southern spice - taj coromandel

one of the best authentic south indian restaurant to visit along with your family.
it’s was little overpriced but quantity & taste of food was extremelygood.
as you can feel the fresh aromas in every dish. highly recommend to visit these restaurants once for their pleasant ambience and courteous service.

everything that you would expect from the taj - excellent food, top notch service, and great value for money. don't get me wrong, it's not a cheap restaurant. but the service, food etc makes it absolutely worth every penny spent. shout out to bala, our server, who made it a memorable meal.
starter: chicken ghee roast
mains: rayalaseema mutton biryani, thanjavur chicken, appams.
our server bala got us a small helping of curd rice after the biryani, just because it'sgoodto have some cooling curd rice after a hot biryani. while we procrastinated over what dessert to order and finally decided against dessert, bala still got us 2 small bowls of payasam, so that we at least got a taste. these little touches added a lot to our experience, the worth of which really cant really be calculated in rupees.

want to rate a 4.5/5 but no option in this app! spent a night in hotel taj and went to southern spice for dinner.

the place is exquisite with impeccable staff behaviour. bala served us dinner and was supremely helpful.

complimentary appetizers (variety of papad) - 4/5

decor - 5/5 (very royal and felt like a time travel)

veg south thali - 4.5/5 (must try) the pure ghee poured into rich white grains will work out a magic. appam is toogoodas well

dosa - 4/5 (they dont have on menu but bala got it done for us)

hospitality of staff - 5/5 (you will be pleasantly surprised with their proativeness)

bala served the best payasam i ever had in any place

the feast ended with an amazing sweet paan

south indian fine dining with an old world charm. the thalis aregoodbut i would recommend trying ala carte. the kerala neimeen biryani was the most awesome seafood biryani i have had in my life.

the service is impeccable, just ask for bala who was amazing.

mind you this place is expensive and if you have drinks, ensure you have a fat wallet.

the ponni rice with arachivitta sambhar & ghee can transport you into a tamil brahmin’s house. the place is outstanding whether you do the thali or order ala-carte. this to me is a culinary journey of south india starting with the melagu rasam & cooling off with the curd rice in the end; with lots of appams & ishtew, idiyapam with kadala ghassi and neer dosa thrown in forgoodmeasure. this is the very best of south india! period.

i saw this place on zomato and i bookmarked this place bcoz of thier ambiance.

      the moment i entered wowww!!!! i could able to feel royalness of this place its like an indian palace and they welcomed us with vankam ahaaa! its alwaysgoodto be greeted by our own language the staffs are giving enough time & space to the choose the menus.

food & experience
       they have recommended to try their signature thalis but since from my chilhood i don't  like thalis so i went with biryani
briyanis
    they are having threee types of briyani from the three southern states of india mutton from andhra chicken from tamilnadu and i think fish from kerala. we had mutton and chicken one thing i was surprised is the quantity of the dishes generally in star hotels the quantities are very limited but this restaraunt is having enough amount of quantity for their price.

mamsam briyani (mutton briyani)
            its a andhra stlye mutton briyani filled with lot of mutton pieces the mutton is soft and taste of the briyani is also good.

chicken briyani (kongu style) 
          its a tamilnadu style chicken briyani the taste is verygoodand chicken is well cooked i liked the taste of this one compare to the mamsam.
         
kori kempu  
     its like a chicken 65 its crispy and yummy i enjoyed this dish its super good.

strawberry milkshake
                 the thickness of the shake is verygoodand its tasted well.        

  finally my tummy is filled with different south indian states delicacies and i was thoroughly enjoyed the food.
i can say its a typical south indian star restaraunt from language, ambience, and upto the music its literally south indian.
 
 another thing i have to mention is thier service all of them are very courteous kudos to the team superb service.

overall i would highly recommend this place for those who really likes south indian food really this restaurant will satisfies you in all aspects.

nice foood, so long time i was thinking to have food there. finally i went there yesterday. it was reallygoodin ambience and food was totally everything was twisty... i will come bach again...

good south indian food really great taste well prepared stands for its name southern spicegoodambience andgoodservice as always .every one must try once.

wonderful ambience with soothing authentic music. the place is designed in such a way that looks like a court room of a royal palace. for an upmarket south indian cuisine, this place is highly recommended. we went on tamil new year and they had a special menu for that day. food is sogoodwith all the south indian flavours attacking your taste buds from all the directions. and they served three flavoured ice cream which is worth your life. the only drawback is the service which is a bit slow, other than that this place is the best in town for a royal meal!

if you are not a local (like us) and want to try authentic and delectable dishes from this side of india, head straight to southern spice. there is absolutely nothing average about this place. from food to ambience to the service, everything is spot on. music is subtle and native, so is the lighting, with beautiful paintings and sculptures. this restaurant can be picked up for a date or for a family dinner.

we wanted to try different dishes, hence opted for the fish and meat thali. now we cannot remember most of the difficult (for us of course) names but the mutton was tender and oh so yum, so was the fish curry. rasam was flavourful with perfect amount of spices. although it was a lot ofgoodfor two people but we tried our best to justify the scrumptious meal. finally we ended our lunch with a bang with the coffee ice cream. it actually felt like having a filter coffee turned ice cream, delicious nonetheless. overall our experience at the southern spice was pleasant and we will surely come back again and again for a wholesome hearty delectable meal!

had been to this place today. it was a business event and had food at southern spice..
the ambience was a typical chettiandu household. the light music on the background was also soothing. the food wasgoodand serving was very personal.  they servegoodauthentic veg starters like paniyaram etc. overall the place was exciting. we ordered the veg thali and were served in a huge silver plate with a plantain leaf over it. the final rating are :

service 3/5 - this is only due to the time it took for serving the lunch!! otherwise all other elements were handled up close and personal.... :)

went here with colleagues for dinner. i must say the food served, right from the starters were awesome. we had picked up a set menu. they serve verygoodauthentic veg starters like paniyaram, adai etc. among the nonveg, prawn was standout. coming to the main course, mutton chukka and chicken curry were awesome. it was accompanied by kerala paratha, idiappam and a aapam, all of which were awesome. bisibele bhat and mutton biryani were too good. in fact the food was so tasty that we were confused, which one to choose. payasam and ice cream, made up the dessert. overall an awesome experience.

great ambience ,goodfood ( which is served fresh and hot ) loved each and every bit of it , must try filter coffee ice cream , taj is known for its hospitality and service so i need not comment its had always been agoodexperience for me and my family .

an absolutely fantastic experience. the flavours were just marvellous and made us enjoy it a lot.
the restaurant has a spectacular south indian architecture and a very pleasant ambience. the tables are also appropriately sized to have agoodconversation without having to raise your voice and also perfect to accommodate all the food.

the staff was quite friendly and made us feel welcome and also recommended some great food choices. a true taj experience... makes you feel proud to showcase a fantastic indian culinary experience to an expat colleague in a truly indian hotel.

i'd recommend going here with family as well as on your business dinners.
