food connoisseur. some of the best indian food i've ever had... and i know indian, i am indian!chickenkorma is my favorite there's just something special about the sweetness of boneless dark meat in a sauce filled with a treasure of almonds and sweet raisins! i recommend having thechickenkorma with buttered naan; but seriously, everything i've had has been excellent. for the best indian food and service in lexington, i highly encourage people to go eat at taj india!

excellent ethnic food & servicei recently held a graduation party with about 30 attendees. we worked with a caterer to have bbq pork, but decided to order one indian dish, as some of my family grew up in calcutta. turns out, everyone chose this food above the bbq and raved about it. we had 0 leftovers of thechickentikka masala. highly recommend and looking forward to returning. thank you, taj india!

taj india is arguably the best indian restaurant in lexington. the lunch buffet is inexpensive and offers a solid variety of curries andchickendishes, not to mention, free chai! their regular menu items are a little bit more pricey, but completely worth it seeing that they prepare each dish with special care and time. the walls of the restaurant are covered with incredible works of indian art and really makes it a relaxing environment to eat in. the staff are all friendly and if you are a regular, they will definitely recognize your business and give you their best quality service. i recommend the butterchickencurry to anyone who is giving this restaurant a try. it's a very balanced blend of spices and the tomato base that leaves you with a tangy after taste in your mouth that begs to be filled with more. naan is a must when eating curry, any of their wide variety of bread is sure to be a good combination with your curry.

i purchased a groupon to try this restaurant out. we went during lunch -----they have a nice looking buffet, but we ordered off of the menu. the facility itself is ok, not overwhelmingly nice or anything but very clean. the service was great, and the food was delicious! i had thatchickentikka saag & my girlfriend got tochickentikka masala (that i also tried). the ingredients were fresh and the naan was yummy too!! if you enjoy good indian food, this is a place to add to your list!

good food, terrible decor.. my fiance and i went here for a celebration. we decided to split the non-vegetarian thali. it included two huge samosas and sauce, naan, raita, rice, chickencurry, lamb curry, chickenmasala, shrimp masala, gulab jaman, and kheer. the food was well-prepared, but we were a little disappointed that the hot was not as spicy as we wanted. nevertheless, it was seasoned very well and was still delicious. our service was polite and attentive, and we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal without feeling rushed. when we left, we were given a discount card for future visits.

my only complaint was that all of the dishes in the thali came out at the same time. so, while the samosas were piping hot, the gulab jaman was cold by the time we got to it. next time, i'll just eat it first. :)

pretty tasty plus friendly service!. we stopped in here pretty late one weeknight after not eating anything all day. we ordered a lot -- vegetable platter of appetizers, tandoori mixed grill, and vegetarian thali. our server first brought out some pappadam and an onion chutney, i think. it was very good and nice to have something tasty to munch until the appetizers came out. the veg platter had vegetable pakoras, samosas, aloo tikki, and cheese pakoras. these are probably the best indian appetizers i've ever had in a restaurant. absolutely delicious! the mixed tandoori grill hadchickenand minced lamb with onions and green peppers. there was a lot on the platter, and it was tasty. my only problem with it though was that i was expecting a drier tandoori meat like i've had in the past, and this was very saucy and bbq-ish. good but not what i tend to get when i order tandoori. finally, the vegetable thali was excellent! it came with dal makhani, channa masala, malai kofta, shahi paneer korma, raita, naan, vegetable samosas, basmati rice, gulab jamun, and kheer. we couldn't finish everything.... but it took it home to finish later! *grin* everything served was wonderful! the server would have brought more basmati rice had we needed it, but we had plenty! the kheer wasn't overly sweetened and was the best i've had. between tasty food and super friendly service, we will definitely be returning!

solid. this new indian restaurant replaced india garden, in the cursed location in patchen village that has seen multiple restaurants come and go (alladin's mediterranean, some bar and grill, patchen thai, and india garden) since the old oriental inn closed in the early 1990s. it has a daily lunch buffet that features the local standards - tandoori chicken, chickentikka masala, and aloo gobi, although lately they will occasionally substitute with something more adventurous like goat curry, chili chicken, etc. the flavors taste fresher than some of the others like masala. service is friendly, the dining room space is nice, and there seems to be a good ethnic indian clientele, which is always a good sign. there are some nights when they seem depressingly empty, which is unfortunate since the place is pretty good. i hope they can keep up the food quality, which sadly india garden didn't.

brilliant!. we went to taj india with a party of 5, decently late on a friday night. we were one of 4 tables when we were seated (it was after 9pm), the service was attentive, the restaurant was well decorated, the seating was comfortable.it was very reasonably priced, our bill totaled $70 for 5 people, and the most expensive entree we ordered was $14, two people could easily have a dinner here for under $30. and if all this sounds bland, it's because after having the food at this place it's hard for me to be passionate about anything else. their tandoorichickenwas hands down the best i've ever had, their naan was fresh and cooked perfectly. there wasn't a complaint at the table, and we ordered a decently diverse selection from the menu. i'd eaten at this place maybe 8 months ago, and it was alright. since then it has apparently changed ownership, management, and well... just about everything. and it is now, i would venture to say, the best ethnic food in lexington!
