the cod fish fry was so greasy and flavorless. thelobsterbisque was like water with old bay seasoning not a speck oflobsterorlobsterflavor. the wait is insane which is to be expected at the market but why go here? i guess it’s fresh.... so maybe shop here but avoid dining.

rude service, mediocre food. if you enjoy your mediocre seafood and fake cajun food with a side of rude service and thinly veiled threats, this is your place.

i've been going here for years, primarily for lunch but also to pick up fish, lobsterand crab to use in my cooking. this afternoon i stopped by to quickly pick up somelobstertails. the area is under a great deal of construction as part of the 794 reconstruction so parking was worse than usual. after circling the block a number of times i noticed that there was a temporary loading zone occupying 5 street parking places just east of st. paul fish. i slid in there knowing that i would be less than five minutes and i could see the car from the counter.

as we walked in a guy from st. paul said "just so you know they will tow you..." i indicated that we'd be less than five minutes. i grabbed mylobstertails and while paying this guy who indeed works at, manages or maybe even owns st. paul starts to be combative with me about the parking issue. he now says that he calls a tow truck on anyone who parks there as he needs the spot for deliveries. i ask how often do they get deliveries and whether wouldn't it be wiser to just double park them in favor of helping your own customers. at this point the guy starts arguing with me and screaming at me! as i'm giving him my money and my business he is actively threatening me. as we leave he shouts, "thanks clay" (he doesn't know my name, this was just a method of intimidating me).

i've endured your thin, watery, flavorless chowder, your poorly made 'po boys, dirty oil fries and fried fish, and your brutally slow and rude service for years but guess what, it won't be a problem anymore. you just lost a customer over five minutes of parking - i'll also be telling anyone i can both personally and across social media.

who would call tow trucks on their own customers? how often do you really need five prime parking spaces for deliveries to this tiny business? is it really worth losing customers over your personal preference to reserve these spots all day (even saturday night)?!

btw, i just read a few reviews and i believe steve from chicago's 1-star review ranting about bad service is talking about the same guy!

best seafood in milwaukee. i have been coming to this spot for years, and was frustrated to see the poor and mediocre reviews. first, i must say, that is place is my go-to place for seafood, no matter what i am craving. i eat here at least twice a month. it is easily one of the most popular spaces in the milwaukee public market, so with their limited seating and small kitchen, it can get very busy at times. they have a counter along the oyster bar, a small seating area for more of a restaurant experience, a to-go counter, as well as an outdoor oyster bar counter and seating area in the summer months. like i said, this place is popular (and with good reason) so if you go on a weekend or during the lunch or dinner rush, be prepared to wait a little longer than usual for your food.
all of their seafood is fresh, and they really have expanded their menu in the last few years. the oysters are flown in fresh daily, with an ever changing selection. they range in price from $1 to $2.50 depending on the type. their soups are made from scratch and delicious! thelobsterbisque is my favorite, and their new england clam chowder is a close second. the fried calamari can be a little greasy, but it is fresh and the breading is light and flavorful. the $13.95lobsterdinner is hard to complain about. a whole 1 lb. fresh steamed lobster, butter, fries and coleslaw all for under $14, every day. thelobsterroll is more of a “lobster salad” served on a traditional bun and grilled. it is also served with fries and coleslaw. after having a “real”lobsterroll while visiting maine, this one lost a little of my respect, but it is still delicious and i get it often. i also recommend the catfish po’boy and the perch fish fry, both of which are delicious. the fish tacos are hands down my favorite fish tacos in milwaukee. it consists of 2 generously sized fish tacos, a bag of chips, and coleslaw or a pickle, and on tuesday’s it is only $5.00. when it is in season, they also have a whole, fried, soft-shelled crab sandwich, which was excellent! i can't wait until it is back on the menu, as i have been craving it for months.
to top everything off, they offer a decent selection of beer and wine and also have daily dinner specials, which includes fish tacos for $5.00 on tuesdays, an entire pound of king crab legs, butter, fries and coleslaw for $14.95 on wednesdays (i have been meaning to try this for a while) and 2 for 1 blue point oysters on thursdays. they also offer a fish-fry special on fridays. last tuesday i stopped in for a quick dinner and had a lakefront ipa, a cup of thelobsterbisque, and the fish tacos. my bill came out to $11.63! you really cannot beat that price for fresh seafood and a beer!
finally, i must comment on the service, as it seems that every other review complained about it. i have never, ever had a problem with the service, and have always had friendly and helpful servers. you must realize that they have extremely limited seating and get very busy, and people at the milwaukee public market mistake their tables for “general seating” at the market, meaning that people buy food from other stands in the market, and then try and sit at their tables to eat it. yes, if you bring food from another stand and sit at their tables, they will ask you to move. yes, if you are sitting at a 4-top with 2 people and a 2-top is available, they might ask you to switch. however, they do their best to accommodate and like i said, i have never had any complaints.
all in all, this is a great place, and a must try if you are visiting the area or in the mood for seafood!

disappointing. the food is good, not great but overpriced. very disappointed in oyster po'boy andlobsterroll bread. it's too soft and gets soggy and sloppy before the first bite - a bit like an oversized hotdog bun with a gummy texture. i miss the grouper sandwiches and fresh seafood from my florida home and adopted texas gulf coast home, so i had high hopes for this restaurant but was dissatisfied on each visit. i also detected a bit of attitude toward diners from some of the staff. sadly, it's not worth another trip for me.

seriously, this may be the most affordablelobsterin milwaukee. and when i say affordable, i don’t mean cheap. this is well prepared freshlobsterthat will satisfy even the most discerning of palettes. thelobsteris served with fries and coleslaw and will certainly leave diners wanting to return for more.

4. live mainelobsterdinner (13.95 usd): one pound steamed mainelobsterserved with fries and coleslaw. what a deal onlobster- fourteen bucks! thelobsterwas absolutely delicious and wholly satisfying. the french fries were fine, on the other hand, the coleslaw was lackluster.

milwaukee's best seafood. i've been to both coasts, and i realize that we milwaukeeans are never going to eat incredible top-of-the-line seafood in this city... but st. pauls comes close.

i had a public market gift card and my girlfriend and i finally gave this place a try. the highlight was thelobsterroll. i love lobster, but i'm lazy and find most shellfish very unattractive when still in their shell. so i usually go with alobsterroll. this one was excellent. not too "mayo-ey" and the toasty warm bun really added a lot to the sandwich - and there were big chunks oflobsterin there. loved it - i will be getting this again.

we also split a crab melt sandwich. that was good as well, but not as flavorful. usually i'm not one to complain about too much cheese, but the large amount of cheese on the sandwich overpowered the crab taste. it also made the sandwich a little too salty. i give the crab melt a 6/10 and thelobsterroll a 9/10 rating.

my only gripe is that we got a crab cake appetizer that cost $9 - and it was only one crab cake that was kinda small. i thought it tasted excellent, but i really think you should get two of them for that price. from the looks of the other reviews here, i need to come on a tuesday to get the two-for-one appetizers.

for milwaukee - this is great seafood.

my kind oflobsterdinner. i've been to st. paul's a few times now and am always happy with what i get. i've tried one of the fish po boys, every oyster they offer, and i recently finally made the step up to the $12.95lobsterdinner. i've never been disappointed. whenever a good college friend is in town (who is much more a foodie than i) we usually meet up at st. paul's for some oysters and schlitz. from there we work our way around downtown and the 3rd ward on an appetizer crawl. always good fun. highly recommend it.
