overall - sugar 'n' spice wasn't shockingly great - but it was good. it's very cute and i'd definitely go back. i think it's the kind ofplacethat is consistent and probably has something that you'll think is awesome - just wasn't either of these items.

great breakfast. those who think they might be a little rude you might be right but think of it as the "spice" part of sugar and spice. enjoyed our first visit. hubby and i shared an omelette, he had a stack of 4 pancakes and i had 2... they are so good.placecould use better cleaning in areas but other than that's it's amazing!

great!. i can't believe i have lived my entire life in cincinnati and have never been to sugar n' spice until about a month ago. we headed over to the parkside cafe in walnut hills but it was closed for easter. i remembered my coworker mentioning a little pinkplaceon reading so we decided to check it out. there was no wait which was nice. there was so much that looked good on the menu we decided to try a few different things. my friend had the steak and eggs and a side of goetta. i had the breakfast special (eggs, pancakes, choice of meat) and home fries. the pancakes were awesome! my friend's steak was cooked perfectly, he never seems to have much luck when it comes to that! i don't eat pork so i was very happy that they offer turkey sausage. everything was great and we will definitely be back, there is much more we'd like to try.

sugar ‘n spice food review.

there is just something about these pancakes. my husband and i have been coming to thisplacefor years, it never even occurred to me to review this restaurant. its a neighborhood gem! either way, we headed in for takeout saturday morning and got food. i ordered the special: 2 wispy thin pancakes, eggs & bacon and my mr got a full order of wispy thins and bacon. they were ready pretty quick and we were on our way. we typically eat in and they are always crazy busy but the staff is great about serving and attending to everyone and even making folks feel special. one reason i don’t love to take breakfast to go is that it cools quickly, but my mr is the take out king, lol! our food was still hot when we got home, so it must have came straight off the griddle! the pancakes were hot and delicious and i was happy i could use homemade syrup on my wispy thins. no shade to theirs, but i make a mean buttered syrup, lol! our bacon was exceptional. had us wondering what kind it was, we want more! my eggs were cheesy and dense, just like i like them. i love how eating at s 'n s is like eating at my grandmother’s house!

saw thisplaceon talk of town and had to visit. this is the best breakfast that cincinnati has to offer. the prices are reasonable about $10-12 for specialty omelettes. i got the mexican omelette and it was cooked to perfection and was ready in about 10 minutes. you will not be disappointed by this place. will be going back soon.

thisplaceis crazy busy on the weekends but the food is so worth it! i love to stop in on a day off during the week and sit right down. i have had the pancakes which are thin and yet fluffy. i have had the hash and eggs and loved it. and of course the omelets! just stuffed with what you order and cooked to perfection! and the servers are very nice! is it too silly to mention the little ducks?!?

you can't miss thisplaceif you happen to drive by, what with the exterior painted in pepto-bismol pink

pretty decent restaurant for breakfast, and very popular on the weekends.  i would not recommend the corned beef hash, as that appears to come fresh out of a can, but i would recommend their so-called "wispy thin' pancakes, as those are pretty darned good.

seating is kinda limited and very tightly spaced

hidden gem. i was looking for something different for breakfast. urbanspoon had 95% of folks liking sugar n' spice, so i decided to try it. we drove about 1/2 hour from the east side of cincinnati, and we had an awesome breakfast! since it was our first time, we weren't sure what to get. our server recommended that my daughter and i split an omelette and an order of pancakes (the two most popular things on the menu for breakfast). the food definitely did not disappoint! the pancakes were thin and tasty (just the way i like them). we had the not-so-kosher omelette, and wow - it rocked! the omelette was huge and splitting it was a good recommendation. our server made sure we picked a duck before we left (be sure to ask about the ducks)! i loved thisplaceand will definitely be back!

