relaxed atmosphere, good selection of beer, and excellent food. the "chupacabra" burger is outstanding.

the food's tasty (with enormous portions)- the 'romantic' label is questionable though?
one of the better bars on 6th, though the staff can sometimes be paaainfully hipster and unattentive.

in addition to items like a jalapeno texas hot-link dipped in orange pancake batter and deep-fried as their take on a corn dog, they had one item that was too intriguing to not order: jicima and cabbage slaw with cap’n crunch and couscous crusted fried chicken with green chile ranch dressing on top all served in a bacon waffle cone. this was easy to hold, easy to eat and man, was it good. sweet, savoury with a nice bite from the slaw and heat from the green chile ranch.

great bar. primarily this is a bar, and in publius' opinion, it is a great bar. certainly with any bar timing can have a lot to do with the experience; who's the bartender when you go, what day of the week, how drunk you are when you get there along with numerous other factors. but every time publius has gone he has liked it. this place has an authentic feel. it's old, a little beat up (some cracks in the nylon bar stool tops). it has two real, long bars. a diverse group of customers; musicians, students, nerds, hipsters, rednecks. even so, this place speaks to all comers. it's dark and grainy like someone turned up the iso or film speed on your corneas. nice selection of beers. velvet topless art on the walls, a burlesque feel. this place is walking a line that done wrong could be big cheese, but guess what, this place got it right. a good bar for anywhere, a great bar for 6th street where there are a lot of college kid / amateur hour options.

this place is not your usual bar. it has a feel of a past nostalgia that gives this place a view of history. its a true experience of sixth street. the food is excellent and the staff is very attentive. they do have happy hour specials, but the true experience is felt during the evening. probably not best to bring kids. they serve up some local brews like fireman's #4. if you have never been here, check it out now!

first of all this is in no way a dive bar. whoever coined as such has no idea what a dive bar is. second the service if not rude is totally indifferent they could care less. third the chicken brie sandwich was awesome although very greasy. i was amazed with how friendly people are in austin, but do not expect that friendliness at the jackalope. the sandwich was not good enough to make up for the indifferent/slightly rude service.

uhhhh-- not too great. the pizza was kind of old and at almost 4 bucks a slice, the portions were on the skimpy side and honestly roppolo's is better and only a block or so down the street. cheap drinks though if you wanna down a few at the bar.

best place in austin. the jackalope definitely one awesome bar, with amazing food. the regular kitchen has great bar food, the best burgers around. the pizza place in the front makes a fine thin crust pizza with a fantastic sauce and a some really great and unusual toppings ( pulled pork, blue cheese and bacon, and a chicken caesar salad pie are some i have tried). this place is a far cry from the mostly crappy pizza in austin. the bar scene at the jackalope doesn't neatly fit into a single category as most downtown bars do - all sorts of people rub shoulders here. it can get really busy at times, but there are always places to sit, and the drinks are strong and cheap. the staff and owner are really cool and friendly. me and the girls favorite spot to go out!

truly one of the best!. very few people know that in back of jackalope is a box of a kitchen that serves the best burgers ever. and not just the best burgers, but the best onion rings, fried pickles, and, well, just about everything i've ever tasted there is the best. and i know it sounds highly unlikely, but you just have to try it yourself. i highly recommend the chipotle burger. they always have a rotating 'specials' menu as well that is worth trying. and wednesdays are two for one burgers, all day!
