the majestic

what a good meal. we came in late, for us, the place was about 1/2 full. great music selection even better volume. just right. the bartender and waitress, lorainna! were super helpful with bourbon. i had a jefferson flight. awesome. dinner was light, small bites. we had brussels, beet salad, deviled eggs and frites. all were excellent but not even close to the service! lorainna was awesome. if you don’t go for thefoodgo see lorainna.

thefoodand menu variety were acceptable, the problem was our waiter. he was impatient and very obtuse with us. he gave off the impression that we were keeping him from a more important matter. this resulted in a very unpleasant atmosphere. the straw that broke the camel's back was when he saw it as his prerogative to fill in the customer comment card with 5s for service and overall experience before giving it to us. i have never seen that done before and i hope i never will. i did leave a tip but he by no means earned or deserved it. i highly doubt i will return but if i do i will ask for a different waiter if he is serving me.

the potroast was moist, flavorful and not too fatty. i chose to leave the horseradish cream off my sandwich and everything still worked out extremely well with each other. the only thing about this meal that lacked were the pommes frites - they were not fried enough, but i didn't need to be eating all that you see below so i wasn't too bummed about it.  the bartender was attentive without being overwhelming and thefoodwas quick and delicious. we were in and out in about 40 minutes which is perfect if you only have an hour for lunch. i asked about the veggie sandwich, and the bartender says he normally turns up his nose at veggie sandwiches, but the combo of roasted veggies and the aioli gets him.  would i come back? yes, now that i know theirfoodis good, i will venture off their special lunch menu to their normal menu - duck confit salad anyone?

we truly enjoyed a fabulous dining experience at the majestic! we were walk in's for an early dinner and we chose the 3 course regal dinner. service was far better that we have experienced in other king street dining establishments. starting with a perfect she crab soup and a table side prepared caesar. followed by meat loaf (always a favorite and was very happy with the flavor and moist texture). the seafoodstew was generous and filled with a rich broth filled with a tremendous variety of tender delicacies. we finished with coconut cake and peach cobbler. both were excellent. will be back soon to revel in the majesty of the majestic!!!

overall, our meal at the majestic was a charming delight, filled with a nice variety of delicious, homestylefoodthat really hit our collective spot. with all due respect to my mom, if chef overmiller ever offers lessons, i may be signing her up. :)

greatfoodbad waiter. this was our second time eating at this establishment. we had a wonderful meal on the first visit--and good service, as well. on our second visit we had, by far, bar none, the 100% absolute worst service i have ever had at any restaurant--ever!!! our waiter was rude pass the point of misunderstanding or poor training. we had trouble getting him to take our drink order--25 minutes passed before the first drink order was even taken--then the waiter only took drink orders for half the table. we were never offered another beverage after that---very strange. the entrees were brought to the table at different times for several members of our party. the waiter rolled his eyes and argued with our requests at every turn. it was a struggle with this gent all night--not very relaxing or fun to say the least. the only time there was any sense of urgency was after the desserts came--then we felt rushed. so much can be forgiven if the server has a pleasant attitude. it is too bad as thefoodwas good--very good on both visits. many of the supporting staff were quite nice and helpful. bottom line--never again--not at these prices--not with so many other choices in town. many places have goodfoodand consistently good service. why put yourself through this? get it together majestic!

if you opt for the first seatiing (5:30) be sure not to arrive so much as 5 minutes early - even if you have reservations - since you will not be allowed to sit and wait. since all the seats in the small bar are usually taken, this will be an unpleasant experience with a small child im tow. as previous reviewers have noted the problem here is usually the service. common sense does not always reign. thefoodis almost always uniformly good. there is an occasional misfire but they are rare. things to go for are the fried oysters and the steak. chicken liver appetizers are amazing - but not for everyone. there is usually a vegetarian option and when there isn't one on the menu the kitchen is accomodaring looking back at my opentable.com account this was my 10th visit, so this is not a case of pique as with previous visits here, any problem you may have is likely to involve poor service. if this is not a concern for you, then i recommend majestic with reservations.

the highlight of our trip to the dc area! bestfoodand service of the whole visit

this is the type of comfortfoodthat you wish would find its way to your neighborhood. the dishes seem effortless in the warmth that they bring to your table, but the scene from the open kitchen makes it clear that they are anything but. amish chicken with a side of creamy house made fettuccine was hearty and flavorful drawing out the natural richness of the dark meat. a special of veal osso bucco was fragrant in an herbed gravy set off in both color and flavor by the saffron risotto nestled below.

big disappointment. as a couple who eats out 6 nights a week in o.t., we won't be back, and don't recommend it. the staff was unpleasant and unfriendly. thefoodwas mediocre.

greatfoodand great service. we are new in town so are trying a lot of things out. we split a couple dishes and found them to be very nice. started with french onion soup, which was lighter than what one would expect, they use mushroom stock instead of beef stock and serve it with crostini layered with cheese instead of the normal blob of gruyere you would expect. followed up with a manicotti which had a nice sauce sprinkled with golden raisins. we split it and i can't imagine eating the whole thing. overall nice dishes and server was very knowledgeable and attentive. thumbs up!!
