i had always wanted to come here but when a friend told me about the special offer you get on your birthday i took a day off work to go have lunch here and it was the best decision ever.
the service was exceptional. staff were attentive yet also provided space for us to enjoy our day together and the beautifulviewif the beach through the big windows.
the best part obviously was the food. i strtted with the fiery mexican a cocktail of tequila, triple sec, grapefruit and chilli which was served in a salted glass. it was definitely fiery with the chilli coming through the drink as well as the salt rim.
shortly after we ordered our food we were served freshly baked beads that were made in house with two types of salt (murray river pink salt and white rock salt) and two types of butter, salted and unsalted. then before the entrees were served we were served an amuse bouche of pork terrine with mushroom puree and hazelnut crumb.
for entrée, we ordered venison tartare and slow cooked pork. the venison tartare was well complimented with a chestnut puree, chestnut chips and homemade grape mustard and black garlic. the grape mustard brought a great hit of favour to the dish. the slow cooked pork literally melted in your mouth.
for mains we had duck breast and beef tenderloin. the duck was perfectly cooked and the miso eggplant that came with it provided a nice salty accompaniment. the coffee crumbed beef cheek was unusual yet delicious.
finally, dessert was the best end of passionfruit mousse with valrhona dulcey blond chocolate turmeric and lemon sauce, passionfruit sorbet and chestnut cream financier blueberries, meringue, chestnut ice cream. passionfruit really shone through. however i couldn't really taste the tumeric. the chestnut cream was very subtle yet delicious.
overall, a lovely way to celebrate a birthday.
