have read several reviews unhappy with service, i think it really depends on server and expectation. will they win service awards? no, but they also won't ruin your night. i was in on tuesday and we had a wonderful meal. the sushi rolls are delicious, and the portions are generous. we have tried the tom yum soup and the miso, both delicious. my boyfriend's favorite is the beef and garlic entree. i took tan tan noodles to go and enjoyed them twice for lunch this week. anticipate a wait on weekends, and be patient with your server, then enjoy!

horrible service, rude manager. my husband i have been loyal tasu customers for years. we have always been happy with the food, however the rude reception i got from the manager as i asked to be seated today will mean that we will never go back. the man was not only rude to me, but he was openly aggressive to the 2 hostesses, who literally cowered with fear when he snapped at them. i left , disgusted.
when i called back later to give feedback as to why i had left, i unfortunately got the same guy, who hung up on me midsentence as i politely asked to speak to the owner . i called back in case it was a bad line and he did the same thing again. what a jerk and what a shame as the food was great !

this i my favorite restaurant. i eat her once or twice a week. the sushi is wonderful and awsomely priced. i've seen people complain about splitting the bill. my solution to that was one person pays for the bill and the other person gives them cash for their half. not always fair, but fair enough.

bad. my previous review from when they had been open about a year was favorable - "decent" sushi for the price, entrees were tasty, attentive service. i hadn't been for awhile and recently went back, despite hearing it was going downhill. the 90.5 sanitation grade almost made us walk back out but we thought it looked full so we'd give it a shot. in a nutshell:

communal bowl of salad dressing for the table to share - we had to be careful to each not take more that the others - weird,
hot and sour soup that smelled as bad as it tasted,
miso soup that needed soy sauce added to make it palatable,
pad thai that was the furthest thing from pad thai i've ever had. it was actually on the edge of gross,
sushi rolls that fell apart when you pick them up. every. single. one.
server who couldn't answer basic questions about the dishes. i think we had a bus person waiting our table?
food runners who knocked over a drink and didn't take away used plates.

when we were leaving, our headlights shone on the building and you could see damage from the fire that was never repaired, just covered up. i think they just don't care anymore.

won't be back and i cannot recommend this place to anyone.

great sushi, horrible customer service.. the sushi and sushi chefs are great. the waitresses are horrible, takes forever for them to take your order, they try to bully you into buying the most expensive rolls, and then takes forever to get your check and pay. also, there should be a way to tip the sushi chef and not the waitress when paying with your credit card.

worst customer service. in the past i had visited tasu once every 2-3 weeks, because the sushi is pretty solid. tonight, my wife visited and had the worst experience ever. her and friend visited, both ordered two separate sushi rolls. my wife order two sushi rolls that were $13+, knowing that the lowest priced sushi roll on her bill would be free. they specifically requested at the beginning that their tickets be split. the server brought one check and they requested it be split. after having to put up a fight just for that, he finally agreed to split the checks. he was then very rude and would not allow my wife to have her two sushi rolls on her check, rather they required them to pay for the two highest priced rolls (although they were not both hers) and two separate checks. obviously i was very upset when she told me this so i called the restaurant and first spoke with a 'manager' whom i couldn't even understand. when she realized i was serious she sent me to a guy named richard. i called richard and he was the 'director of operations'. richard proceeded to say that they post a notice in 'green letters' at the bottom of the menu and that it is written that the buy 1/get 1 is per table. he was not helpful at all, and had a very cocky attitude. i then asked for the owners name, who is tham nguyen, and his contact information. richard refused to give me that information and said "that's just how things are". after speaking with richard i immediately called american express (who i fully recommend) and they voided the payment and are looking into the merchant.

bottom line - this is a dishonest merchant who continually shows terrible customer service. i will never go back to one of 'tham nguyen's' restaurants, he obviously has a very misleading business plan. he also owns shiki sushi in durham.

meal deal. i just came from my first dining experience at tasu, and i was pleased. who doesn't like a buy one sushi roll, get one free deal? my friend was brought one roll different than what she ordered, but was not charged for the extra roll. awesome. she ended up having three rolls for the price of one, and the waiter took responsibility for the mix-up. i appreciated that service. our rolls were yummy, but note to self: stick with water. the soda was $2.50. yowza!

repeat customer. i have eaten here many times and never had an issue with service. i have also eaten with friends. if you want to split the bill, you need to communicate that with your waiter before ordering and not assume you can wait until you get the bill, and what will probably happen is they will have you order in different columns on the sushi menu. very simple. either that or split the bill evenly and share your different rolls. but the sushi is excellent and i think it is the best in raleigh.

best sushi in raleigh. the service does blow. i'll give them that. but i've found that if you just "man handle" the server, as in boss them around and spell it out for them, it's not so bad.
that being said, this is hands down the best sushi in raleigh. it is the sister restaurant to shiki in durham. i moved her from chicago and prefer that all my rolls not be cover in 1) spicy mayo 2) eel sauce 3) both like so many other sushi joints do around here. maybe it's a southern thing. i don't know. sushi is about simplicity, subtlety, not covering everything in sauces, deep frying every roll, etc. my favorite roll is the special negero roll (no sear) any roll that comes with a sear tastes like propane from the torch they use to sear it. i don't know why they do it, i just write no sear on the ticket and it comes out just fine.

so yes, the service blows b/c it's a bunch of teenagers who don't care. and the manager is a dick. i've had to argue with him a couple of times. but i keep going back b/c it literally is the only place to get passable sushi in raleigh.

not consumer ignorance.... of course, you expect to pay for the higher cost sushi roll when it's buy one get one free. however, if you buy 2 expensive rolls of equal value and your friend buys 2 cheap rolls, you would expect that you would each pay for the higher roll you had respectively. especially considering the sign says of equal of lesser value, it doesn't seem right to charge you both for the expensive rolls. it's just a bad policy, which is a shame because it overshadows the fact that the sushi is good.
