spot on kitchen & bar

overall just an average dining experience. prices seemed high but the food was generally pretty good. our server was okay but the kitchen was very slow for a moderately busy thursday night. chicken club i had wasgoodbut my wife's $15 nachos were devoid of cheese. not a restaurant i would drive in from airdrie to visit again.

overall experience was somewhere between "blah" and "ok". at 17:30 on a friday, it was surprisingly empty. server was disinterested and inattentive, and the food was too overpriced. we ordered nachos (hardly any toppings or cheese, with generic bottled salsa), and a maple burger with maple chips. dry, flavourless, tiny patty on the burger, but the maple barbecue sauce was nice (although it also seemed bottled). the maple chips soundedgoodon paper, but they had very little flavour and no salt at all. with places like wild rose and all the restaurants in marda loop nearby, i think this restaurant needs to step up their game. happy i tried something new, but my partner and i agree we won't return there.

i've been here 3 times and had mixed experiences. first time was just at the wood to have a beer and service was awful.
i'd heard so muchgoodabout the place that i decided to give it another chance.
round 2 was far better service and food excellent.
today, had lunch and food wasgoodexcept the house dressing for the house side salad was not very palatable. too strong of cheap possibly knock-off basaltic.
i'll give it a 3.5 for now and another chance another day.

food was delicious and large portions, similar to their other location at 4th spot kitchen and bar. first time here during poutine week and the service was terrible. friendly servers but very slow and not attentive. we find the same type of service at the 4th spot location and didn't have high expectations on the service front. would return however because the food isgoodbut would love to see service improve at both locations. the dining experience would be so much better if service was taken up a couple of notches...

i wanted to try the place a few times before reviewing it. i work and live in the area and quite enjoyed the food of the former local002, but would only get takeout because the service was terrible. spot on, although i find it more expensive, is definitely a step up. i have hadgoodservice on all occasions and every dish i've tried has been excellent. the only thing i haven't been a raging fan for is their pizza. i also know that they sponsored a community event within their first year or so in business and i think that's really cool.

ugh. not very good. poor service and dirty plates. not sure i would come back.goodluck to those that go here. small changes could help the place out.

before i start i would like to commend the staff because the service was actually excellent .living in the mru area there's not many local places to eat offeringgoodfood at a fair price.spot on is definitely guilty of overcharging due to location.i have eaten here twice and both times have been let down by pedestrian offerings at a heavily trumped up price .they also lack agooddiverse beer menu .should have kept the local 002 .was a much better restaurant and lounge .also plagued by uncomfortable seating and obtuse atmosphere

great new place!. i am often by mount royal university and a friend mentioned that local had recently closed so we headed over to check out the new restaurant - spot on kitchen & bar.
let's start with the food, the portions are huge, hot a ridiculously delicious. the uptown poutine is amazing, pulled pork, gravy, cheese and fries, it could be a meal on its own. the pizza was delicious, and the wine selection is fantastic.
the prices are super affordable for the quality of food and drinks that you are getting. also, the portion sizes are massive, as mentioned, so it is really worth every dollar.
the service... our server was super sweet, and was really trying to make sure we had agoodtime. she recommended a couple different wines for us to try.
lastly, the atmosphere, they did a really great job renovating, there is a lounge side and a family friendly side, which is great if you want to have a drink and hang out with besties, watch the game, or if you want to take the kidlets out for a meal that isn't at a chain restaurant.
overall, i would say that they did a great job with the reno, the food is great, and reasonably priced, and the service was good. i know we will be back!

i really wanted to like this place!. after enduring 4 long years of local 002, i was excited to try spot on, the restaurant that opened in the same location in lincoln park.

it started off great- the decor is definitely an upgrade, the servers and hostesses were very friendly, and we were seated quickly. this is much better than the service from the previous restaurant.

the food is ok- definitely nothing special. the tacos are flavoured poorly. the burgers are pretty basic; nothing to write home about. portions were appropriate and food was served warm.

our waitress was running around trying to make her 6 or 7 tables happy and for the most part did a great job. she was attentive however clearly too busy. i counted 3-4 people sitting around the hostess station often; perhaps one of them could have helped her out.

the "managers" (i use that term only to describe their job function, not in reference to anything they were actually doing), were wandering around the restaurant, not talking to anyone, and returning to either the front desk or the bar area- the male "manager" must have had a lot of texting emergencies to deal with, he spent agoodportion of the time we were there typing and surfing on his phone.

if i hadn't become so accustomed to the poor quality and service at local 002, i'd probably have said i wouldn't be back to "spot on". unfortunately, given i am very close to this restaurant, i will probably come back when i am in the mood for an average meal, and to see how management at restaurants enjoy thegoodlife, checking sports scores and their twitter feed on their phones instead of dealing with issues in the restaurant.
