sperry's is now resting on it's laurels as being one of nashville's longest and best restaurants in over 30 years. my first show was in 1971 and so i was present for its grand opening. for me and my family, it was an institution of culinary excellence and service. until now that is. last week i celebrated my son's birthday with my daughter and the experience was tragic and embarrassing. every aspect of my visit was below par and certainly not worth the $300+ that it cost us. theservicewas non-existent and the food was miserable. the entire night was a total bust. and so without going into details, i am feeling hurt and angry that such a noble enterprise should deteriorate into a sub par hack restaurant. never going back.

went for father's day late. food good as usualservicethis and the last couple of times i have been poor at best. we had to keep calling waiter for water refills, etc., he did not take care of table at all!

food great/service iffy. started with escargot. they were good sized and not over cooked. i personally would like a puff pastry on top, but just a personal preference. then i had a perfectly cooked pork chop, and my friends had filet. everything was wonderful. the coconut cake for dessert was less than desirable, but the peppermint ice cream was divine. our server was just flaky. i don't understand why higher priced restaurants are accepting less than top notch servers. the money is there, so theserviceshould be as well.

this old style steakhouse is dark and loud. theservicewas a little slow. now the good part: great steaks, crab cakes, big tasty cocktails, nice wine list which was half off the night we were there. i'd go back without hesitation.

my wife and i took my grad student son to this establshment for the 1st time this week. nice, politeserviceand the beef was cooked beautifully. the others chose prine rib and selected a ribeye cooked m-r. the ribeye was outstanding and much too generous for my middle-aged appetite. the salad bar is consistently good - enjoyed their creamy garlic dressing. fine selection of wine. we had a pleasant cab to accompany our entrees. sperry's will set you back a few bills, but it definitely is worth the trip
