlessly worked together to make such a smooth dining experience. it was actually quite remarkable watching them all perform their work.

whilst it wasn’t a cheap high tea, it was everything we expected plus more! it was an experience that i’ll never forget and truly cherish from my visit to london.

the highteais what the english truly love and stand for, and its that afternoon mingling that we had a chance to do at one of the uber luxury hotels in the world - the ritz, london.

the array of teas offered was simply unique and delightful. among others that we sampled, was the darjeeling first flush and the british favorite, earl grey. eachteahad its distinct flavor and lasting taste.

the accompaniments with theteawere some delicious pastries, sandwiches, and cupcakes.

the luxurious victorian decor, with ceilings decorated in gold and white, the live music played by a master pianist, the polished butlers and servers who engaged with us in the most pleasant manner - all gave us a truly lasting experience of the quintessential afternoon must-do in the british atypical day, in an exceptionally luxurious manner nevertheless - highteaat the ritz

this is the most authentic place one can go to for afternoonteain london. the decor screams victorian and dated. the staff is the most polite i have ever come across. the toilets are still called powder rooms. everything is so pretty. the best desserts i have had till now. theteasmelled so good and the sandwiches have never been so tasty before.

it’s not for me, i think, all that gilt, all those mirrors and all those middle-aged women listening to the plinkety-plink of the piano,  whilst stuffing their faces with champagne, tea, sandwiches and cake.  i’m far too cool for this, i kid myself. i entirely ignore the fact that i am a middle-aged woman with a fondness for champagne, sandwiches, teaand cake.

ah, the iconic ritz...not too much else you can say! just kidding, so much to say!

had afternoonteaand would highly recommend. theteaselection is amazing, and the staff are knowledgeable. the food obviously is amazing!

but what actually makes the ritz so amazing is the ambiance. the  table settings are beautiful, the food and drink delicate and beautiful,  the floor plan and seating is sophisticated and comfortable. you really feel like you have to put your best foot forward to go here because they certainly do!

we made our way past the gorgeous palm court, where the iconic ritz afternoonteais served. i've tried theteaa few times, it's incredible but you need to book well in advance as it's very popular.

the dining room of the ritz is probably one of the most beautiful dining rooms i've ever seen. windows are floor to ceiling with heavily draped curtains, mirrored walls, neoclassical statues and colossal marble columns reaching up to the beautiful, ornate ceiling.

and hanging from the painted ceiling are garland chandeliers so that you feel you're sitting under a sky of stars..
the table is of course beautifully set with a silver tray for the salt and pepper....

and the plates are a beautiful bluish-green colour with gold edging and a ritz stamp on them.

our gorgeous champagne glasses also had the special stamp of luxury on them.

experience a typical english afternoontea in a royal way!
the moment you step in till the time you leave feel the royal air around you! dress well before going here- thats a tip :)
the beautiful piano being played throughout just added to the ambience.
theteaserved in the silver teapots  were constantly being refilled and so as the sandwiches. food is fabulous but what leaves an impression is the place, service and ambience.
the staff were incredible.
to be honest its something everyone should experience once in their lives. truly amazing experience!
book well in advance as very busy.

this restaurant gave us a really nice dining experience, except for one glaring and inexcusable error. they had the most posh settings, and a lovely decor. theteawas wonderfully hot an delicious, and the cakes were ravishing. but, we noticed that we were served our courses only after the two tables beside us had been served completely. the only reason i could fathom for this was that my partner is chinese, and i am very upset with this kind of prejudice.

lovely place to stop by forteaand cakes. the food is great too, complete with all kinds of scones, waffles and cakes, which they keep bringing without having to ask. even celebrated sister in law's birthday here, and it was a memorable experience too.

if you are looking for afternoonteathen you must give this place a visit else there is nothing special about this place. you won't be having any fine dining experience and the service is also not that good . i do not think that i will be coming here again.

if you're going to do afternoonteain london, the ritz is the place to do it. the quintessential english favourite, it's easy to see why it occupies the position it does.

the team room is pure glamour - high ceilings, golden chandeliers, a bower of flowers alongside clinking china, hushed conversations and the scraping of plates.

husband and i are at their 7:30pm sitting, a tad late for afternoonteabut treating it as our evening meal seems to be a sensible strategy. certainly i'm not one to complain about cakes and scones for dinner.

we start off withtea- orange pekoe with a side of champers for husband & having overdosed onteaearlier in the afternoon, i opt for the passionfruit & apple herbal number. delicious. sure beats the supermarket numbers i usually have.

the sandwiches are chicken mayo, cucumber & chives, smoked salmon & ham with mustard. the ham & smoked salmon were definite favourites and we cheekily took advantage of a few helpings of those!

but for me, it was the scones that stole the day. i've never been a real scone aficionado, i'll usually have one, nod politely and move on to another course. not this time. i had 3. it wasn't just that they were warm and soft and melt in the mouth - i can't even explain - they were perfectly formed rounds of goodness. they held their shape perfectly on cutting - no crumbs at the ritz thank you very much.

despite scone-ish gluttony, i still managed to find room for dessert. the dessert plate came with macaroons (half lemon & half blueberry with a white choc center), a divine chocolate mousse and a light as air sponge.

the trolley came around with strawberry trifle and a choice of black forest cake and lemon drizzle. we both opted for the dark, dense black forest - not as much cherry as i'd like but delicious none the less. trifles were similarly demolished at speed.

for a special occasion, it's easy to see why the ritz is largely seen as the 'place for tea'. it's glamorous with a touch of old fashioned class and charm.

afternoonteaat the ritz is the worst of london's grand hotels. rushed, disinterested service, and squashed seating. we were being served desserts within half an hour and hadn't even got our tea. after an hour tables were being cleared for next service and we were prompted with our bill. the aim was clearly to get us out. sandwiches were ok, scones had no texture, cakes to be fair were great. far better places to go unless ritz name is your thing.
