the ocean terrace - the oyster box hotel

the oysterboxnever disappoints. from their top class service to their world class menu it’s a place you have to visit not forgetting the amazing views and free sweeties when you leave.

had late lunch with my cousin last week. had the valtellina pizza and a bottle of dg sweet rosé. the pizza was great, enjoyed it. if you’ve ever been to oysterboxyou know their views are 2nd to none. the ambiance is amazing. the staff was also really friendly. just the resident naughty monkeys were a problem😂😂 . otherwise , great place...a must go when in the area😍

a trip to durban is never complete without having the famous oysterboxcurry buffet. a bit on the pricey side but worth every penny. they have a variety of different curries in their buffet as well as a full a la carte menu. the atmosphere and decor makes you feel like royalty this is paired with great food and great service. this was not my first time to the oysterboxand definitely will not be my last.

i recommend the vermicelli pudding with ice cream, really delicious and to date on of my most favorite deserts ever. perfect combination to end off your meal.

definitely a must for anyone interested in fine dining.

now i have had many breakfast buffets at many hotels, but the experience at the terrace @ oysterboxhotel was just next level. i have never in my life seen such a large variety of options. on the first day there i went for the usual bacon and eggs so i didn't have much space for anything else. on day 2, i had everything except bacon and eggs. i had some roast beef, curried lamb kebab, breakfast sirloin, and some curry. they have a pancake and waffle station which my kids loved.

i've only managed to visit the oysterboxonce, and it was just for cocktails, but what an experience. it's completely colonial and posh - reminiscent of a bygone era. the view of the sea from the balcony was amazing.

very average experience!....service was substandard. we sat 20 minutes without any attendance!
we had sirloin steak and the duck confit....
the steak was presented as at a braai, the size of the plate and enough for2-3 people, while the duck confit was limited to a bland drumstick on veggies. the food is not befitting the ambiance, and one gets the impression that oysterboxhas stagnated.
we missed the sexy food and service offered by doppio zero around the corner!

amazing is an understatement! from the views to waiters to the food. my charming boyfriend took me to the ocean terrace for my birthday this year 2017 and we ate the indian buffet. it was absolutely delicious!!! the staff continously cane to check in us,clear up after us and top up our wine... it's things like this we look for in restaurants,basic good service. he also ordered me a special birthday and trust me when i say it was worth every cent...

ocean terrace @ oysterboxis a place to visit for sure

we were staying next door at the beverly hills for our honeymoon and came to the ocean terrace for dinner one night. we sat outside on the beautiful terrace, with the sounds of the waves crashing, it was a lovely atmosphere. we ordered pizza and salad which were both very good. we told the waitress that we just got married and the kitchen sent out a chocolate cake that said "congratulations" which was a lovely personal gesture. the drinks choice was good and the oysterboxis a lovely luxurious hotel.

we were looking for a pet friendly restuarant and we decided to give the oysterboxa try. it was our first time dinning here and it was a great experience. for mains we had the grilled prawns with pea dill rice, prawns were succulent and de shelled. we also had the baby peri peri chicken which was soft and saucy.

being pet friendly, the pets also had their own menu. my pup thoroughly enjoyed himself. it's also a great place for pet owners who want to take their pets out for a dinning experience

the grill room at the oysterboxwas my preferred choice for celebrating my mother's birthday, however the allure of the indian buffet swayed her senses and so we chose the terrace for the evening.

the entirety of the experience at the oysterboxis utterly sublime, from the impeccable service to the glorious views and the fabulous food.

the glamour of the decor and ambience is so worthwhile of such an indulgent and decadent night out.

wow... where can i start with the ocean terrace. situated in the gorgeous oysterboxhotel this restaurant has breathtaking views of the idyllic indian ocean and umhlanga coastline.

the food of course! well, you're spoilt for choice here. the buffet is excellent, the food is filled with spice and flavour. with lovely soft rotis and rice.

the service is good, as well. waiters were always attentive, and kept our glasses full. and to top everything off! a live band performed, which was absolutely lovely coupled with the beautiful views and seeing the dolphins in the crisp, blue ocean.

well, there's not much to complain or to brag about. i don't know about you but, this restaurant lacks something, i can't tell but it's definitely missing something...

the oysterboxoozes extravagance. it's absolutely breath taking. we arrived here on a monday morning and ordered the tea for 2! a beautiful selection of 'high tea' choices. it was filled with beautiful sandwiches, cupcakes, pastries, scones and macaroons. the view from the terrace is gorgeous, service is so on point and quality is superb! just watch out for the monkeys, one stole a cupcake off the table of which the staff chased away, kept a look out and replaced within seconds and apologized. will be back again when back in durban.

my husband and i booked a table at the oysterboxas soon as we knew we were going down to umhlanga. we were excited to finally get to try it out and had accepted that this treat wouldn't be budget.

we were sadly left a bit disappointed with the overall experience. the location is beautiful and we were lucky with the weather. our waiter was really friendly. we started with oysters and they were great. but it kind of ended there. my husband had the confit duck cassoulet, which seemed pretty average. i ordered fish and chips, expecting an out of this world classic at r175. the fish itself wasn't bad, although i suspect fried a bit too long as the batter was dark and the fish a little dry. the chips were a terrible disappointment. i was expecting beautifully fresh chunky hand-cut chips, but instead received stale and dry and tasted like shop bought frozen chips. at that price i am really expecting a quality meal.

not sure if i'd return for a meal, but maybe a drink overlooking the lighthouse. it was not fine dining.
