best in rochester!!!. quite by chance, or by an amazing stroke of luck, my wife and i discovered rochester, new york's greatest restaurant jewel; the owl house. this unassuming chateau, which appeared to have been converted from a local residence, provided one of the best meals my wife and i have experienced in a long time. my wife follows a vegan diet which also encompasses numerous other dining constraints (gluten free, soy free, dairy free, etc), as my wife said, not only was the staff wonderfully attentive from the moment we entered, but she was able to eat a delicious meal which included an appetizer (tomato/pumpkin soup), entry (hummus and vegetables with gluten free bread) and even dessert (chocolate mousse). while not a vegan myself, i also greatly enjoyed the soup while opting for a tantalizing perfectly cooked sirloin steak sandwich with homemade fries and peanut butter & banana cake for dessert. in addition we enjoyed some wonderful wine and a large variety of fabulous beer (try the great lakes dortmunder gold). we were so impressed with the atmosphere and cuisine that we decided to return the next day for lunch to see if it was a fluke. i'm extremely pleased to report, it wasn't! only a hour from buffalo, we plan on making the owl house a welcome addition to our yearlong dining pleasure.
