best seafood in milwaukee. i have been coming to this spot for years, and was frustrated to see the poor and mediocre reviews. first, i must say, that is place is my go-to place for seafood, no matter what i am craving. i eat here at least twice a month. it is easily one of the most popular spaces in the milwaukee public market, so with their limited seating and small kitchen, it can get very busy at times. they have a counter along the oyster bar, a small seating area for more of a restaurant experience, a to-go counter, as well as an outdoor oyster bar counter and seating area in the summer months. like i said, this place is popular (and with good reason) so if you go on a weekend or during the lunch or dinner rush, be prepared to wait a little longer than usual for your food.
all of their seafood is fresh, and they really have expanded their menu in the last few years. the oysters are flown in fresh daily, with an ever changing selection. they range in price from $1 to $2.50 depending on the type. their soups are made from scratch and delicious! the lobster bisque is my favorite, and their new england clam chowder is a close second. the fried calamari can be a little greasy, but it is fresh and the breading is light and flavorful. the $13.95 lobster dinner is hard to complain about. a whole 1 lb. fresh steamed lobster, butter, fries and coleslaw all for under $14, every day. the lobster roll is more of a “lobster salad” served on a traditional bun and grilled. it is also served with fries and coleslaw. after having a “real” lobster roll while visiting maine, this one lost a little of my respect, but it is still delicious and i get it often. i also recommend the catfish po’boy and the perch fish fry, both of which are delicious. the fish tacos are hands down my favorite fish tacos in milwaukee. it consists of 2 generously sized fish tacos, a bag of chips, and coleslaw or a pickle, and on tuesday’s it is only $5.00. when it is in season, they also have a whole, fried, soft-shelled crab sandwich, which was excellent! i can't wait until it is back on the menu, as i have been craving it for months.
to top everything off, they offer a decent selection of beer and wine and also have daily dinner specials, which includes fish tacos for $5.00 on tuesdays, an entire pound of king crab legs, butter, fries and coleslaw for $14.95 on wednesdays (i have been meaning to try this for a while) and 2 for 1 blue point oysters on thursdays. they also offer a fish-fry special on fridays. last tuesday i stopped in for a quick dinner and had a lakefront ipa, a cup of the lobster bisque, and the fish tacos. my bill came out to $11.63! you really cannot beat that price for fresh seafood and a beer!
finally, i must comment on the service, as it seems that every other review complained about it. i have never, ever had a problem with the service, and have always had friendly and helpful servers. you must realize that they have extremely limited seating and get very busy, and people at the milwaukee public market mistake their tables for “general seating” at the market, meaning that people buy food from other stands in the market, and then try and sit at their tables to eat it. yes, if you bring food from another stand and sit at their tables, they will ask you to move. yes, if you are sitting at a 4-top with 2 people and a 2-top is available, they might ask you to switch. however, they do their best to accommodate and like i said, i have never had any complaints.
all in all, this is a great place, and a must try if you are visiting the area or in the mood for seafood!