sugar n spice: not so nice. i used to like this place, but had not been for a long time. today, i returned and experienced inexcusably horrible service. there were plenty of servers, but they spent most of their time fraternizing with a customer seated close to me at the counter. i had been greeted promptly with “how many? just you? coffee” (yes, just me and “no” to coffee.) she returned to deliver a menu and that was it for about ten minutes of watching the servers alternately chat with my neighbor.

i hate feeling like an inconvenience, but finally called over to one of the servers to ask toplacean order. “i was waiting for your waitress to take your order.” (well, that made two of us.) finally “my” waitress returned from an extended engagement elsewhere and when directed to take my order, she responded with a mild confrontation. i should have left at that point, but nevertheless proceeded to order a blt, which was delivered shortly by “my” waitress. it was a small sandwich, presented unadorned and looking lost in the center of a large, otherwise naked oval platter. i had the distinct impression that they were working hard to make the food as unattractive as the service.

after eating, i was in no mood to sit around waiting for “my” waitress to deliver a check, so i proceeded to the cash register to report what i had ordered, but had to wait (once again) for the cashier to round up “my” waitress for a check.

needless to say, i’ll not inconvenience them ever again.

food ok, service..... lacking. firstly, i know this is not the type ofplacewhere you would expect to get good service, so keep that in mind when you read this review. i know this is not fine dining, but please read on. the food here is pretty decent. it is not as good as waffle house though. i give waffle house an a, i give sns a c. please, do not order the belgian waffle here, it is disgraceful. if a belgian ordered it they would probably cry. its really doughy and is flat out terrible. thisplacecould be good. however the two main servers there are horrible at what they do. there is the typical older lady who looks like your average granny. she calls you honey or sweetie to make you think she cares, but she does not care. all she does is take your order. try to get some ketchup, get your water refilled. see if she asks you if your food is ok or if you need anything. that will likely not happen. i have been there a dozen times and she is consistently a horrible waitress. i know they are busy there, but she can barely nail down the basics of what she should be doing. the same goes for the young girl who is always there. she seems like she has a bit of a nasty attitude. anyway, they both would never cut it in a regular/corporate restaurant. they are in a mom and pop joint and the rules are different there. some of the other people there seem nice, but the two main waitresses are awful at what they do. so some advice to them if they read this. refills, smile, check on the food quality, ask if people need anything sometimes and have a little personality, and don't stand around doing nothing. so, the gist is, the food is decent, the service is horrible. id rather go to waffle house or some other diner typeplacewhere the employees actually seem to care and give reasonably good service. i would never go back to thisplaceand i recommend you do not go either. those two are way to comfortable and set in their ways. the service is a joke.

amazing place!. this was a great experience so my review will be long, so if you hate reading, the short run is just go. don't waste any more time - go to sugar n' spice!
so thisplacehas been on my wishlist for over a year and i finally decided to drive the 20 minutes to get there. i was so glad i did. we got there around noon and there was a short wait, but nothing bad. during our wait the man next to me, named roscoe (great guy), struck up conversation telling me he was in town for a family medical emergency and drove 463 miles from south carolina. though his cousin was in the hospital, he told his family he was going to sugar n' spice. he couldn't even remember what he had the last time he came 2 years ago, which was also his first time, but he just remembered it was so good that if he was ever back in town he was going, so there he was with 3 of his brothers. i had a feeling that if thisplacemade that great of an impression then it must be great.

a few minutes later a guy in his mid-20's came by to pay his check up front and smiled and said 'this is how they treat you here', and proceeded to show us his to-go box and a small rubber ducky in which the staff wrote something to the effect of being a wimp for not finishing his meal. we all had a pretty good laugh about it. minutes later steven, the owner/manager, came by to offer a mini cupcake while we waited. it was a yellow cake with cookies and cream icing that tasted just like an oreo. it was good and sweet, and i began thinking i already love thisplaceand i have not even been seated yet.

