won't go again. the salad bar was not well kept up, empty bowls and the selection was boring. some items tastes bad, as is in "old" and not rotated properly. the serving utensils were dirty.soupdid not seem fresh, had it been sitting in the warmer since lunch? no buns or butter (buns were finally brought out). we all ordered the prime rib. my prime rib was badly overdone, my companions was done right but cold, the other 2 people in our group said theirs was fine. by the time the server came see "how everything was" i sent mine back and had it removed from the bill as the rest of our party was almost done and i didn't want to wait and then eat my dinner alone while they waited. i thought i would enjoy desert as i was still hungry.... wrong! dairy queen makes better desserts. don't waste your time going to this restaurant. i certainly won't go there again.

smuggler's is always great. their extensive salad bar is a great place to start a meal. with lots to choose from you can easily fill yourself up before you even get your entree. don’t forget to try the steaksoupand bread sticks at the other complimentary bar. i love me some meat and smugglers is one of the best places to eat it. it is high quality and always cooked to perfection. their prime rib is the best you can get anywhere and their deserts are tough to beat. an easy 5 star every time.

so bad. we had dinner there last night and it was the most disappointing meal we had ever had. first the drinks were so watery that they had no taste. order 1. the cajun chicken and the coating on the chicken just tasted salty not cajun at all and franks red hot on the side does not make it cajun. order 2 i had the parmesan encrusted steak, i asked to med well and got medium rare, it was all pink, and the parmesan on the steak was so bad, it was not real parmesan, it looked and tasted like the kraft parmesan in a can! scraped that off. now the salad bar, was again very sad, and the cold onionsoup(a powder mix & greasy not homemade.) the peppers in the salad bar still had he labels stuck on them,so how good were they washed! i love salad bar when everything looks fresh and clean! yours did not impress!
the waiter still got a $30.00 tip as the gift certificate was for a $100 dollars but we will not be going back and will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. also the bakery buns donot taste like fresh bread when you use a ready made bun, that taste like the pillsbury dough buns. everything there tasted as if it was all processed food nothing was fresh made.

came here on friday for dinner. quite busy but we had made reservations online and were seated right away even though we were 15min early. we come here about once a month as the food quality is always consistently good

we started with their all you can eat salad bar - great selection; on this night though when something ran out it took awhile to get replenished. kids loved the steaksoupand came back for more helpings. they usually have onesoupthat is different and today it was french onion - my favourite; i topped it with cheese and croutons from the salad bar and it tasted as good as you can get anywhere.

wife and i had the prime rib sandwich - medium rare. cooked to perfection. had to go with the spicier horseradish as the one that came with it is a bit mild. i also got mac n cheese on the side for my little one. my eldest got the chicken fingers which she didn't eat much of as she was full of salad and soup. nice to see they have a kids meal finally.

food was great as per usual. this used to be our place to go for a fancy meal but it's actually pretty reasonably priced. other places for our family of 4 can easily ring up over 100 dollars - this was 70.

service was a bit slow though on this night. when waitress came had to say lots of stuff we wanted as didn't know when she'd be back. otherwise, a great night out.

love the salad bar and the dark decor, but they need to uo their steak game. the portuguesesoupat the salad bar makes the trip worth it. with the abundance of steak places in calgary this place could be a 5 star if they would uo their food game a bit more. definitely worth the stop

we had a birthday dinner at smuggler's for my son's 17th birthday two days ago and had a great time.  i've been coming here since i was a little kid in the '70's and am always happy to see that the décor hasn't changed - love the giant chairs and woodsy interior.  we had a wonderful server who made sure that we were well looked after and all 5 of us had the prime rib.  it was perfectly cooked and delicious.  the salad bar has changed somewhat, with no potato salad or coleslaw in sight, but it was still good.  my son was disappointed that the steaksouppot was empty. our waiter surprised us with a slice of mud pie with a candle on it for my son, even though we had not said anything to him about the birthday (i think he overheard us!).  we had a wonderful dinner and will be back.

good steak house, first time here. self servesoupand salad is great! the steaksoupwas flavoured wonderfully. ordered the rib eye, unlike most rib eyes mine did not have much fat which was good. service is friendly and fast will definitely return

i loved thesoupand salad bar. we were all starving when we arrived so it was great that we didn't have to wait for appetizers. i ordered the salmon and it wasn't that great. the salmon was very underseasoned- if it was seasoned at all. our waitress was nice but i felt very rushed.

my friends & i have been coming here for decades.  we love the cosy atmosphere, comfy chairs & non-intrusive music & lighting. the sausage/beansoupis always great, but on our last visit the steaksoupwas poor - brown gravy with no obvious pieces of meat. the salad bar selection is top notch & was promptly refilled as things disappeared. the prime rib continues to be the best i've ever eaten & very reasonably priced considering the portion size. my friends new york steak was perfectly cooked.  all in all an exceptional place to eat in calgary.

we really enjoy coming to smugglers. my dad loves their steak soup, and i have to agree with him. thesoupand salad bar is excellent. while i do like prime rib, i am a sucker filet mignon so end up getting that instead. always cooked very nicely and has a soft, buttery texture. their escargot is also very good, so much garlic and butter, what's not to like?

i have been coming here for decades.  it is the "go to" place for excellent prime rib. there are other items on the menu including chicken and fish, but i have never ordered them, as the beef is superior.   the salad bar including bread andsoupare an added bonus, which is included in your meal. the only small negative i have to say is that it is somewhat dark, and little hard to see.  service has always been excellent.

always a great choice!! they have the best prime rib and at a reasonable price too. i always eat too much at thesoupand bread and salad bar because it's so good and fresh. the service is excellent. my boyfriend and i have been coming here for 5 years for all our special occasions. i do recommend making reservations on the weekends and plan ahead because the parking lot of always packed.

we went to smuggler's for lunch with work yesterday and i really enjoyed my food. the salad bar andsoupwas also included with the meal. great choice for lunch

never a disappointment. the salad bar is amazing. the steaksoupis one of a kind. always worth the drive, the wait and the cost. hope this landmark is around for many more years to come.

love this place! food has always been good, and freesoupand salad bar with the meal! never leave this restaurant hungry. it truly is quality and quantity! the decor is really neat too! feels like you've gone back to the medieval ages!
