southport raw bar & restaurant

great service and atmosphere! we sat at the raw bar while waiting for a table, and had oysters and drinks! for dinner we sat outside on the dock. we had the fish and chips and fish sandwich for dinner and both were delicious. would definitely recommend this place. very casual laidbackatmosphere.

we sat outbackon the porch by the dock and boats. there were plenty of fans and breeze that kept the place cool. live music on a wednesday night and quick service were excellent additions. we ordered the old bay shrimp, hot lips (fried jalapeños with cream cheese), and the dolphins tacos which were all phenomenal. if we didn't live out of state, we'd bebackevery week!

i have been coming here for years and each time the taste never fails. you definitely get your money's worth for what you pay. and you can sit at the bar, table/booth, or outbackon the dock and watch the boats

local bar with great food!. fantastic local seafood bar with cheap prices! they have oysters, clams, salads, bar food, and best of all pitchers of beer specials. they have excellent happy hour and a late night happy hour. the patio on thebacksits on the water and last time we visited we docked our boat right there. mostly locals. this place will be here forever!

disappointed. i've been to southport a number of times and this visit was particuarily disappointing. they took my order for a grilled shrimp ceasar then camebackand told me they were having issues with the kitchen and could they subsitute cocktail shrimp. as we were leaving we found out the problem there kitchen wasn't even functioning. it would have been nice to have been told that up front.

the hamburger special didn't come with fries which is not the norm for most hamburgers so it would have been nice if the server had mentioned that so we had the opportunity to order them with the meal. the hamburger was ordered with tomatos and onions, no lettuce or pickles and it came with the lettuce and pickles and no tomatos or onions.

there are alot of other restaurants to go to for lunch in the area - next time we will be going to one of them.

best dolphin sandwich in broward. best blacken dolphin sandwich i have had in years. everything about it was awesome, the bun was soft, the fish was moist, and it was spiced perfect (see pic). all i did was add a squeeze of lemon and alittle cocktail sauce and it was down the hatch. after reading some reviews, i guess i must get lucky everytime when i eat there. now if i could only hit the lotto....lol. stay hungry!

live, love, last!. this place is a throwbackto old fort lauderdale. fresh shucked oysters,shrimp with old bay, and cold beer. lets not forget good personal service. we had the conch fritters which were excellent and our friends had the oysters and shrimp (see pic). it was an orgy of food and beer capped off with me buying a southport raw bar t-shirt like a freakin tourist:) my wife and i had a blast (see pic). i forgot what a cool place this is. thebackdeck looks refurbished with a nice view looking east down the canal. you can sit inside or outside by the water and just watch time drift by. our server was pete (see pic) and he was very friendly. make sure you tell them dan sent you to eat, drink and play michael jackson on the jukebox. as always stay hungry!

laidbacklocation-nice staff. have been twice and food was good. staff is always friendly and helpful. love the location on the canal. you can boat there and dock. prices seem very reasonable for food and wine. will gobackagain. seems like a lot of locals dine here.cheers!

none better. after a successful day fishing, our captain from the lady pamela ii suggested that we take our fresh catch of mahi-mahi and tuna to the southport raw bar where they will prepare our catch for a nominal fee and include side dishes.

once we were seated by the warm and engaging host, chef matt was sent to the table to find out what kind of fish we had caught and to consult with us on how we would like the fish prepared.

after a bit of conversation we decided to turn matt loose and to use our fish to use his imagination. we were not disappointed.

we began our meal with southport's conch fritters which were by far the best we had eaten this side of grand cayman. i also tried the conch salad served gazpacho style, and i was amazed at the blend of flavors and extremely pleased with the texture and taste. we had to leave the next day to drivebackto indiana and if i had been able to freeze and pack a quart in dry ice for the trip i would have done so. the conch salad was fabulous.

the mahi-mahi was prepared conservatively for the cautious in our group. with the tuna, matt prepared it by giving us 2 versions of sashimi. the best though, was his preparation of tuna tartar which had a definite spicy kick to it. both kinds of fish were fabulous.

the sides served were enormous, delicious and were enough to share.

our overall experience with the southport raw bar was fantastic and we can't wait for our next visit to ft. lauderdale.
