the food is good, but the service suk-ed. we selected this restaurant on the basis of reviews here on urbanspoon figuring thai food would be nice after a 6-hour drive. it sits in a strip mall and as you enter, you practically fall right in because tables are not more than 3 feet from the doorway. it was already fairly packed once we arrived, but they were able to accommodate our party of eight.

i knew we were probably going to be in trouble when our wait person repeatedly told us that it was her first day on the job. she proceeded to tell us her life story as if i was interested, yet knew absolutely nothing about the menu.

we began with a few appetizers which came out sporadically. what i really didn't understand is that they seemed to be unable to carry more than one item at a time. haven't they heard of trays?

judging from the patrons there, it was obvious that this was more for the bohemian crowd who liked to bring their own wine to enjoy. after about 20 minutes of waiting i noticed that the wait staff had not made much headway in terms of getting anyone's food on the table. people were sitting idly looking at one another as time kept ticking away. remarkably, there were a number of tables getting their food who came in and ordered long after we did. after almost an hour (thank god we ordered some appetizers to tide us over) our food came out...but not really. one dish did. about five minutes later another...and so on.

my wife and our nephew ordered the spicy shrimp salad and it was nothing more than what appeared to be a dinner salad with a few shrimp on top. seriously? the kicker was it appeared as though the kitchen cut up what was left of a head of lettuce throwing in the center and all. definitely not worth the $9.25 asking price.

we had ordered a couple of bowls of soup (the bowls are fairly large and enough for two, while the cup is very small) and had to ask for bowls, spoons, ladels, etc. it has always been my experience that whenever you order thai soup that they bring out some rice. this we had to ask for as well. aside from that, all the other orders were fairly tasty.

we overheard the wait staff ask a patron at another table once her food finally came out, "well, was it worth the wait?" she shook her head and said firmly, "no." she was right. the service was horrible and no one there seemed to care.

the manager brought out the bill and brazenly placed it on the table without so much as an apology for the poor service and time it took to prepare. i surveyed the bill and requested that my wife's salad be removed since she refused to eat a "side" salad at an entree price. and would you believe, they charged us for the rice? i looked at her with complete contempt and asked if she was serious? she removed that as well.

while the food might be tasty, the service ranks as some of the worst i have ever experienced and we eat out a lot. i venture to guess that the preponderance of positive reviews fromsukhothaicome from people who are doing take-out and don't suffer the agonizing wait.

i can't see how this restaurant has received such a high ranking. someone should call zagat to have their "zagat rated" decal scraped and removed from their entrance door. the woman at the other table was right, the food is not worth the wait and aggravation. the first part of this restaurant's name sums up what their service is all about..."suk".

absolutely delicious. every item i've tried on my numerous visits tosukhothaihave been delicious. however, their best dish imho is the beef with basil. i've ordered it at other thai restaurants but no one makes it like sukhothai. service depends on who you get. the staff seems nice but the lady who runs the place can sometimes come off as stern.

great eats. i eat atsukhothaion a regular basis.
great food, and awesome service every time.
you get a lot of food for the price, and every dish is always very exciting to try.
i recommend pad kiew waan to anyone who can't make a choice their first visit!
overall, excellent! way to go guys!

great thai!. i have dined here many of times and it is always great.
i cannot comment on the wine or cocktails, because i do not order any alcoholic beverages here. i save that for more relevant dining environments.
instead, i can say that the food is fresh, spiced enough, and authentic.
i love the coconut rice which always adds a wonderful extra bit of fragrance to every dish.
for dessert i always order the bananas and black thai sticky rice.
however there was one major disappointment this evening!
first i must explain that i love papaya salad! i have had thai papaya salad all over the continent . however, this was the first time i had someone willing to share the papaya salad with me atsukhothaiand i wish that we had never ordered it. what a disappointment. it tasted as if the papaya had been soaking in the dressing for days. it was soggy and there was no crunch. frankly it tasted old. the peanuts were not even good!
this is too bad and i hope that they remedy this.
i will be back again but not for the papaya salad.

if you’re looking for a solid thai restaurant that is centrally located and is also large enough to accommodate large parties, sukhothaiis for you. the restaurant is clean, modern and well laid out. the best part aboutsukhothaiis the menu is comprehensive and the food quality is good.

