referred here by omni la maison after stay for weekend wedding. will let them know this review too. after brashly being told by the, i think owner/host to please wait outside until table ready, i asked if i could get a margarita while waiting. told nobody working bar, but he pointed to a server and said ask her. and come to find out, she was serving food to those at the bar. in the end we were told we could stay there. took a while before she even made it to us, and not completely because of the crowd. anyway, as she poured margarita in the glass right in front of me, i said i had asked for salt. she said ' oh sorry, i couldn't find the thing' hand motioning glass down to a rimmer. and to top it off, it was the worst ever. ordered food and an hour later, after the people next to us had eaten and left in the sametimeframe, she said our food would be ready soon. never came. we left ten bucks on the bar, more than margarita and chips were worth and left. as we walked out, she yelled to owner that we were walking the check. my husband is using a cane and walking slowly. we certainly weren't running out, nor were we trying to get out of paying. on the contrary, we were excited to [almost] eat at what we thought was going to be a great place, but they absolutely didn't deliver anything good. no one came outside and i figure it was because they knew what they had done. but if so, they should have come out and apologized. again, we were walking at a snails pace and could have easily been stopped. wanted that great san antonio mexican breakfast, off the beaten path, on our way out of town. nope. not this time! not this place!

play it again quetzalcoatl. as busy for lunch as it is for breakfast on the weekend. managed to get a table for two immediately though in the back adjacent to the bar. if you like those old velvet paintings that were ubiquitous in market places along the mexican border, you're going to love the bigger than life aztec or mayan wall murals in vivid colors over the bar and around the restaurant.

may want to stick with a cold beer to go with you mexican food as the margaritas on the rocks are a bit weak and the fruity margaritas refreshing but weak as well. bean and cheese nachos were made from tasty refrieds and mild cheese. beef and cheese enchiladas had all the right stufff, but the enchilada gravy had an unsual seasoning that i did not care for - almost like lawry's season salt. great puffy taco though the corn masa shell was so soft that it had a bottom blow-out as soon as i attempted to lift it. hate it when that happens! the thin slice of carne asada was served with a dollop of garlicky guacamole on top. now that makes a good taco if you are of a mind. frijoles a la charra were chuck full of bacon. couldn't finish 'em, but not to worry. they came home and will rise again as refrieds for some homemade breakfast tacos using the excellent flour tortillas that made the togo styro as well.

liked the lunch here but love the breakfast. definitely my breakfast taco haven.

line up for great tacos. now you're talking - breakfast tacos that is. pillowy tortillas and wonderful meats and ingredients to fill them with. you will find this place wildly popular for a weekend breakfast .. . lines out the door so be prepared to wait. amazingly enough we had a table within 5 minutes after arrival. must be that we had a party of 2 when everyone else seemed to come with enough relatives for a small family reunion. needless to say, we received a few scowls when we were escorted past the line and to a table.

sitting there you feel a bit transported intimeback to the 1940's. the building is at least that old and reminds one of a cafeteria during that era - sub-way tiles, industrial ceiling .. . just wonderful. the decor is plain, simple and o-l-d. that's what gives it its identity and i wouldn't have it any other way.

tables are close. close enough to hear exactly what your neighbor is ordering as well as other tidbits of info and life's little dramas that you would rather not be privy to.
just hope that you are not seated next to one of those little old senoras that wear the cloyingly sweet little old lady perfume . . . you know the ones . . . they will pass you in the grocery store and you have to hold your breath while you sprint to a far away isle! with this kind of proximity, your olfactory glands would have a melt down.

then the tacos came. now these are some of the best i have had. just wish i did not live on the other side of town; or maybe i do to keep me from weighing 300 lbs!

customer service means 0! ordered 4 tacos, verified 2, got there and confirmed again then left w/ 3 & when i called they say "u only paid for 3". i told them the point is that i specifically ordered 4, now whether i was charged for 3 is irrelevant. i spoke to 2 different people whom i repeated my order and the fact that no accommodation was made to rectify their mistake i got a "well nexttimecheck your bag before leaving". epitome of bad service! won't return or recommend to anyone

i have praised this place for awesome mexican food before. i finally tried the 26. tommy’s carne de puerco en chile colorado. the best i have had! just take your fresh homemade tortilla tear off a piece and scoop up a piece with sauce and enjoy! it melts in your mouth the meat is so tender and the sauce is rich and flavorful!

lunchtime favorite. i go here for lunch with coworkers on average 2-3 times a month. they recently updated the inside. service is good and i have a hardtimeresisting getting the cheese enchiladas, i think it is the sauce they are just so good. the ralphies special is always good as is any thing i have ever ordered there. they fill up at lunch and it can be a little noisy, but is part of the ambience.

since my parents and i would be in san antonio for about 24 hours together, my mom wanted us to try out a restaurant she'd read about from alison cook , a food writer at the houston chronicle. it's funny, back when i was in newspaper my senior year of high school, my mother wanted me to ask the teacher if i could write restaurant reviews for the school's paper, and here i am 7-8 years later, writing a restaurant review blog. anyone who knows anything about that newspaper situation will know my mother's idea wasn't going to happen. i stayed on during this teacher's regime, not having a better class to take during thattimeslot. i happily spent mytimeas a lowly "reporter," shitting out one lame, bare minimum requirement fulfilling article per week in about 4 minutes, and then spending the rest of thetimefinding new ways to get around the school's internet blocking mechanisms in order to play around on ebaumsworld. does that site still exist? apparently , but i don't think anyone act

not bad for breakfast. in all fairness, i've only eaten at taco haven at breakfast. for a long time, i've heard people rave over the quality of the food there. i've liked everything i've gotten from there, but it's been nothing amazing. the people who run the place are really nice people. they are really stingy with the hot sauce on to-go orders. the lasttimei took breakfast tacos to work, they gave us only two tiny containers of salsa (about 2 teaspoons) for 10 tacos. sometimes they leave it out totally. be sure and check for hot sauce before leaving.
