was recommended this thai by a local friend and hotelstaff member. apart from the entertainment provided by one of the other diners, this was a great experience from the service, selection and food . will definitely recommend this dining experience to others.

my wife and i had a beautiful evening at the thai chef in onekawa - our first visit there.
the whole experience reminded us of our holiday in bangkok, it really was an authentic thai restaurant. thestaffwere friendly yet courteous and the food was excellent. service was quick, no delays and well presented.
we will definitely be taking our overseas visitors there to enjoy a super night out.

(we did have one very slight problem in reading the beautiful colourful menu, due to the writing being white & small against a fancy background and with our ageing eyesight it was quite difficult to read in some parts).

looking forward to many more such evenings! :-)

visited last night as a family group with 5 young children.
ridiculous service. ordered all vegetarian food with no fish or meat and was served with prawns in the salad, still charged for the item. took over an hour for the food to be served and that too half the order arrived, missed out on 2 mains. when asked why the food took so long, the waiter replied rudely because we didn’t mention to get all the food together, they were waiting for the starters to finish which had already finished for more than 20 mins ago. to add to all this there was a group of intoxicated youngsters right behind our table swearing and creating ruckus in the restaurant and none of thestaffmembers bothered to take any action. would never ever visit again or recommend. inspite of all this no apologies whatsoever from anystaffor management. 😡😡😡

nice place for thai lovers, spicy 🌶 and authentic food with good quality 😋 specially the suicide bomber recipe of chicken 🍗 really yummy 🤤staffis also good

great food. seafood volcanoes was a big surprise. duck in love is so tasty that we end up sipping the gravy straight from the bowl. desserts were presented so well. good value for money. thai hosts were very attentive & friendly. i wish i could say the same to localstaffwho were silent & cold as icy stones.

we had a party of 18 adults who dined at thai chef new plymouth last night 30.10.2014. would like to say from start to finish we had exceptional service. the waitstaffwere onto us very quickly to take our drink and food orders and were professional, friendly and efficient. we were all very impressed as all our meals were received by us within about 10 mins of each other when they started coming. would highly recommend to anyone wanting a true authentic thai dining experience.

a group of us went for a birthday meal, midweek, and just lovely. super tasty meal. have been before and love the range of spicy meals, covers all tastes, which is great. grandchildren arrived with a birthday cake andstaffcouldn't have been more helpful in providing candles plates etc........made one poppa very happy!

4 of us went to the thai chefs restaurant on wednesday. we were shown to our table and the ignored for 30 minutes. when the waitstaffeventually came to our table, we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink, she sullenly asked if we were ready to order. there was no information given on any of the starters or main courses. the food was mediocre at best, tasting as boring and generic as any fast food noodle house. we will definitely not be wasting our time or money going back.

waitstaffpleasant but could be more onto it with service - one diner out of our party of six not happy with meal (duck fatty only two pieces of meat edible-would not come back) thai chef's at mangonui rules !!!
so in comparison our experience in napier was, unfortunately, somewhat disappointing.

there's only one word for this restaurant.........fantastic!!!!
we frequently eat thai food and in fact look for a thai restaurant before any other and we have a couple of favourites back home in aus. this one is up there with the best we've ever had.
they were very busy on a friday evening but thestaffwere very polite, seated us promptly, took our order in adequate time and the waitress enquired as to our satisfaction with meal.

we had the same problem before the place burned down in the recent fire. everyone of our party received their meal except me and nearly and hour later and i still hadn't received my meal. thestaffdidn't appear to give a stuff and i left refusing to wait for my main - they got angry but i did not want to have to eat my meal on my own, it was embarrassing. disgusting service, just a different culture.

dined out 7 adults and 6 kids including 2 infants.staffwere courteous, efficient and helpful and the food was great. we took our own wine one bottle which we hadn't chilled off properly so they brought out it out in a cooler for us, helpful waitstaffin recommending best menu mix for our adult/children ratio. we all would recommend this as a place to dine and would go there again.

absolutely stunning food and atmosphere. i went with a large table and meals were exactly as expected and better! loved everything we received. service was a little shaky at times, but thestaffwere extremely apologetic and it is to be expected when a restaurant has been open less than a month, and is already fully booked every night. an all around amazing restaurant and would recommend to everyone!
