every city has its heroes- people, monuments, buildings, natural gifts, which become the city's pride. the city is known for them, breathes them. it's quite amazing how a restaurant can be one of the city's heroes. yes, that is how much this place is talked about when it comes to food in amritsar. i have been hearing tunes of praises for this dhaba/restaurant ever since i was in school. it's true that this place was among my priorities when i visited amritsar few days back. we came in for an early lunch, but were still surprised to see the place completely empty. the interiors are pretty much barren with just a television and a framed newspaper clipping with praises for this place, though i liked the concept of the see-through kitchen. we ordered amritsari fried fish, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, butter naan, lachha parantha; aka the staple punjabi-mughlai heaven. everything tasted really good but i would say nothing was as good as i'd never had before. honestly, i was quite disappointed with the quantity of the starters because it nowhere matched the prices. the owner is a friendly man and didn't fail to entertain us with his stories of serving famous bollywood stars at this very place. overall, i'd recommend you visit this place while pretending to be unaware of its proclaimed heroism :)
