best seafood in milwaukee. i have been coming to this spot for years, and was frustrated to see the poor and mediocre reviews. first, i must say, that is place is my go-to place for seafood, no matter what i am craving. i eat here at least twice a month. it is easily one of the most popular spaces in the milwaukee public market, so with their limited seating and small kitchen, it can get very busy at times. they have a counter along the oyster bar, a small seating area for more of a restaurant experience, a to-go counter, as well as an outdoor oyster bar counter and seating area in the summer months. like i said, this place is popular (and withgoodreason) so if you go on a weekend or during the lunch or dinner rush, be prepared to wait a little longer than usual for your food.
all of their seafood is fresh, and they really have expanded their menu in the last few years. the oysters are flown in fresh daily, with an ever changing selection. they range in price from $1 to $2.50 depending on the type. their soups are made from scratch and delicious! the lobster bisque is my favorite, and their new england clam chowder is a close second. the fried calamari can be a little greasy, but it is fresh and the breading is light and flavorful. the $13.95 lobster dinner is hard to complain about. a whole 1 lb. fresh steamed lobster, butter, fries and coleslaw all for under $14, every day. the lobster roll is more of a “lobster salad” served on a traditional bun and grilled. it is also served with fries and coleslaw. after having a “real” lobster roll while visiting maine, this one lost a little of my respect, but it is still delicious and i get it often. i also recommend the catfish po’boy and the perch fish fry, both of which are delicious. the fish tacos are hands down my favorite fish tacos in milwaukee. it consists of 2 generously sized fish tacos, a bag of chips, and coleslaw or a pickle, and on tuesday’s it is only $5.00. when it is in season, they also have a whole, fried, soft-shelled crab sandwich, which was excellent! i can't wait until it is back on the menu, as i have been craving it for months.
to top everything off, they offer a decent selection of beer and wine and also have daily dinner specials, which includes fish tacos for $5.00 on tuesdays, an entire pound of king crab legs, butter, fries and coleslaw for $14.95 on wednesdays (i have been meaning to try this for a while) and 2 for 1 blue point oysters on thursdays. they also offer a fish-fry special on fridays. last tuesday i stopped in for a quick dinner and had a lakefront ipa, a cup of the lobster bisque, and the fish tacos. my bill came out to $11.63! you really cannot beat that price for fresh seafood and a beer!
finally, i must comment on the service, as it seems that every other review complained about it. i have never, ever had a problem with the service, and have always had friendly and helpful servers. you must realize that they have extremely limited seating and get very busy, and people at the milwaukee public market mistake their tables for “general seating” at the market, meaning that people buy food from other stands in the market, and then try and sit at their tables to eat it. yes, if you bring food from another stand and sit at their tables, they will ask you to move. yes, if you are sitting at a 4-top with 2 people and a 2-top is available, they might ask you to switch. however, they do their best to accommodate and like i said, i have never had any complaints.
all in all, this is a great place, and a must try if you are visiting the area or in the mood for seafood!

i mostly enjoyed this place but being from the gulf coast of alabama, i'm a bit of a snob about seafood. i had the calamari app and a fried oyster poboy. the calamari was a bit too greasy but the texture and consistency of the breading was spot on. the oyster poboy was a bit of a disappointment but probablygoodfor the area. i found the fried oysters to be a bit mushy but the flavor was nice. could have used more romulade and the fixins were fresh. then there was the bread. probably the biggest disappointment. it was not french bread. it was too soft on the crust and not enough holes on the inside. well made french bread should have a crusty top and a bottom firm enough to hold up to the filling. my friend got the tuna sandwich and raved about it. fresh fish and very flavorful. i gave a positive review mostly based on my friend's review and my bias. i plan on returning and giving this place a second try.

milwaukee's best seafood. i've been to both coasts, and i realize that we milwaukeeans are never going to eat incredible top-of-the-line seafood in this city... but st. pauls comes close.

i had a public market gift card and my girlfriend and i finally gave this place a try. the highlight was the lobster roll. i love lobster, but i'm lazy and find most shellfish very unattractive when still in their shell. so i usually go with a lobster roll. this one was excellent. not too "mayo-ey" and the toasty warm bun really added a lot to the sandwich - and there were big chunks of lobster in there. loved it - i will be getting this again.

we also split a crab melt sandwich. that wasgoodas well, but not as flavorful. usually i'm not one to complain about too much cheese, but the large amount of cheese on the sandwich overpowered the crab taste. it also made the sandwich a little too salty. i give the crab melt a 6/10 and the lobster roll a 9/10 rating.

my only gripe is that we got a crab cake appetizer that cost $9 - and it was only one crab cake that was kinda small. i thought it tasted excellent, but i really think you should get two of them for that price. from the looks of the other reviews here, i need to come on a tuesday to get the two-for-one appetizers.

for milwaukee - this is great seafood.

my kind of lobster dinner. i've been to st. paul's a few times now and am always happy with what i get. i've tried one of the fish po boys, every oyster they offer, and i recently finally made the step up to the $12.95 lobster dinner. i've never been disappointed. whenever agoodcollege friend is in town (who is much more a foodie than i) we usually meet up at st. paul's for some oysters and schlitz. from there we work our way around downtown and the 3rd ward on an appetizer crawl. alwaysgoodfun. highly recommend it.
