oh sunny spot, i already feel like have a complex relationship with this space because i love roy choi. i've been to this restaurant twice now. once for my birthday when they just opened and again this passed weekend. i love that they blast reggae music in la. it's very trendy and cute. they did a good job of making the crowd urban chic. it's still casual enough to accommodate any person that enjoys rum and isn't too specific when it comes to the definition of, "carribean". upon my first visit i had high expectations because it was my birthday. the hostesses were warm and welcoming and they even accommodated me when my number of guest shifted ( while we were in the lounge). the manager on the other hand was very rude to his staff. he was really nice to me of course but there was clearly a miscommunication and he didnt want us seated before everyone arrived. he yelled at the wrong host and realized he was being watched and came over and welcomed us. i wish i could remember his name. he had dark hair, thick brows, and he could have been italian or latino. he was not a nice guy. theloungewas very loud which i didn't mind because i was in celebration mode. if you want to chat i'd recommend the dining room. the drinks rock out! bartenders are awesome and theloungewaiters slow. they seem like great people but the sequence of service is very weak in terms of communication. i waited 10 minutes for utensils after my food came to the table ( in the lounge). my second visit i had to find a host to get aloungeserver. as i said before if you are dining or there for dinner go to the dining room. theloungedoes better in music and cocktails. i will say the calamari and burger are to die for. they are both great for appetizers and i had the burger twice. this is coming from a person that used to be a raw foodist. they always run out of wings and i have yet to try them. if you want wings get there early. furthermore, i will return for the cocktails alone. i wouldn't bring my mom, it's just too noisy for an older crowd.