i have been coming tosukhothaifor many years. my definite favorites is their massaman curry and their stuffed chicken wings. service is always prompt and the kitchen keeps up even when they are busy in the restaurant or inundated with skip orders.

the only issue i have about this place is the parking. you’re pretty much relying on street parking unless you show up at 11:30 for lunch!

sukhothai has been a staple for me for the last 10 years and i can honestly say it hasn't changed at all (thankfully!).i'm a big fan of their beef pad siew, i get it at 7 spicy and it's just the right amount of heat (if you like things mild i'd recommend sticking around 5-6 at the most). this dish is always consistent and might be my favourite noodle dish they make.  i personally really like the pad thai and was the dish that originally got me hooked on this place way back when... i'm sorry to hear not everyone can say the same.their rice rolls and shrimp spring rolls are also always a good choice along with their keaw krob pouh ath (basically their take on a crab rangoon).  the mango salad and tom yum soup are also great choices for starters... get vermicelli noodles to add into your soup!as for their stirfry dishes - i'm a big fan of the cashew and the lemongrass pad puck - make sure you order rice on the side.i get that thai restaurants are a dime a dozen these days but i truly feel likesukhothaicares about their customers.  it's always my go to place for thai food and i've never been disappointed.  they do right by their customers and if they ever make a mistake, they are quick to fix it no questions asked.there's a reason this place is nearly always busy 6 days a week.

the pad si ew was quite good; just the right heat level for me at 10.  however, the lettuce wrap w/beef was quite disappointing as the beef was large flat somewhat bland pieces on a skewer.  i much prefer the spicy ground beef version from other thai restaurants.  both items had decent portion sizes.  at this point, i much prefer bankok thai, but i may try a few othersukhothaidishes in the future.

i love sukhothai. i normally order mee krob and pad kee wan(green curry dish) . coconut rice is great. always ask for peanut sauce, best in the city forsure. i have tried magic thailand, thaibochi, vietainne and a few other places ..but i still find myself in love withsukhothaithe most. i normally dont eat in,but have mine delivered from skip the dishes or mobile matridee. highly addicted to this place. my boyfriend almost hates that i order it at least 3 times a month for the past 5 years!!...but i crave it!

first time here and it was a nice experience. ordered their chicken pad thai, crab rangoon (deep fried wonton wrappers with crab and cream cheese inside) and thai ice tea.

pad thai - it's good but could use more flavour. the serving was big, could serve 2-3 people. nothing special though. i still prefer bangkok thai's pad thai

crab rangoon - order came with around 8 pieces which is not bad for it's price. it came with a side of sweet & a little bit source fish sauce(?) with chilis on it which is good to balance the flavour. could use more fillings though. i mean for it's price, i was expecting more from it.

thai ice tea - just $3 and it didn't disappoint.

all in all, sukhothaihas a great atmosphere and the restaurant was really clean and relaxing. but their food prices are a little bit expensive compared to other thai places like bangkok thai.

the best place for thai food in winnipeg!!!.sukhothaiis by far one of the best restaurants in the city, and not just for thai food! i have eaten here and gotten take away many, many times and have never once been disappointed. their sangria is on point! absolutely love it!! the servers and staff are all very friendly. the prices are more than reasonable, especially for the quality of food you're getting! so fresh and flavorful. you can tell they really care about the food they are serving. i bring all my friends here and will continue to for many years to come! great restaurant and amazing thai food! easily one of my all time favorites.

awesome awesome awesome!. i do pick up at least twice a month and have yet to have a bad order! their soups are awesome, their curries are excellent (especially the panang). beef salad is the best in the ottawa region. all the haters are probably from the downtown core where the thai food is bland!sukhothaiis one of a few great thai restaurants in eastern ontario!

wonderful. i have celiac disease, so eating out at asian restaurants can be a bit daunting for me.sukhothaihas been one of the most comfortable and delicious experiences i've ever had. i go there at least once a month, because almost the entire menu is open to me, and the food is just incredible for a great price. yes the staff can be slightly aloof, but it has never ruined the experience for me. the coconut rice is to die for.
