the george

so.. the george & dragonbar& grill is located at lighthouse mall, umhlanga and in my mind the george has always been the 'billies' of umhlanga (in johannesburg terms): great vibe, lots of atmosphere and cold beers. 

i have actually always loved frequenting it with its pub fare and snack baskets. however, recently (5 november to be exact) i received what tops my list of over 800 restaurants for the most blatantly rude and shocking service from a barman there called bjorn this year. despite several times making eye contact with us, and us waiting for a very lengthy period of time..  he was convinced that by ignoring our girls table, we would evaporate into fresh air. thankfully, our entire group of girls had an excellent sense of humor about it all and found some better service on the other side of the bar. i actually made a point of giving the barman who did finally serve us with a smile, a r100 tip.

*recommendation: hope and pray that you don't get served by bjorn - it may be a long wait.

so due to the christmas holiday season we have traveled to be with family and friends being in durban is not all dull and gloom. . . with the crazy weather a cooling down session in durbans upmarket area is required we decided to meet for drinks at the gerorge which in all essence is a footballbarby day and a upmarket party place at night the streets are filled with people trying to get a drink so the other problem is trying to get a drink or a waiters attention is really difficult and if you don't tip them high forget about them seeing to you again sadly you have to be a regular in order to feel welcome and to get attended too you have to stand there for hours for someone to even recognize you part two of the difficulty is to try and get a seat we stood all the way through our 2 drinks each and no one gets up for a lady or disable person a once in a lifetime experience never to go back

they offer a wide selection of beers on tap as well as savanna on tap. found the staff behind thebarto be quick and efficient. it gets extremely busy but has a great vibe!

always busy with a great vibe throughout the week.barstaff are fast and efficient. definitely a good place to grab drinks with a group of friends.
