the grill jichana - elangeni & maharani

this restaurant is lovely, situated in elangeni hotel the decor was stylish and modern. upon arrival we were served complimentary sherry which was quite nice. my partner and i both had steaks which was prepared just the way we ordered it and was absolutely delicious. to end we have the chocolate ball dessert which was amazing especially when the waiter poured the chocolatesauceover it.
great service, would recommend for a special occasion.

excellent dining experience. we had the lamb shank which was perfectly cooked. the other meal was a surf 'n turf 300g rump and 4 medium sized prawns enjoyed with the best peppersaucei have had yet. the steak was a good one and was also perfectly cooked. the chocolate fondant was exceptional and i looked jealously over my ice cream and chocolatesauceat it. service was fantastic. the price including the bottle of merlot was r750 which while being on the high side was worth it. our second visit here did not disappoint.

complementary sherry on arrival. beautiful restaurant, romantic setting, food was spectacular, had the roast duck and fillet with mushroomsauceand truffle savings as mains. meals where prepared as requested medium well. dessert was amazing, left me wanting more.

let me start by saying my husband and i are dessert freaks 😁. so what made us choose the grill jichana was most definitely the chocolate bomb dessert. we received good service and our waiter was very friendly and, although a bit confused with us ordering dessert first and then a meal, very efficient and helpful. to me the ambience was very upscale but felt a tad bit too "dark" for my personal taste.
no doubt we ordered the chocolate ball dessert and it was just fantastic. the theatre about it puts it in a league of its own for sure. watching the chocolate melt away under the warm chocolatesauceis enough to get you licking your lips. the berries and ice cream balances the dish out a bit as well so it doesn't come across too sweet, although i would suggest a few more fresh berries. as our meal we had burgers and the patty was of a good quality and you could taste the love that only comes with home made burger patties and it paid off. had a lot of flavour.
i would recommend this establishment to couples going out for a romantic meal ie anniversary dinner or the like. you and your partner will be very well looked after and leave having been well fed and happy 🙂

this place is amazing! i really enjoyed myself. we had the cheese board as a starter which was excellent i had the lamb shank and my other half had a mushroomsaucefillet steak which was a 10/10
we had the chocolate ball desert which was mouth watering but left us with a sugar high. the service is great and the food is fantastic! deff a must try

steaks to die for and a gorgeous trendy setting ensures this is the place to go. an absolute must is the chocolate bomb dessert, one is presented with a perfect chocolate ball and divine hotsauceis poured on top of it

hungry from johannesburg i rushed straight into this quiet restaurant. greeted at the door with smiles and cherry i know i made the right choice. our waitress was impeccable someone straight out of a movie reciting the specials of the day in the most dramatic and delightful manner. that was the highlight of the evening. i ordered my starter a prawn and avo salad. it was fresh. there was no taste.

for the main meal i ordered a lamb shank. it was horrible. it tasted like they poured a big bottle of tobascosauceover it after cooking. the mash and veggies the meat everything was drenched in this sauce. it was all you could taste.
if i go back. it would be for the service.

i am very impressed with this restaurant in the sense that they mostly serve free range meat and chicken.  the decor is not too my liking as it is way too dark and always very icy cold.  the waiters are extremely, extremely friendly and it comes to them very naturally so they obviously like what they do.  the service is very good.  my husband had the lamb ribs which he said was very tasty.  i had the free range rump and it was done as i asked and the peppersaucewas also very nice.  for desert we always take the ‘chocolate bomb’ which is i think white chocolate mousse in a chocolate ball, then they pour on hot chocolatesauceand the whole thing just melts.   so i will definitely visit this restaurant again.
the only thing that annoyed me is that they don’t allow kids under 10.  even after reading this we still took a chance and the lady very politely explained to us that if we our child behaves and not be a nuisance he could join us.  i wondered if they asked the group of very loud drunken men a few tables from us the same thing? as my child was as quiet as a mouse while this table was being noisy.  just to show you, not all kids run around and not all adults are well behaved.
