thai chef's restaurant

we’ve just received takeaways from this restaurant. we ordered and were told it would take 35 mins but it took well over an hour. we informed him this was notgoodpractice and that we had young kids at home who were hungry. the owner brushed it off and while he reluctantly apologised he didn’t offer a discount or sincerely acknowledge any inconvenience caused. to top it off the food was decidedly average and bland. suffice to say we won’t be going back.

nice place for thai lovers, spicy 🌶 and authentic food withgoodquality 😋 specially the suicide bomber recipe of chicken 🍗 really yummy 🤤 staff is also good

we waited for food quite long like almost 45mins-1hr. food weregoodbut not that wow. we had variety of food and comments from the table is spicy level here is pretty spicy compared to other restaurants in the area which i think it’s agoodpoint. i had stir-fried noodle with crispy pork and the quantity was huge but the taste was not that great. lots of big chunk of crispy porks but they seems to be too thick for one bite, not many vegetable in the dish as i expected. the decoration was too much with elephants everywhere. service was alright.

tonights dinner restaurant was always going to be up against it after last nights 5 rating meal. we didnt book and they where heavily booked but they cheerfully found a table for us. the service was verygoodno complaints. we had 2 entrees 3 mains 1 jasmine rice 1 coconut rice 1 glass of wine and 3 soft drinks between the 4 of us for $108 so very reasonable. overall the meal was verygoodhence the high rating. one of the best thai i have been to.

had a nice and spicy thai dinner with friends. food is quite expensive but it's worth the money.goodambience andgoodservice. the unique names given to the dishes make it tough to identify the dish you are looking for.

i went there with some friends,goodservice, friendly staff. is a very nice place to eat. they have variety of food. nice clean place. :) :)

great food. seafood volcanoes was a big surprise. duck in love is so tasty that we end up sipping the gravy straight from the bowl. desserts were presented so well.goodvalue for money. thai hosts were very attentive & friendly. i wish i could say the same to local staff who were silent & cold as icy stones.

cheap and the service is good.

their laksa and satay chicken's flavour is not asgoodas their auckland fellow but still tasty for me.

it is the draw back as their laksa is served in small bawl so your chopsticks could easily stir the soup out.

this is my first restaurant review.

i went to this restaurant and read all about this chain around nz and how successful it had been. the restaurant looked clean and the menu looked professional.

i sat down and ordered a chicken pad thai and a glass of wine. the food came out without exaggeration within 5 mins, maybe even 4 which made me worry a little considering it was chicken. anyway it tastedgoodenough but after about my 3rd mouthful i found a whole cooked fly in it.

i haven't come across this before and naturally it made me feel a little ill. i called the waitress over and i have to say she didn't appear all that shocked as she took the dish away. at this stage i had no idea what was going on and whether she was planning on taking the fly out and giving me the dish back so i called her back and said i will go for squid pad thai instead.

i was getting pretty irate by this stage having had no apology or explanation so i informed her that i wouldn't be paying for the main (silly me in hindsight). the waiter after going away and consulting with the manager told me that she would give me the price of the squid for the price of the chicken (which is $3 cheaper and still no apology). i pointed at my computer and told her i would post on the internet. i ate the squid when it came albeit suspicious of what may have happened to it.

i left and didn't get billed for it but i still did not receive an apology as i left for this unacceptable negligence.

land of smile? i don't think so.....
neither myself nor my 7 dining companions would bother going back.
the service wasgoodconsidering that waiters were mostly high school students…., after sitting for almost 1 1/2 hours waiting no snacks were offer to calm our grumbling tummies and when asked on food estimated arrival and why some customers who arrived after us were already paying their bills, the thai manager "kay" was rude, arrogant and told us those customer “pre order” and that was it…… obviously those people were bitten before with the delay….
i worked in thailand for 5 years and even in the worst touristy places like pattaya or phuket, thai nationals behaved in such un-courteous manners.
as for the food, too hungry to appreciate....
in conclusion, new plymouth is a small town, words goes fast, my guests and i work in 4 of the top engineering companies in town….

my wife and i visited here for a meal before christmas, we had only ever had thai food once and to be honest it was awful. anyway we had heardgoodthings about thai chef and we though we would give it a try for something different.
we had the mixed appitisers to start. we both enjoyed this although we should have bough 0ne each. for the main course i had the naughty pig and my wife had the black pepper beef, we each sampled both dishes. the food was ok but not really something we would go for again. the service was acceptable without being friendly, it was busy at the time. i will say that it was much better then the last time i had thai food

great atmosphere,goodservice and the food was fantastic, especially for the price range. the menu has to be the largest i've ever seen so there's definitely something for everybody. the singha thai beer went down a treat - you won't be too disappointed if you gave this place a go.

horrible experience, my fiancee and i have over 30 years experience in the hospitality industry(i'm a chef) we thought it might be nice to try thai chefs for a nice nye dinner. o boy bad idea, we were seated at a table that had no knives included in the setting. service wasgoodand our waitress was pleasant enough. drinks arrived and her champagne was served in a huge red wine glass? i had a cocktail and it was so sweet as to be hardly palatable. entrees were very average, with very little thai influence at all. my main was more like very cheap chinese takeaways. my fiancee had the thai green curry which was above ok, except that after telling our waiter 2 times that she only wanted it mild, it came out packed with chili and was far to hot! considered sending it back but gave up after some, deciding that it might be better to eat it rather than waiting again for something equally as crap. skipped the desert and paid the bill which was huge for such poor food and service. also some of the menu items has quite offensive titles such as "the alcoholic" and "suicide bomber". (disgusting and in very bad taste) this would be a great place to take granny and granddad out for a pig out but that's it. sorry thai chefs, but it was not a nice night.
