the republic steakhouse

probably won't go back. recently took a friend to celebrate her 18th birthday and was disappointed almost from the start. we were seated next to a table of 12 or more people and there was so much noise from the waiter and the people seated at the table, i had to ask to be moved to a quieter area. we had the calimari for an appetizer and it was rather rubbery. my friend had the chicken fried filet mignon and i had a three fish plate that was not on the menu. it took a long time for thefoodto arrive and when it did, there was so littlefoodon the plates, i thought we may have been served appetizers rather than a main entree. this was the second time i have visited this restaurant and i was also served an undersized portion then. the whole evening was a letdown as it was supposed to be for a special person's birthday. i probably will not return again. i might add i have been to several high-end restaurants and unfortunately, in some, the chef was more interested in presentation at the price of quantity of serving and taste. i think that was the case with this restaurant.

amazing!! the service was great, the staff was friendly, and thefoodwas delicious. highly recommend the filet with blue cheese, and the mac n' cheese.

great service only ok food. service is probably the best i have ever seen. been there 4 times and every time a different waiter/waitress. all were great!!foodis just ok. i expect much more in a place like this.

not that great. good service but thefoodwas below par. my girlfriend and i like to eat out and try quality food. when we order, we get 2 plates so we can each sense the best of the restaurant. we ate on a friday night, february 28th 2014, to be exact.

here's our viewpoint. the tuna role(forgot the name) was great. a very nice explosion of textures and flavors with a ginger sauce that changed it up a little just for fun.

the steak, on the other hand, couldn't hold a flavor itself and was not moist. when introduced to the sauces i was excited about making the steak a little more but felt i could identify a common condiment in each sauce that really took the interest right out of me. the short rib stank. it was so full of sodium i felt like they took it out of a microwave with preservatives and all. absolutely not fresh. hoping the potatoes would muffle the salt was a bad thing to do. the mashed potatoes had more salt that i would deem palatable. the cauliflower had a good texture but was smothered by a high concentration of sodium and stinky cheese. love the stinky cheese but that along with the short rib made me feel sick.

paterson house drink was okay with some flavors i hadn't blended before in my mouth but if i had to choose, we'd go there just for drinks though i'm not much of a drinker.

the total was $100 for a drink, 2 main courses with some artsy coverup, a vegitable and an appetizer. you tell me if this was worth it.

unexpectedly great steakhouse!!. my husband and i are always travelling and stumbled across the republic while visiting friends in college station. our friends raved about the restaurant, so we had to try. man, were they right. we had amazing hand crafted cocktails, house brewed beer, and excellentfoodand service. after dinner, the live music in the whiskey lounge was spectacular. we were not expecting such a great steakhouse in little old college station. looking forward to our next visit.

close but no cigar. the atmosphere is good. the service is great. thefoodis bad. the steak was no better than choice. it came out skinny and grey. it was repulsive to look at and tasted worse. very disapointing. this could be a nice place if they cared enough to buy good cuts af meat and then cook it well.

if you want good drinks in a nice place then republic is fine. if you want to spend $300 on goodfoodthen go maddens.

my husband and i don't mind spending the money if you get thefoodand service and atmosphere we got here. incredible!! i could have sat there all night it was so relaxing. i had the scallop dish which was to die for and my husband had short ribs. yum!! i also recommend the chimichurri steak app and all their desserts are amazing. the service was also exactly what you would expect in that kind of establishment - superb! if you can afford it once in awhile do go here. it's a treat!!

the waiter was a little arrogant, but thefoodwas excellent. my husband's lobster and tomato bisque was excellent, although my french onion soup was far too salty. my husband had grilled salmon, and i had the roast chicken with mushroom risotto. the salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. my chicken was moist and flavorful. the risotto was delicious, with the flavor of the fresh mushrooms that wasn't hidden by other seasonings. we will definitely be back!!

amazingfoodand the best entertainment in the bv. went for dinner, stayed for the entertainment and was simply blown away. the singer cynthia williams and the guitar player francisco are the best in the brazos valley. not sure how they ended up in college station but they are the real thing. i had the filet, truffle fries and a great wedge salad. the bartenders know their stuff. you have to try the basil bluegrass. imagine a mojito made with basil. the service was impeccable. this is definitely a big city player in a small town. you will not find a better experience in college station. go for thefoodbut stay for the entertainment.

excellentfoodand service. took my girlfriend here for valentine's day. we started off with the crab cakes for our appetizer. they were crispy, full of crab meat, and served with a delicious avocado salsa. we really enjoyed the bread and butter. for the main course, i had a new york strip oscar style (topped with jumbo lump crab and hollandaise and served with asparagus) with the roasted potatoes. the steak was to die for!!!!! the best steak i have ever had, hands down! the potatoes were really disappointing. they were not even remotely crispy and the bacon lardons has a strange sweet flavor i couldn't figure out. the girlfriend had a filet with the macaroni and cheese. both were totally outstanding, the filet was super tender and the mac and cheese was complex, creamy, and of course quite cheesy. for dessert, i had the nutella ice cream sandwiches (delicious) and she had the marie antoinette which was amazing!!! this place is pricey but thefoodis well thought out and well executed.

overpriced overkill. the steaks were ok, good waitstaff, the owners are asses. arrogent and thefoodwas way overpriced for the area. this place belongs in rice village not college station.

excellentfoodand aaron is probably the best bartender in the brazos valley!
