the foodbarn

this place is incredible! my boyfriend and i have been to noordhoek a few times but had never tried the foodbarn. we had dinner there spontaneously on our first night for our december holiday and i didn't know what to expect. my taste buds were blown! our waiter was an exceptionally friendly gentleman who made several recommendations regarding wine and food. i advise that you listen to your waiter because they definitely know what is best!
to start we had steak tartare, mains were the karoo lamb and sirloin, followed by the poached apricot dessert. our meal was accompanied by a hartenberg merlot 2012. delicious!!
i wish i could relieve the entire evening. my boyfriend and i shared the mains and the only thing that i would change would be to both order the karoo lamb. it is delicious. the gorgonzola creamy sauce is not too strong for those of you who fear gorgonzola. i highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting cape town. it is worth the drive!

beautifully situated in the heart of noordehook. we had a delicious breakfast, i would definitely recommend the eggs benedict.
great vibe with people coming in and out of the deli - which has freshly baked breads, pies and cute little somethings to buy.
very chilled and relaxing atmosphere.

wow, wow, wow! this place is an absolute gem! it is set in the gorgeous region of noordhoek, about 1 hours drive from ct's city centre. the food is out of this world and the service is first class. the decor and setting are unassuming but don't let that fool you, they are churning out some very tasty and glamourous cuisine that would suit a fine dining establishment. i cannot say enough good things about this place, if you have the time, you have to take a trip down to noordhoek, and spend some time in the are if you can, it is absolutely gorgeous and you can drive back to the city centre along the scenic chapmans peak. the restaurant is a little pricey but totally worth every cent!

being slightly outside of town and lacking any formal "top 10" ranking, you'd be forgiven for thinking the foodbarn was just a casual restaurant in noordhoek. you'd also be greatly mistaken, as the chef here also used to be the chef at la colombe when it was ranked in the top 50 restaurants in the world. the food here is absolutely ridiculously delicious, packed full of flavour and old school french technique. i had a really hard time choosing what to eat which is always a good sign. to start i had the ravioli with fresh peas and asparagus, served with a buttery truffle sauce, very elegant and light but every mouthful was a treat to be savoured. for mains i had the fresh tuna served on bean and porcini mushroom puree which was delicious. i also tried the risotto of celeriac with prawns which in my opinion was the dish of the day. for dessert we had the marshmallow and fruit, and the chocolate dessert which were excellent.
the friendly waitrons were all very clued up on every item on the menu and were happy to cater to particular dietary needs. excellent wine list with many options to go with the brilliant food. i can't recommend the foodbarn highly enough.

had lunch here today with a friend. had the risotto, it was outstanding! she had the beef which was beautiful and the parsnip purée was perfect. couldn't fault it at all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommended!!!

i fell in love with the foodbarn many years ago when my then boyfriend took me there to celebrate my birthday. i had their lamb cutlets and parmesan mashed potatoes for mains and was hooked. lol - i just say chops and mash and my now hubby just shakes his head. after all it is a fine dining experience 😉 the service is impeccable, the food is amazing and the winelist boasts a couple of really good local wines. they also have great winter specials which is fantastic and they have a wonderful deli too! this place is always worth the drive time and time again.

myself and my boyfriend went to the foodbarn for lunch the other day, and had a fantastic lunch. the service could have been slightly better, but the food made up for it.

starters: i had the ostrich tartare starter, which was absolutely flawless, and the presentation was magnificent, as always. my boyfriend had the goats cheese fritter, which was as delicious as it was beautiful!

mains: this was the only disappointing part of the meal. both myself and my boyfriend had the karoo roasted lamb rack, and we were both rather disappointed. the lamb itself was cooked well, but had none of its own flavor, and the garlic jus had barely a hint of garlic. the citrus crumbs were also unnoticeable, if at all present. not the highlight we were hoping for.

desserts: i ordered the strawberry and rhubarb dessert, and was exceptionally happy with it, that is, until i tasted my boyfriend's dessert. he had the pumpkin pie with granola, and it tasted even better than it looked! we landed up swapping puddings halfway through, so that i would stop staring at my boyfriend's bowl so longingly. absolutely divine!

all in all, an amazing lunch, but i definitely won't be ordering the lamb rack main again! here's to ostrich tartare and pumpkin pie!

hosting was impeccable. waitrons and hosts were friendly and knowledgable. the food was beautifully prepared and perfectly seasoned also presentation was appetizing. house wine is delicious.

had a stunning lunch at the foodbarn yesterday, it's a long time favourite restaurant and didn't disappoint. we had the winter special of 50% off the a la carte menu, giving us superb dining at a very affordable price. we are very lucky to have this amazing venue close by, especially with such wonderful food and ambience.

we had the most amazing wine pairing lunch here that lasted about 5 hours. the food was outstanding and got me to eat frogs legs for the first time (very good). the food was paired with wines from groot constantia and we have had the winemaker personally presenting the wines with each dish together with chef dangereux explaining each of his dishes. what a treat!

one of the best meals i have ever had. the food is impeccably prepared, the service amazing. each course prepared in the tradition of fine dining, but with the kind of atmosphere where you don't feel uncomfortable eating it off the bone. a realm treat for food lovers. i couldn't recommend it any more highly. the 50% off winter special doesn't hurt too.

probably one of the best fine dining restaurants i have ever eaten at. highly recommend the ravioli starter, and the pork belly for a main. totally blown away, delicious food and great service. best way to have spent our anniversary. finished off our evening with the belgian chocolate terrine.

the food here is absolutely fantastic! make sure to make a booking as it can get very busy. we had the three courses with wine pairing which is such great value for money. each course was hearty and beautifully presented. the wine was also fantastic and went well with the food! we also had an apple and cinnamon sorbet which was delicious. you won't leave here hungry.

franck is truly quite amazing, cooks with passion, has the flair and believes in sustainability, i would recommend to anyone who has not been to make this a must, expect good doses of butter and true to his words life is to short for bad wine. i am already looking forward to my next visit.
