the flying saucer draught emporium

pretty cool place to go. it was a bit intimidating the first couple times i went. it seemed like everybody, staff and customers, knew each other. i felt like an outsider. i guess i continued to go back because i thought the "cheers" like atmosphere was a good thing. sure enough, only after a few visits servers were calling me by name and i had met some interesting bar customers. overall it's a nice place to grab a fewbeersafter work. the selection of beer is great, the servers are very friendly, most are in college and intelligent, and while they wear a mini skirt it is paired with a chill saucer logo t-shirt.... far from skanky. and considering it is a bar, the food is ok too- but honestly who goes to a bar to get amazing food.

great beer collection, and cool place to hangout! feels lively. you can have your plate of honor hung up for every 200-250beersyou drink. a place where our profs reward our lab cleaning efforts ;)

this is a cool place! we stopped in here after going to another store in the same shopping center. my buddy dave and i popped in here for a pint while his wife went to another store.

the place has a great design with saucers all over the ceiling. each has a name however i didn't bother to ask about them. we ordered our drinks and and took a look around. the ceiling and and is very dark inside and there are several large mirrors on the walls. also if you go to the back and and around the corner there's a large back dining area. the first thing that came to mind was "this would a great place for a mob hit! i need to sit back here!".

while we were enjoying ourbeersi took a look over the menu. there's a lot of cool looking dishes on here, and some i would say are eclectic. i wish we could have stayed to eat, definitely next time.

last but not least, service was great. i didn't catch our bartenders name but she was super friendly and helpful and definitely a credit to the place. kudos!

beer = good. food = meh. went there for the first time last saturday. while the beer menu is impressive, being out of a couple ofbeersi wanted to try doesn't help. and our waitress, while cute and helpful, was new, so she needed our help in getting the rightbeersordered.

we then ordered food. my gf's "rocket tots" were tasty, although she only got like... 14 of them for $6.99 so it wasn't a good value at all. i ordered a burger, which was the worst i've had since i moved to charlotte in 2003. the meat had a sour, "off" taste, and the meat was cooked within an inch of its life. it was so dry that it was impossible to eat without liquid. what's more, i ordered it with red dragon cheese (and extra $1), and it was a depressing, congealed mass on top. the 9 fries that came with the meal were served at a less than ideal temp, but were nice and salty in spite of this.

the bottom line is that the waitresses are cute and in skimpy outfits, and the beer selection is good. but if you want to go here, eat somewhere else before you come.

i'm also (literally) offended that the flying saucer charges 99¢ for their iphone\android app... but that is neither here nor there.

good things, bad things. there are some good beers, but there are also goodbeersat total wine... for a fraction of the cost. also i am bothered by the fact that there are special glasses for certain belgianbeersbut no weizen glass for a hefeweizen. and i thought this was a beer emporium. serve average beer in average glasses and special beer in special glasses. i don't want my beer oxidizing because the glass didn't encourage good head retention! on the other hand, there is a decent atmosphere and the jalapeno cheddar fries are good.

worth a try. its a good place to get local beer.

best taphouse in clt! period!. over 200beerson tap i think. a beer lovers delight. next best thing is revolution in n. davidson.
