what more can a biryani lover ask for. a south indian biryanis festival at southern spice attajcoromandel, nungambakkam offering nine varieties of biryanis in the a la carte menu, where along with a portion of biryani, you get a beer and a dessert too. being invited for a tasting session, we got to taste all the nine variants. the kerala recipes ruled the roost for me. 
the chef also served us some of their signature starters and they were amazing. 
the biryani festival is on for lunch as well as dinner.
good news: the festival which was supposed to end on 29th may, has now been extended for another week and will go on till june 5th on popular demand.

whatever the origin may be or whoever cooked and came up with the name for the delight of the decade, i would like to say, "i will always be grateful to you deep down my heart". and that's the kind of love i have for biryani. you can never separate us, we would stay together through thick and thin. oh! not just words but the love is genuine; could anything else make me more elated then a biryani festival? not in the wildest dreams. and when called for the tasting session at southern spice,tajcoromandel, chennai, the word biryani did the magic.

the magic of southern spice begins as you step through the temple crested doors and the plush carpet cuddles your feet tempting you to kick your shoes off as you are seated in what can only be described as a maharaja's palace or a royal court. combining the 4 states of india, the cuisine matches the decor to every step and is a feast for all the senses.
this istajhospitality at its finest best.

you cant go wrong with any of the restaurants attajcoromandel....they serve you with such great service and personal dedication that you would be bowled over...i had earlier stayed there for couple of days and when my wife was leaving, they suprised us with a goodbye cake and a grand thanks....pls look out for elvis there..young fair lad...taj service is impeccable all due to him.

taj restaurants are one of the best place to relive the local delicacy. this chain has never let me down, and always surprised with best flavour.
would like to always venture into any place oftajchain and have a best dine.

it is still managed by the veteran staff from many years. the old guard attajcoromandel still deliver outstanding hospitality. virundhu was too notch. expensive? maybe but i did not regret o e bit.

everything that you would expect from thetaj- excellent food, top notch service, and great value for money. don't get me wrong, it's not a cheap restaurant. but the service, food etc makes it absolutely worth every penny spent. shout out to bala, our server, who made it a memorable meal.
starter: chicken ghee roast
mains: rayalaseema mutton biryani, thanjavur chicken, appams.
our server bala got us a small helping of curd rice after the biryani, just because it's good to have some cooling curd rice after a hot biryani. while we procrastinated over what dessert to order and finally decided against dessert, bala still got us 2 small bowls of payasam, so that we at least got a taste. these little touches added a lot to our experience, the worth of which really cant really be calculated in rupees.

we ordered thali meals served on table.
soup was chicken pepper rasam. hot and spicy.
chicken, mutton, tiger prawns and fish starters.
typical madras meals with 2 vegetables, mutton biriyani, white rice, 3 non veg gravies, fish fry was served.
desserts - elanir payasam was out of world demanding a repeat serving. chocolate ice cream and other choices were also available.
ambience, service and hospitality spoke oftajheritage.

was put up intajfor 3 days and had been to southern spice for lunch. as i was confused about the option their staff as always helped me all the suggestions. took the fish and meat thali which i enjoyed. prices are bit on the higher side but the service and experience makes it for.

chennai's best fine dining restaurant in chennai's (arguably) best hotel. we went, the seven of us, on a monday evening and were all surprised to see that the place was at capacity on a weekday night! but once the food arrived, we quickly understood why (no food pics, note!). every single dish we ordered (attached the list as a pic haha) was outstanding. and southern spice was the rare restaurant whose service outshone the already wonderful south indian food. the vauntedtajhospitality stood heads and shoulders above competing restaurants, thanks to our delightful wait staff (special mention to ms. tamilselvi who made us, especially my grandparents, feel right at home).
make no mistake, southern spice is an expensive place. but, with a budget of 1500 on average per head, one can really experience the best of south indian hospitality.
taj coromandel and southern spice make me proud to be a chennaite.

the lunch buffet at southern spice attajcoromandel is by far one of the best buffets i have tried.

they had a wide range of food from crispy south indian dosas to north indian butter naan. biriyanis, noodles, salads, soups - you name it you get it.

the service was amazing and the ambience excellent.

overall an amazing experience!

want to rate a 4.5/5 but no option in this app! spent a night in hoteltajand went to southern spice for dinner.

the place is exquisite with impeccable staff behaviour. bala served us dinner and was supremely helpful.

complimentary appetizers (variety of papad) - 4/5

decor - 5/5 (very royal and felt like a time travel)

veg south thali - 4.5/5 (must try) the pure ghee poured into rich white grains will work out a magic. appam is too good as well

dosa - 4/5 (they dont have on menu but bala got it done for us)

hospitality of staff - 5/5 (you will be pleasantly surprised with their proativeness)

we had stayed attajcoromandel for a month and had dined at southern spice several times during the stay. 

the soothing ambience, those carved pillars and paintings, impeccable hospitality, all these draw you into such a comfort zone from the moment you are seated in.

everything on the plate is scrumptious, idiyappam, mutton chukka, fish, banana flower vada, filter coffee and even a bowl of delicious warmed rasam! 

believe me, you don’t want to waste a skerrick of your lunch! it is 'dakshin unpacked' on a nice silver plate!

the chefs here take an enormous pride in what they do, and it trickles down to the service staff. they are warm and lovely. every morsel is served with such warmth and love.

this is a place, where food is almost a religion, and here, the simple becomes the best, and in here, ingredients are selected on quality and not price. and, this restaurant epitomises all these values and delivers the meal in a relaxed and friendly way, to make it more refreshing.

the whole meal experience is enjoyable, memorable, delectable and fun. 

thank god for all these little temples of taste and excellence, life suddenly becomes more piquant.

i went totajwith my friend the food was amazing first they gave kuzhi paniyaram with 3to 4 varieties of chutni and then we ordered vanjaram fish fry,kori ghee roast ,kozhi pepper curry and parota i loved the taste of each and everything we ordered we enjoyed a lot then they gave us a peppermint shot which was grinded with the curd which was my fav 😘the price may be high but it worth 👍🏻
