went to the larder on a saturday morning for brunch. the staff are very attentive and friendly; filling up water glasses and asking if we needed more coffee. themenuis fairly light on veggie options but they were more than willing to swap the bacon for avocado, which was great! the food tasted incredibly fresh and prepared to a very high standard. they know what they're doing! i'd like to see some smoothies on themenuand a few more veggie friendly options but i'll definitely be back again soon!

amazing food, love the staff, and its situated in a great location (especially if you're wanted to visit weta afterwards. they have a really comprehensivemenuand do breakfast and lunch. we had scrambled eggs with bacon, its served with tomatoes and ciabatta and was so tasty. if its busy then the noise volume can be a bit much and you'll probably have to wait for a table

came here for a lunch break on a friday afternoon. the cabinet had limited gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options but possible just due to the time of day.

adam ordered eggs benedict with salmon and we both shared a side of fries. i also had an iced coffee, which was fully soy with honey that was delish. the food came out quickly and was really good according to adam - the chips were very good! hand cut and all.

big downer - they don't specify allergens, vegan or vegetarian options on themenuwhich always makes me feel like the annoying customer when i have to ask about substitutions.

otherwise would return.

would go back for to try more things.

update:
came back for dinner and the service and food was impeccable, never felt out of place asking for gluten free or pescatarian or dairy free - everyone at the table felt special and it was awesome.

it was a very coolmenuwith unusual options that were all great. all meals were generous portions. the champagne battered oysters were amazing, as well as the elk fillet and blue cod. the dessertmenuwas especially unusual- we had liquorice parfait, sea urchin ice cream and duck egg soufflé. overall a great night and friendly service, although a reasonable wait for food.

boy does miramar have a hidden gem or what? brunch on a sunday morning with good coffee (4/5) and a fresh appealingmenu(not run-of-the-mill). cousin had the watermelon salad which was refreshingly lovely but be warned that it is 95% watermelon (what else did i expect?); and i had the fruit crepes which were light and healthy like waitress said. there was a soft cookie crumble in the crepes which i wasn't overly fond of but perhaps i had overdosed on their salted caramel slice. all in all, i want to come back for more as i hear they do game for dinner.
oh and the waitress was helpful and friendly: bonus.

7/11/15: very highly recommended.
sunday brunch - 10am and larder is almost full. the open fire is going but so warm inside we decide to sit outside.

themenuwas easily decided upon - a trim cap, flat white, croque madame and my order kidneys and bacon - asking whether the sourdough toast could be replaced by hash browns - no problem at all. i (we once walked out of a cbd restaurant when the cook refused to alter the dish, replacing one sort of mash with another that was also on themenu- because it would "destroy the integrity of the dish" - yeah right! - given that few dishes in restaurants have good integrity to start with this seems overly precious).

i think it could be that i've eaten/drunk in too many b grade joints recently, but when the kidneys and bacon with hash browns were delivered to my upper gi tract, i was taken aback - "i've been missing real food" i said "and now i remember what it's like."

perfectly cooked lamb's kidneys with bacon sitting atop four fat and tender hash browns. all coated in a creamy, brown-green speckled, herb-salty blanket that ran gently through the whole. each mouthful was perfect pleasure. honestly it was so good it surprised me.

the croque madame was excellent - just as it should be, and the coffee was excellent both in preparation and taste. the larder made for a lovely morning.

very highly recommended.

the larder has got to be one of the best cafes in wellington. the food here is glorious! on my latest visit here i ordered the lamb salad which was fabulous. the lamb was cooked perfectly and the touch of mint was beautiful. the lettuce and cucumber were very fresh. i would have loved more feta though. themenuhere is quite extensive and it's always an inner battle deciding whether to go savoury or sweet. the crepes here are the best i have ever had. the service here is good. i have come here in the past when the service was a bit up and down but it has definitely improved. eastern suburb folk sure have it lucky! i seem to be in this area every weekend. come on karori, could we please just have one decent cafe?

went here friday 9th jan for work lunch. on arrival were not greeted and had to walk up to barista to enquiry about available tables, even though there were plenty of staff behind the counter. once table was sorted, after 5 minutes or so we were seated.
after being seated for 10 minutes we had to ask for menus. 3 menus were provided eventhough we were a table of 8. the items on themenulooked super tasty, especially the snapper fillet! we had the zomato app open looking at the photos of the dish when another waiter walked past, saw us looking at the snapper pictures and they advised they had run out of the snapper, shame we were not told about this or any specials at the time the menus were provided with 4/8 people wanting this dish.
once the orders were taken a nice gesture was the complimentary amazing piece of fresh bread and butter per person.
the 45 minute wait for the meals was a but dissapointing. on our table we had 4 steaks and 4 parpapadelle pastas. the steaks were cooked well although quite a bit of fat and the pasta was well cooked with delishish lamb meat balls! our table also ordered a side each of the hand cut chips. the chips were the standout. they were thick, crispy on the outside with a fluffy inside! the 2 types of dipping sauces were a nice touch.
overall an average experience, maybe too many tables for such a small place....

recently had wellington on a plate fixedmenuwith matched wines on first visit to this restaurant.
additional first taster course of cauliflower soap was nice but cold, needed heating.
next course of chicory needed more dressing being rather bland.
main course of beef cheek was very succulent; parsnip puree was very smooth and tasty; grilled kale was miniscule portion.
cheese course of aged gouda and toasted fruit bread was dry and disappointed, needed an accompaniment other than the jelly which added little taste.
pear tart tartin disappointed as one who prefers a 'cake' like base rather than a batter; suggest pear could have benefitted from being sliced rather than whole, needed jus; accompanying gelato was miniscule portion.
not convinced by some of wine matches particularly the chardonay, sauv. blanc and pinot gris.
ambience overall ok, chairs not very comfortable; background noise high when restaurant full due hard surfaces; service generally attentive. could have asked for feedback upon paying bill if genuinely interested in patrons experience. cost around $195 overall $65 each fixed menu; $5 per half glass matched wines plus coffee/tea.
nice to have proper large napkins but why not go to tablecloths as well.
overall, pleasant enough but would not necessarily rush back unless good reason to.

nice enough food but food portions are too small for the price. i know it's a happening place around here and i guess all those film execs can afford those price levels but we came for lunch. i had the pea and prawn soup. very flat bowl literally 2 ladles of soup and one half slice of bread for $17, fellow diner had the squid with salad for $18, consisted of a few pieces of squid with a handful of salad. meatballs with pasta was ok for $20 i guess about the right food portion to price charged. needless to say we had to get subway afterwards to fill ourselves up.

maybe if they split theirmenuup into subsections and put the entree sized portions under a heading 'entrees' and the main courses under 'main courses' people might not be so startled when they get their food.

we came to the larder for a nice lunch on a very miserable day. we got the perfect seat right by the fire place, very delightful. we shared a very nice savory muffin between us, just to get our appetites started. our meals were the croque madame and the goats cheese souffle. i was a little disappointed in the souffle, but i think that was a badmenuchoice on my part. cannot fault much at this place and will surely be back to enjoy dinner here asap. really want to try the duck and something off your dessert menu!

the larder is a welcome addition to the growing cafe scene in the eastern suburbs, with elegant, chic decor. being able to sit outside on a sunny day with pretty flower arrangements on the tables was a bonus. themenuand modest selection of counter food (sandwiches and appealing pastries) are a tad pricey, but my coffee (supreme) was well made. the overall service was efficient and pleasant. i would be keen to dine here again, perhaps sampling their eveningmenunext time.
