taranto's crawfish

yes it is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. we had the buffalo shrimp, shrimp and crawfish bisque , shrimpplatterand catfish platter. everything was very good. it is a good thing i don't live close as i would be a regular and many pounds heavier.
the tarantos fries - crispy french fries covered in cheese and a lip smacking brown gravy are a weight watchers nightmare but worth it
the fried fish was fried perfect for me - crispy ends and moister in the thick parts. i got 5 yes 5 nice size filets in my order. can you say stuffed?
the waitress was very attentive and never let our glasses get half empty.

seafood platter. great food but when i pay $23.00 for aplatterof seafood i got 6 small shrimp, 6 small oysters and 1 small piece of fish, 1 crab cake. i know several people that has made these same comments about getting shorted on seafood there when ordering take out . also when i order seafood i dont care for 60% of my food being potatoes { vegetables } ? maybe taronto's will read this and beef up the oysters, shrimp and fish ?

awesome. this place is a hole-in-the-wall in an out-of-the-way location. however, they have awesome food. i had the gumbo and a shrimpplatterthat was covered in shrimp.

taranto's was an excellent choice for our last meal on the coast. the fried seafoodplatterwas great and bountiful. will definitely visit them again.

good, but not exceptional. is how i would characterize the food we had at taranto's. we had the fried seafoodplatterand the grilled shrimp salad and finished with bread pudding. the shrimp salad was very good and the shrimp had a distinctive flavor. my fried seafoodplatterwas a mixed bag. the crab cake was very tasty, the breading complimented the crab and didn't hide the crab flavor. the fried oysters were oh so good, delicate, salty, and sweet. the fried shrimp were rather undistinguished. the one fillet of fried catfish was thin and overpowered by the frying, but the other was nice, plump, and sweet. tho' the breading on each was not very flavorful. the fries were ok, but plentiful. the bread pudding was ok, but again not exceptional. the service, tho', was exceptional, but they were not very busy on a saturday evening. the booths were kinda tight and 2 normal size people cannot sit across from each other. this first trip was good enough to warrant a follow-on to try some of the boiled seafood.
