whenever i come home during uni holidays my dad and i always come here to catch up over good cocktails and great food. i have lots of fond memories at the bathers' pavilion, the foodiest one being the magnificent seafood risotto that i believe is no longer on the menu (but in one of the cookbooks!).

good without being great. had lunch in the restaurant on a sunday. views are magnificent but the service is lacking just a little for what i would expect of a chef hatted restaurant.

the food at bather’s is modern without distracting modernist flourishes, but also solidly grounded in french classical technique, which you would expect from quebecois chef-owner serge dansereau. likewise the wine list, which is pretty extensive, but to eliminate confusion they should just keep bottles of the ruinart blanc des blancs coming.

birthday surprise. boarding a plane early on sunday i had no idea what destination awaited me.

as soon as the cab snaked it's way down towards balmoral the secret was out.

greeted by smart looking staff in crisp sky blue shirts we sat and ordered opening drinks including a delicious chambord champagne cocktail, along with a crisp g & t... perfect.

i can highly recommend the degustation here with the freshest seafood i've had for ages and creative dishes that entice the senses.
kingfish, prawns, blue eye everything was amazing.

watched a late afternoon storm roll in while the raspberry dessert arrived and we decided to indulge in more pinot noir.

many places you pay purely for the view but here it was the perfect balance of both. have told so many people about this amazing experience and will most definitely be back.

thanks to bather's crew, simply stunning.

i had a brilliant meal at bathers' i think the chef, serge, has done an incredible job on the building and the food in the fancy part is sublime. everything balances harmoniously; nothing is superfluous. highlight would be the desserts - no, wait! the mains... or maybe the entrees!!!

best kept secret. tucked into that blissfully calm beach of the north shore, the bathers' pavilion at balmoral beach has the gentle waves literally lapping at the door and a view out to middle harbour and the heads.

the best thing about bathers' is that with the cafe and restaurant occupying two halves of the same building, you can choose exactly what kind of money you want to spend. breakfast here is one of the best-kept secrets of restaurants with a view. grab a coffee at the canteen, take a lazy lunch in the café, or make a night of it with the degustation in the restaurant. either way you'll be taking in a view that has inspired both art and poetry over the years.

did someone say a 7 course dessert degustation? i'm in! this was a one night event held during the crave sydney international food festival. $85 is a price i was willing to pay for this experience. i'd also said i wanted to try a dessert degustation, so when my friend expressed interest in it, i was more than happy to give her that little nudge :) all the tables had to start at the same time, much to my dismay. we had gotten there on time, if not slightly early.. but we were left waiting for about 30 - 40 minutes while the other guests arrived… and darnit, i was hungry! strawberry and lychee consomme, champagne savarin, white balsamic powder all four of us at my table started eating this as soon as it came out. after about 1 or 2 bites, the waiter came around to pour the consomme onto our dessert.. i have to say though, it was tastier before it got drenched, and the rest of us agreed ): peach and yoghurt parfait, almond nougatine, apricot creme caramelised white chocolate, apple tart

had a very pleasant breakfast with a good range of choices on the menu to suit all comers. prices are at the upper end for the portion sizes but given the location not surprising. blueberry pancakes hit the spot for me and a walk along the esplanade after breakfast is a pleasant way to start the day. an early arrival before 8am is worth the effort.

best brekky ever. i love to have breakfast in bathers - both cafe and restaurant side are good. bubble and squeak is a stand out. french toast is amazing too. coffee could be better and sometimes staff are a bit moody, but all in all it is a great spot!

i love the position but the food and service leave a little to be desired. don't get me wrong, the food was nice as were the two cocktails be had. i just found it hard to justify the price when servings are either a) not generous enough, or b) not overwhelming flavourful or original for the price they demand. i've been there for breakfast lunch and dinner, but if i go again i'll avoid dinner times. it's just hars to justify when there are plenty of other places with superior food, service or value. it gets a slightly hesitant "like" from me for the moment.
