overhyped & overpriced. living in boulder, i've been to the med multiple times--it seems to be therestaurantof choice for birthdays with its many large tables. i've had some good dishes, but the general inconsistency, ridiculous waits of 1-2 hours, costs vs. quality and acoustics and terrible 80's music keep this from being arestaurantof choice.

tapas at happy hour are the best bet. although they are affordable at first glance, you'll quickly rack up the cost if you're sharing or hungry. they have a good wine list and sangria. dinner is a disappointment other than the lamb shank, which is really delicious and juicy.

a better dinner bet is to walk across the street to brasserie ten ten.

the med has an enchanting location in the centre of boulder, and one genuinely feels transported to marbella on the costa del sol when dining on the fresco balcony.

the only unfortunate things is that the tapas bars in spain do tapas rather better. and for arestaurantrated over 4, i was expecting higher quality. we had a range of dishes, each one we were expecting to finally find the wow factor, however we (or the restaurant) failed.

the mussels were too soft and stuck to the shell. i'm no chef, but i believe this is a sign of being well overdone. the charcuterie was a merge portion of ham and salami that could be bought from any mid range supermarket. the calamari was tough and lacked flavor, and the other dish was so unmemorable i forget what it was, despite having a photo.

go for drinks and lap up the wonderful atmosphere, however if you're hungry you'll probably need to nip into a drive-thru on your way home

a typical scam. thisrestaurantserves people who have travelled the world, but the world has never travelled through them. the food is incredibly disgusting. a version of epcot center in the middle east. a complete lack of respect for the incredibly rich food of the mediterranean.
the place smells, like "i can't believe it's not reggiano and butter" and the food is pathetic to the point of insult, yet, packed with the "people who know their map".

mediterranean is an excellentrestaurantin downtown boulder. we ate there on thursday evening and it was packed. the space is fairly modern and quite nice yet casual. our server, bryant, was wonderful. the food was excellent. when they named the restaurant, they meant it - spanish, italian, greek - it's all there and well executed. our table shared some tapas and then ordered main courses. we had a bottle of a very nice rioja, but when we ordered a second bottle, they were out of it. however, our server recommended an appropriate replacement at the same price that was also excellent. there was one problem. my hangar steak was supposed to be medium-rare, but it came out medium-well. when the waiter asked, i told him that my steak was not done properly. they not only replaced it with a properly cooked steak, they took the main course off of my bill. that is the kind of response i expect from a fine restaurant.

disappointing. the second most popularrestaurantin colorado according to urbanspoon- what?? as a newbie to colorado, i hope it gets better. suffice to say this was disappointing.

i ordered baked polenta with blue cheese and honey as an appetizer, and yellowfin tuna (medium rare) with horseradish crust for entree. my dining partner - a shrimp tapas to start and steak (medium rare) from the grill menu with vegetables and mash.

both tuna and steak were cooked perfectly. and the polenta was an interesting flavor blend. otherwise, the experience was underwhelming. the entree's were not very warm, the vegetables with the steak were unappealing pieces of steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and the flavors of the tuna just did not 'pop'.

they had an extensive wine list which looked interesting, but given my partner was drinking beer i had to stick to the wine by the glass.

service: the appetizers came out too soon (we had only just started our aperitif drinks) which is irritating but something you can forgive. otherwise the service was satisfactory,

i won't be rushing back to the med. what a shame as many of the menu descriptions sounded great... despite the iffy blend of spanish, greek, italian, and french. plus that long wine list did interest me.

a sad story. once upon a time there was arestaurantthat everybody called the med. it had a well deserved reputation for putting the happy in happy hour, with tasty tapas and reasonably priced drinks. sure, the noise level was often oppressive and the service had that silly inconsistency we come to expect from service in boulder, but all in all, it was a great place to sit with friends after work, removing the remnants of the day's toil from one's soul with food, drink and good company. then one day a fancy hotel opened up the block and the med just stopped trying. since the tourists/business people and cu parents didn't seem to care if the food was bland, poorly prepared and slow to arrive, why should the med care?
i have been to the med twice this summer and i will not go back. the food was never sensational, but now it is just plain terrible. this last time the falafel was soggy, cold and bland. (side note: if someone can direct me to some decent falafel in boulder county, please let me know! and don't say falafel king because my friends, the king is dead! but i digress...) we had lamb kabobs -- lamb was ice cold and nearly raw (supposed to be med rare); sent it back, it was returned to the table well done grey and strangely enough, still ice cold. flatbread was stale. paella was a gummy, overcooked mess.
as we left, throngs of people waited on the street outside for a table. i wanted to warn them, but my companion restrained me from doing so. all in all, a very sad story.

overrated. overpriced.. i'm shocked to see thisrestaurantrated so high. my wife and i went there and left very disappointed. for starters, it's a pretentious place that tries to be something it isn't. the food is mediocre at best, but the prices are more fitting for a fine dining establishment. and how they get away with calling the food mediterranean is utterly beyond me. i can't imagine less authentic food. i will never go back.
