i like their tacos puerto vallarta (2 fish tacos), the waitress said that they (along with the shrimp tacos) were the house specialty; the menu says that they were voted "best in kansas city", i agree that they are good, but it is a toss-up between these and the ones served by the folks at el patron for the best in class category.

just changed my review. what amazingly poor or indifferent service. i went to the bar and sat down observing a waitress and waiter behind the bar talking. i waited. i continued waiting. as they left i asked for a menu. "just a second," she replied, then brought me a menu and disappeared downstairs. her tone of voice and attitude distinctly conveyed that i was an inconvenience or annoyance. i walked out in order to post the review of the poor service. i've been a good customer for nearly nine years. i may not return. nice service. this is not how your gain or retain loyal customers.

when we lived in kc teocali was our favorite spot for mexican. the terraza offers a great view and fun atmosphere making it great for a group party or simply just getting outside on a nice day. great tequila selection, coronaritas are on point!

i liked what i got here, pretty authentic food. the service needs a little work, been here many times but it's always been a bit of an issue. other than that, the area is cool and the prices are decent.

love the vibe and ambiance of this place.  we had an inexperienced server and he was trying but, i wouldn't like to be seated with him again.  he really didn't know about the food but was acting like he did instead of saying so and asking someone when we asked him questions.  if we had food allergies we would have been in trouble.  the food was decent mexican fare but quite honestly it is located close enough to los tules that i would rather go there.  it wasn't bad and if a friend wanted to meet there i would go but it just wasn't great.  the guacamole wasn't that great, i make better.  i had the sopas-meh.

fajitas - perfecto!. the fajitas at teocali's are perfection. the best joco or kcmo has to offer! the flavor of these are so good! the service is spot on & the atmosphere with live music on the weekends completes the night! we will happily return!

clearly not a 92%...way over ranked.. sw blvd has way more hidden gems. not to mention other locals like el ji nete' or real jalisco. weak, weak overpriced margaritas, that were mostly ice. and, seriously no chips and salsa? that is a first. would never go back.

wow! a hidden gem in kc--my husband has lived here most of his life and we only found this via urbanspoon
the food is phenomenal. no joke. fish tacos and shrimp quesedilla are worth coming back next week!! also are not skimpy on their cocktails :)

pleasantly surprised.... i feel like before every review of a mexican or tex-mex restaurant i need to let everyone know i grew up in south texas and have always lived in a border town growing up. since leaving home it has been difficult to find restaurants that even come close to those i grew up with.

teocali's was a pleasant surprise in my kc search for good mexican food. we went for dinner last night. there weren't very many people there so we were able to be seated any where we wanted. maybe the only serious draw back of this place is the charge for chips and salsa. i feel like if you're ordering a meal these things should be on the house. if you're just in to drink and talk...go right ahead and charge for the chips and salsa. the salsa was actually really good and it was a nice change to be able to pick out the spices and ingredients involved. generally when we go to mexican places it tastes like "prego" or ketchup with some cumin or chili powder. but kudos to you teocali for having good salsa.

my wife ordered the fish tacos (best in kc....as says the menu) and they were very good. she liked the sauce that came with it; it was like a creamy chipotle sauce. i had the beef fajitas. let me admit something again. i am unashamedly a fajita snob. outside of home there are only a few places i will venture out and pay for fajitas (chuy's, papasito's, etc)...these weren't bad. they had flavor of their own which was nice. my only complaint would be that they were awfully thin. tasty...but thin. the rice and beans were good too; both the refried and charro beans.

over all a good experience and i will return to try some other items on the menu. perhaps by then i can have my chips and salsa free along with the $10 meal i've purchased. that is the world i wish to live in.

great food and service. i think this is the best mexican food in kansas city.
i have been through most of the menu and have yet to find anything i don't like. their sauces are spicy but not overpowered with added pepper.
they make outstanding margaritas. order it 'skinny' and it comes were straight, freshly-sqeezed lime juice.
the servers are friendly and helpful. the food comes out fast but you are never rushed.

loud but delicious. tok hubby and son to teocali's today. restaurant is small with a tall ceiling so it echos. wait staff are used to the noise level and can understand what you are ordering even if you are struggling to be heard. food is good. chicken and cheee enchiladas were hearty and had a good chili-based sauce. their carne asada parrilla is a lean but perfectly grilled piece of steak. reminder that they charge for chips and salsa. otherwise good food. will return.

go for the vibe, and service. otherwise, eat at home. nice neighborhood feel. several customers greeted as regulars. helpful friendly service. moderate price.

maybe i ordered wrong. pollo en su salsa: two frozen grilled chicken breast pieces topped with canned mushrooms, a few onion slivers, and salsa from a jar. rice and beans. less than $10. i ate it because i was hungry. very salty. but this dish could be done at home in less time than it took me to type this.

so next time i'll go for the vibe and the friendly service and skip the food.