we were seated at the counter and quickly noticed the staff is pretty relaxed. they had friendly banter with each other and were nothing but polite to the customers. around that time steven came around to make sure we had one of the mini cupcakes and then asked if we got a duck. he produced a bucket and started showing us the variety of small ducks for us to choose from. we picked our favorites and while waiting for the food we had a few conversations with him. he is pretty on top of their facebook page and their reviews online, which is always great to see from a manager. it shows they are aware and concerned of how they are perceived. the ducks and cupcakes were a nice bonus (and we noticed he was offering these to every new person that was seated, but i'm not sure if they do cupcakes every day) and it just shows how such a little thing can go such a long way. something so inexpensive can make aplacethat much more intriguing and fun. steven really seems to know what he's doing to keep aplacefresh and interesting after being in business over 70 years. i think that's a big part of the staff morale as well.

ok, enough bragging about the fun stuff. i ordered my favorite - 2 eggs over medium, home fries, toast, and goetta. my wife had the daily special - peaches french toast and a side of sausage links. the french toast was very tasty topped off with powdered sugar and tender peach slices. peaches are not in season yet, so i image they were jarred or canned, but they still tasted fantastic. they were warm and sweet and paired well with the french toast. as my wife said, you didn't even need syrup (although it did come on the side). my goetta was great and my eggs were a perfect over medium. the whites looked gorgeous and fluffy and the yolks were still warm and runny. perfect! it's incredible how many places screw up something so simple as eggs, so i always appreciate when places do it right. the big surprise was the home fries. not only was there a large amount of them, but they were actually very well seasoned. many places do not even season them!

their menu was very impressive for aplaceonly open 7-3 every day. i was happy to see favorites like steak and eggs, but also many great looking dishes, such as chicken wings and waffles (made with a sweet potato waffle) and omelets the size of a huge burrito (which they also serve). they are known for their wispy thin pancakes though. they name is right. they are like thick crepes but taste better than any buttermilk pancake i have ever had (while waiting steven brought one out for us to try). you don't even need much syrup, but i do not recommend skipping it. they make their own and it is sweet with a good maple flavor that compliments the pancake's own natural sweetness perfectly. i don't know if these perks are something they do all the time, but i certainly appreciated it, and i am fairly certain my next visit i will order an omelet and a single wispy thin pancake on the side. mmm.

you would be a fool to pass thisplaceup based on the 1950's pink exterior and teal accents. do not make the same mistake i made and wait over a year to check thisplaceout. you will not regret going. i guarantee you're going to have a good time, and an even better meal.

best breakfastplacearound. my wife has been dying to take me here and we finally had a chance today and it was better than expected. not one thing was missing from this great breakfast. the service was excellent, i loved the decor and the food is as good as the rest of the reviewers say it is.

the omlete is huge but so fluffy and light. i love pancakes and these were just as they describe them whispy thin and yummy. good goetta and tasty coffee.

we were lucky no waiting this morning but i would wait to eat here without a doubt and will be back many more times in the future.

what a blast (from the past)!. as we are making our way through the restaurants here on urbanspoon, we were looking for a new brunch place. thisplacepopped up and off we went. i had passed the multi-colored building hundreds of times. i was never sure what to make of it...inside seats a breakfast playland of sorts.the artistic mural graffiti on the walls is super fun! there is 'nostalgia' placed right where you don't expect it. since 1941, they have been serving up yummy goodness! the omelettes are huge and the sides are fantastic. the plates and platters are very satisfying. the 'whispy thin' pancakes are amazing! great coffee too!
the wait to be seated was about 30 minutes. there is an original bar to sit (which now appears as 'retro') and then several booths in which to sit...and i mean only several. although the wait is long, the now and not original owner, steve frankel, makes sure to hand out piping hot chocolate cheesecake squares...fresh out of the oven. (...good idea steve...) a little square f heaven. steve was very personable and is in the trenches with his very efficient and hard working staff. thumbs up on this breakfast spot and apparent institution in the city! when i 'posted' with photo that i was there, i had approximately 12 hits in under 10 minutes of clients and friends stating that they love this place. enough said, when you are "liked" on facebook, you've made it.lol!!!
