the owl house

owl house has come a long way. i definitely had a few less than awesome experiences when they first opened, but they've really turned things around and now it's one of my go to restaurants. b.v.e. burger is one of my favorite standardmenuitems, and the buffalo cauliflower is a great starter with plenty to share. the food is consistently good- great flavor and good portions. lots of interesting specials and always veg/vegan friendly options. it's also a great place to go when you're dining with a mixed group who wouldn't be thrilled with only veg/vegan fare. they also have a wonderful selection of beers, wines, liquors, and specialty mixed drinks. great brunch as well. the bar area is small, but it's a great place to dine and the bartenders are usually very engaging. in general, the staff are very accommodating and friendly. definitely worth checking out. again, if you had a bad experience in past years (as i definitely did) it's worth giving the place another try.

quick info: opened in 2010, the owl house is located in rochester. it’s right around the corner from the bug jar, making it a great stop for anyone going to catch a show. a lot of themenucaters to various dietary choices/restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free). they serve local beer and also try to source local ingredients whenever possible. the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, tuesday through sunday (a special brunchmenuis available during the weekend). reservations can be made online.

this was my third visit to the owl house and we try to make sure we try different items on themenueach visit. the pub steak, mac n cheese, and califlower wings were excellent-we would highly recommend. we also ordered one of the specials, sausage tacos-they were very disappointing. my daughter ordered the veggie burger and was also a bit disappointed-too spicy and mushy for our taste.

trendy and tasty all at once!. yep,just a walk from the local organic co op is this small house style eatery thats cozy with the "in crowd" with art of the locals, and anyone can escape there for a meal. themenuincludes vegetarian and vegan as well as fair that i will eat with passion. a burger was great.it was good and i have gone back again.still good.order anything and see what specials are first. later, i had a raspberry pancake thing that was very good. trendy sometimes the bar is packing people in and makes it hard to get a table.i saw outside seating though.try it!

great place. wonderful food, and wonderful people. definitely a favorite of ours. themenuis different and exciting, and the beer is stellar. great options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. one of our favorites.

food > service. never been disappointed with a meal at the owl house - especially if diners are lactose-intolerant or adhere to vegan/vegetarian diets - themenudoes a great job providing tons of dietary variety. the service can be hit or miss though, depending on the day, time, and staff. overall one of my favorites in rochester.

disappointed. went to the owl house based on reviews we had heard from other people and we were very disappointed. we are vegan and were told they were vegan friendly, we even asked to see the separate veganmenuthey had. we ordered the vegan cheese sticks and the vegan flatbread; the vegan cheese stickers were good but after taking a bite from the "vegan" flatbread, we realized that there was actual cheese on the flatbread. we found this very upsetting because we had asked for the veganmenuand asked for it with daiya cheese on it, so we didn't understand how they could have gotten confused. we then ordered the lentil burger with chips and the seiten meatball sandwich with greens.when our food arrived, we were given the lentil burger with greens (instead of chips) and a completely different sandwich, i believe it was the buffalo seitan sandwich ( with chips, instead of greens). we took bites of both of our sandwiches, both were very dry and unsatisfying. we returned the buffalo sandwich to the kitchen and boxed up the lentil burger (not sure why because i don't plan on eating it) and asked for the check. regardless of them taking the flat bread and the buffalo seitan sandwich off the bill, it was still $23 which was upsetting for such an unsatisfying meal. needless to say we will not be recommending or returning to the owl house.

great all around!. this place was amazing! we were in town and the staff was so pleasant! the server kate was quick, explained vegan options and gave me a separate veganmenuto "make it easier for me"

*i ordered the mozarella sticks and my sister had a watermelon, tomato and cheese salad (i forget the name). the mozarella sticks were the most amazing thing, and even my non-vegan sister loved them.

*for the main course i had saigon with tofu and homemade chips and she had the pork pull. again, both were great! all of the staff was friendly and fun

*i also liked how you could see right into the kitchen and i saw a chef wipe down the board before and after preparing every piece of a meal.

*the best restaurant i have been to in a very long time. i can honestly say i will drive the 3 hours just for date nights with my boyfriend!

*they had such a greatmenuall of the desserts i saw were vegan. had i not been so stuffed i would have tried those as well.

ps the only downfall is they do not tipout the kitchen staff, so we tipped them as well =)

so i finally made it to the owl house for dinner last night, and wow!! i have to say that i loved it! i conveniently made reservations online right from thier website and my friend i were seated immediately when we arrived. they have a vast selection of boutique beers and microbrews to wet any thirsty whistle. i opted for one of thier cocktails which was a unique and memorable experience. they had several cocktails on themenuthat i had never heard of, and i'm sure in time i will try them all! the bartender is a craftsman and using complex and unique ingredients, is able to almost transport you within the very 1st sip of his concoctions. absinthe, homeade ginger syrup, bitters, cucumber...not what you get in your run if the mill cocktails! try one, you will not be let down! dinner was fresh and the service was warm and attentive! lots of options to satisfy vegans and meat eaters who crave a unique healthy meal bursting with flavors. i will be back, see ya there!

poor restaurant. i went to the owl house and it was not very pleasing because of long wait even when no one was there their fries are ok but the ketchup is funny tasting there is very little space barley any meat on themenutheir flatbread is very small and they have very little soda selection

jared and i met his hs buddy for dinner at the owl house. it’s a casual spot in rochester that offers many vegetarian and gluten-freemenuoptions.

what took me so long???. after atomic eggplant closed, it was a long time before the owl house appeared, but it was so worth the wait - saw the local reviews, and finally managed a visit after 9pm on a school night - and the food was fabulous! i had the olek's buffalo stance (best tempeh ever!) and my friend had the matty's moustache - and we started with the ginger-lime edamame... all our selections were excellent. my only complaints - they were out of the rosemary & cracked pepper fries, and we couldn't get more of the edamame sauce for our homemade chips - they should bottle the stuff..... and, themenuis printed in a small font - but i'll check it out on-line before my next visit, and i'm recommending the place to everyone. service was great, beer selection was interesting and plentiful.
on top of it all, not too expensive - what's not to love???
