50-50. i visited syun after tons of coaxing. i am always a bit scared when it comes to food choice.

anyways, we ordered a beef salad along with halibut and avacado tempura. this was ok. i also ordered some chicken which was awesome but, thesushiwas the best that we've tried so far.

i wouldn't recommend the desserts. it's a waste of money.

food is good. you need to visit this place atleast 2-3 times to actually figure out what you really enjoy.

very cozy place in hillsboro downtown. we liked the yakisoba noodles and thesushirolls. they had vegetarian options and were ready make vegetarian version of any thing we chose on the menu.

dr j. just a fabulous, fun and authentic little japanese restaurant. it is in funky little downtown hillsboro, set in the basement (and front garden) of one of the original carnegie public library buildings and it does not disappoint, ever. busy, very friendly and welcoming, excellent food and service. my girlfriend is native japanese and she loves our little dates out here - like a slice of home. on a hot summer day sit on the little patio and try the summer cuisine - cold noodles andsushiwith a unique chilled sake' or beer - oishii!

thesushihere is fabulous. this is the most authentic japanese food for miles. if you go during warm weather, you can sit outside. also make sure you check out the town fountain a few blocks over. have kids bring a change of clothes so they can get wet. then take the family down the street to the old drug store and get an old-fashioned milkshake!

yeah, not so much...... in a cage full of tigers, the bobcat looks a lot less dangerous. syun was not horrible, but it was not worth the drive or money. if i lived next door, i might stop in once a quarter, but certainly not worth a 40 min drive.

the miso soup was watery and lacked miso flavor. the shrimp and veggie tempura was supremely disappointing with overcooked shrimp and raw potato. additionally, the breading was altogether too thick to be considered a tempura. the geoduck nigiri was horrible.sushimeans rice and the rice was horribly overcooked and actually overpowered the flavor and texture of the geoduck. i ate the second piece sans rice.

the california roll was decent, dare i say good, but this is likesushi101. the syun special roll, which contains 0 raw fish, was also quite nice, but was also a safe play. the octopus/cucumber salad was another high point, but was underseasoned and needed some salt.

all-in-all, not worth the drive or the money. we shall keep looking.sushiis a tough thing to do anywhere, but i feel like this place gets higher reviews because of the vacuum of decentsushiplaces in the area. i will not go back.

the best.. i have eaten a lot ofsushiin my time, a lot. this is the best. fish is always incredibly fresh and masterfully prepared. i rarely eat off of the menu but every time i have i have been impressed. my kids even love it. we drive from walla walla several times a year just to eat here. its that good. and the sake selection is just as incredible as the food.

excellentsushiand sake/soju. the food is excellent at syun, by far some of the bestsushii've had. the waitstaff are very helpful and quick. the price is a little high but given the quality of the fish and presentation of the dishes are spectacular. i keep going back and have never been disappointed!

mark and others are idiots (or have never been to japan). mark goes to syun's for a steak?!?!?!? wtf? many of my friends and collegues who have been to japan love everything about syuns. fresh ingredients, the bestsushiin the portland area and possibly in the entire nw. the staff is friendly, the service is great, and the sake selection is unmatched anywhere except in japan. syun's for steak and then post a review....goofy!
