cigarillos and baked nachos. after reading a couple of not so good reviews, i was hesitant to try, but after reading and hearing all the great reviews since it opened, i had to try it....and i am glad i did. the place was clean, the service was great, and the food was one of the best i have had in rochester. so very inventive and so tasty. can't wait to go back...

good, a few more entree options would be nice. enjoyed the food... they do an excellent job of "veganizing" everything on the menu. limited entree options, but that is somewhat expected given the small kitchen and large dining area(s).

disappointing. i've been several times, loved it the the first few times, then things began to go downhill: got our reservation on the wrong day; brought the wrong dish; and then last week was the final straw. i ordered a simple grilled cheese sandwich on their delicious gluten-free bread with a side of greens - what could go wrong. there was no dressing on the greens so they brought some when asked. there was almost no cheese on this sandwich which was burned and very small. they removed the cost from our bill but i have no motivation to come there any more. my husband's meal was overpriced and very small. what a bummer! you were doing so well. what happened?

so i finally made it to the owl house for dinner last night, and wow!! i have to say that i loved it! i conveniently made reservations online right from thier website and my friend i were seated immediately when we arrived. they have a vast selection of boutique beers and microbrews to wet any thirsty whistle. i opted for one of thier cocktails which was a unique and memorable experience. they had several cocktails on the menu that i had never heard of, and i'm sure in time i will try them all! the bartender is a craftsman and using complex and unique ingredients, is able to almost transport you within the very 1st sip of his concoctions. absinthe, homeade ginger syrup, bitters, cucumber...not what you get in your run if the mill cocktails! try one, you will not be let down! dinner was fresh and the service was warm and attentive! lots of options to satisfy vegans and meat eaters who crave a unique healthy meal bursting with flavors. i will be back, see ya there!

the owl house has a corner market in rochester when it comes to organic, gluten free, and vegan options. i find myself to be an extremely picky eater and i never have a problem finding something to order when i go there. my favorites include the cheese sticks, which are vegan. the diya cheese is so delicious, it's hard to believe it's vegan. i always order the black pepper and rosemary fries as well, although their ketchep isn't my favorite. my only complaint with this resturant lies with their condements, not very consistantly good. delicious beers available and their mixed drinks and great too. i recommend making a reservation for dinner service.

love.. stopped in without reservations on a saturday night while visiting the bf's parents in rochester. the host was very nice, told us it would be an hour but offered to make us a reservation at 8, so we grabbed a drink in the mean time, and were seated immediately at 8 when we returned. very cute place (tight seating, but not uncomfortably so) in a converted house. modern decor, with artwork available for purchase on the walls. we got the daiya cheesesticks for an appetizer, so gooey, cheesy and delicious. none of us are vegan, but daiya cheese is so good we pick it over real cheese regularly. my boyfriend had bbq seitan with homemade mashed potatoes and it was so smoky and juicy, absolutely mouthwatering. i had the viva verde! tacos with smoked tofu, a bit on the small side portion-wise but i didn't leave hungry, and the tofu was perfectly done, which is rare to find. his mother had a brie sandwich that she raved about and his stepfather had cornmeal encrusted catfish, that he was pleasantly surprised was cooked so well for a primarily vegan/vegetarian restaurant. both of them mentioned going there again without us even though neither one of them is vegetarian. they have a great beer selection, but your best bet for a drink is to go for the smoke monster. the absolutely most delicious bloody mary i've ever had. the secret must be the liquid smoke. worth the trip to rochester for this drink alone. can't wait to go back!

jared and i met his hs buddy for dinner at the owl house. it’s a casual spot in rochester that offers many vegetarian and gluten-free menu options.

best fries. recently just tried owl house and it was amazing. this reastaurant impressed both a meat eater and a vegetarian. that's not always easy to do! the rosemary and cracked pepper fries were so delicious. my saigon sandwich with smoked tofu was perfectly seasoned and the baguette really made this a standout. my spouse loved the big licky sandwich with tender bbq pork. can't wait to go back and try several other interesting options.

best in rochester!!!. quite by chance, or by an amazing stroke of luck, my wife and i discovered rochester, new york's greatest restaurant jewel; the owl house. this unassuming chateau, which appeared to have been converted from a local residence, provided one of the best meals my wife and i have experienced in a long time. my wife follows a vegan diet which also encompasses numerous other dining constraints (gluten free, soy free, dairy free, etc), as my wife said, not only was the staff wonderfully attentive from the moment we entered, but she was able to eat a delicious meal which included an appetizer (tomato/pumpkin soup), entry (hummus and vegetables with gluten free bread) and even dessert (chocolate mousse). while not a vegan myself, i also greatly enjoyed the soup while opting for a tantalizing perfectly cooked sirloin steak sandwich with homemade fries and peanut butter & banana cake for dessert. in addition we enjoyed some wonderful wine and a large variety of fabulous beer (try the great lakes dortmunder gold). we were so impressed with the atmosphere and cuisine that we decided to return the next day for lunch to see if it was a fluke. i'm extremely pleased to report, it wasn't! only a hour from buffalo, we plan on making the owl house a welcome addition to our yearlong dining pleasure.

what took me so long???. after atomic eggplant closed, it was a long time before the owl house appeared, but it was so worth the wait - saw the local reviews, and finally managed a visit after 9pm on a school night - and the food was fabulous! i had the olek's buffalo stance (best tempeh ever!) and my friend had the matty's moustache - and we started with the ginger-lime edamame... all our selections were excellent. my only complaints - they were out of the rosemary & cracked pepper fries, and we couldn't get more of the edamame sauce for our homemade chips - they should bottle the stuff..... and, the menu is printed in a small font - but i'll check it out on-line before my next visit, and i'm recommending the place to everyone. service was great, beer selection was interesting and plentiful.
on top of it all, not too expensive - what's not to love???
