stone mad pub, restaurant and bocce

did not like. awful service. bartender was so displeased that the pub was packed with people on a tuesday night using their groupons like i was. we were ignored, had slow service. the mussels were good, but the $9 hamburger was super bland (and it didn't come with any sides). too bad they showed the customers, who should have been getting good service to make sure they would return, that this was aplacewith crummy service and bland food.

probably better off just skipping this one all together. patio very nice, decor is amazing. we came here for my sisters birthday, we had 12 people in our party, had the whole dining room to ourselves. there was only one server on and no other guests on this very slow night. from start to finish it took is 3 hours to be served and they don't split checks if there are more than 10 people. he originally said he would split it 3 ways for us but when it came time to pay it was only one check! so we spend 400 dollars and you make us do all the math splitting what everyone had. i finally go to a "manager" but she tells me to wait while she collects all the sugar off the patio. then is rude when i asked why they just couldn't split the checks. she finally agrees to split them but tells us it's going to take a very long time. she wasn't kidding because 30 min later my family finally got to leave. finally found out the "manager" was the owner. wow if that's how you run a business i am shocked your still open. probably just because of the cool decor. the owner originally sat us and never once came to see how everything was. the shame is thisplacehas great potential but lacks anything that is in the guests best interest. they don't have a website, charge . 50 for steak sauce on a burger that is tasteless, they don't have bottled ketchup, mustard or mayo! how cheap can you be?? lastly the customer is always right don't get into a argument with the guest because they want you to do your job and provide a service, because just a reminder you are in the service industry!

i went yesterday with my family. i heard great things about the restaurant and was looking forward to a wonderful meal. i was disappointed in the service it took a long for our meals to be served and the waitress forgot toplacemy husbands order. my salmon blt was ok disappointed with the apple fennel coleslaw too heavy on the mayo. others in my party ordered the shrimp. they said it was good but at 17.00 and only 4 shrimp was not worth the price. others in my party ordered the burgers and they said they were very good. one person raved about the crab chowder however the shepards pie was disappointing a little on the dry side not very flavorful and did not have a crispy top as described on the menu. would i return probably not. i would tell my friends to stick to the burgers.

special little place. i took my fiance and parents to stone mad pub last night for dinner for the first time. we were greeted at the door by a very gregarious and humorous gentleman who showed us who to talk to about our reservation and even opened the door for us. we checked out the outdoor patio, which is gorgeous, before being seated at our table inside. theplaceis just beautiful. i've been looking for an irish feeling pub since sullivan's in lakewood closed, and stone mad fits the bill decor-wise. sadly, the menu isn't really irish, but the food was excellent. my parents had the brisket sandwich, which they raved about. i had the smoked pork chop which was quite tasty, but what really stole the show was the sauteed red cabbage that comes with it. everyone at the table tried it and we were all incredulous that anyone could make red cabbage taste that sultry and amazing. we also ordered a pizza to nibble on and take home since they have a stone pizza oven, and that too was delicious. our waitress was super nice and attentive, even though it was fairly busy. i would definitely go back, maybe on a week night when it's hopefully a little slower and i can get on the adorable bocce court they have in the back room!

outstanding!!!!!!!. had dinner there last night and i was blown away with how good it was. we had the cod sandwich, home fries, salmon sandwich and mac and cheese. we also started it off with an order of crab cakes. everything was very good. the crab cake was to die for and the rest of the meal was perfect. they also have a great beer selection. i have to say that i thought there service was very good as well. we got last minute reservations and our server could not have been nicer. she helped us with the menu and made suggestions that were greatly appreciated. i will go back again! you should check thisplaceout too.

still can’t get it right... pizza was horrid… burger excellent.. brisket dry.. never mind that the service was slow and inattentive – it flirted with being discourteous… in this area of the growing historic gordon theater district – you better be special or dry trying – thisplaceis simply dying… take a pass there are better options

not again anytime soon..!!. quirky irish pub with a sandstone patio - same owner as the tree house in tremont. and, i do mean sandstone as everything is made of sandstone from the seats to the tables. menu is limited but has selections that most folks can find something on. there was six of us and we had a mix of three 12 ounce burgers and three beef brisket with potatoes as sides. let's start with the brisket - nicely done, moist and very tasty with what may have been fresh horseradish on the side. regrettably, the burgers were not so good, all were ordered medium - sadly, not one was delivered to the table that way - all were well done and i do mean well..! this was after waiting in the sun on the patio for about 50 minutes for our food. we told the waitress and got an "oh really, wow" type response - she looked at my burger and said "you're right". but, never did anything whatsoever. since 3 were enjoying their meals we all just decided to push on - really what other choice do you have in a larger group - but it would have been nice had someone higher up visited our table to discuss the situation. the potatoes were more mushy than crisp and had little to no taste. the chocolate bocce ball desert was fantastic and we shared three of them around the table. still with the over cooked food, lack of attention to the table coupled with a laissez-faire attitude of the staff - a return visit is highly unlikely anytime soon. eat well..!!

good first impression. my husband and i walked down to stone mad on a whim after a film at the capitol theatre. we'd heard about it, both good and bad, so we were expecting very little.
we arrived at a little after 9 pm and were happy to find that they were still seating customers.
the menu was small but the choices covered every category. the large table of young people next to us ordered crab cakes and calamari and sounded very pleased with their selection. we ordered the pound of mussels as an appetizer and were very happy with the freshness. the bit of fresh tomato and onion in the white wine and garlic sauce added color and flavor to the dish. we had the saturday special of a 12 oz. prime rib and baked potato with green beans. very standard fare for the cleveland area, but the green beans were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were large, flakey, and had a good amount of garlic-and-herb butter on them. the meat came just as we had ordered it and was fork tender. we asked for horseradish but didn't really use it because seasoning was right on the money.
our waitress was helpful and, in fact, we got help from several of the wait staff. if thisplacehad a problem with service before, they've obviously worked hard to change that.
we'll go back and take friends.

what a let down. i made reservations for 8 a week in advance. we were seated, with no one else in the restaurant, at an extremely tight table where no one could move or get by. the bartender, waitress and calamari were top-notch....and that's it. totally over-priced items for tasteless cod and trout, brisket that tasted like a grizzled pot roast, hamburgers that were blaise and soup (which was actually good) served room temp. with no bread or crackers. most sides were alacarte and you could have skipped them entirely except for the brussel sprouts. theplaceis nice but he really needs to get someone who knows how to cook. won't be back thank-you.

change some things. theplaceis beautiful, drinks are good and that is what i would go there for. the owner likes his drinks and more drinks and the lady that is in charge is his baby sitter, i will leave it at that. the guy at the door, lets just say puff puff.... he can help you out.... sit there long enough and watch you can see alot. i hope they change their menu somewhat and the hamburgers come out the way you order them, how hard is it to make a hamburger come on.

pleasantly pleased!!. i signed up for groupon and the deal of the day was a coupon for stone mad. i have been in the summer for cocktails only. i thought why not buy the coupon. i was reluctant to go for dinner since i have read so many poor reviews regarding the food. i must say it was great!! we had the mussels and baked brie. both fabulous. for dinner i ordered the pasta with meatballs and my husband ordered brisket. both excellent. the presentation was good and the staff attentive. i would recommend this restaurant to my friends. we all were very happy with our experience! please give it a go. btw...theplacewas packed so i can only guess we were not the only patrons that were happy!

stone mad delivers - most of the time.. the decor inside and out at this venue is wonderful! fantastic attention to details, such as the black walnut paneling in the bar, chihuly light fixtures, etc. - and while this is important, it appears that the kitchen at times lacks the attention to detail one would expect from any restaurant, especially one that is not inexpensive.

i have had a selection of things from the limited menu, and the beef brisket does not disappoint. it is moist, delicious, and worth the price! the hamburgers on the other hand were overdone on two occasions, and the potatoes are nothing to write home about. drink selection was good, and the white sangria with fresh fruit is a treat on a hot summer evening on their patio!

if you go for drinks and sample food items, you should be fine. for aplacelike this to really shine, though, the kitchen needs to put out more consistently delicious food!
