if manna from heaven were bbq, smokin bones would be the chef. smokin' bones is a literal answer to my prayers. i like to consider myself a bbq guy. my wife is a born and raised midwest native from kansas city(the capital of bbq) and we venture out there still 3-4 a year just for the bbq.... and maybe to see her family also, but that's always a distant second on the list of reasons to vacate back to kc. on the weekends i attempt to smoke my own ribs and brisket, so i am pretty familiar with the nitty gritty of bbq. on top of that we all know bountiful is in need of more restaurants and lunch options, especially bbq. so needless to say i was anticipating the opening of smokin' bones like my 2 year old son anticipates the opening of a bag of starburst candy the second he awakes in the morning.

with that said smokin' bones rivals any place i've eaten in kansas city. i have tried every single item on the menu and every single item is awesome! not just good, but awesome. the only thing i havent tried is the vegetables. and lets be honest, who goes to a bbq joint for vegetables? if you are doing that you really need to look inward at your priorities, lets just throw this out there, if you are going to a bbq place for the veggies the terrorists have won.

the chef, kile, is a bbq genius. you have your standard fare on the menu of pulled pork, brisket, ribs etc, but the thing i love most about this place is the creative menu kile has come up with. prepare to have your mind blown as i describe the delicious delicacy's that have tantalized my taste buds:

brisket navajo tacos- no your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, these babies exist and they exist to please. imagine, if you will, a scone, piled with cheese, bbq beans, brisket and bbq sauce. no this isnt mr rogers neighborhood of make believe its real life ok?. just warn your taste buds before partaking because they will think they have been assaulted...with a round house kick to face of deliciousness.

pulled pork nachos- pork? check. bbq sauce? check. nacho cheese sauce? triple check, the triumvirate of boldness will party in your mouth until you almost lose consciousness.

pork steak burgers- i know what you're thinking, a burger has no place at a bbq joint. if you think that then you sir/ma'am are in cahoots with me because i had the same reservations. until i had the courage to try one. its a burger piled high with pulled pork and bbq sauce. do i need to say anything else? no. but i will. this is the exact thing that sold me on chef kile being this generations david copperfield of the smoker. this restaurant is his canvas and all he has to paint with is bold flavors, moist tender meats and the best bbq sauce you will ever taste.

i swear kile was foreordained in the great councils of heaven to be the bbq chef that catered such an event because hisfoodis certainly fit for the gods. thefoodis fresh every day. its moist, its tender its tasty its everything you want in a bbq joint. the one down fall of this place, and every place has something that it needs to work on, is kile and family are big byu fans. they have yet come to sup at the table of the pac 12 conference where bcs births and rose bowls abound. but there is still time to jump on the ute bandwagon, and i will for one will welcome them with open arms when they do, as this bandwagon is in dire need of some good bbq. do yourself a flavor(see what i did there?) and go to smokin bones. you will not regret it. unless youre looking for veggies, then as i said, its probably time to punch yourself in the face.

*disclaimer. i am in no way related to chef kile or anyone associated with this restaurant. i am not being paid to write this review. im just a man. a man with needs. bbq needs. and smokin' bones satisfies those needs in a way no one else can. don't judge me.

over-priced and lackluster at best.. i wish i had something good to say other than the owners are very nice people.sadly i do not.we can literally see smokin bones from my house.we have never seen a puff of smoke or smelled a hint of cooking meat coming from there.

their brisket...which should be served in cut slices is served as an overly wet pulled meat.it taste like grandma's pot roast but even more flavorless.apon looking at it or any of any other of the meats we've had here they don't have a smoke ring....just saying.my family all agrees it all tastes as though it's cooked in the oven/crockpots,with no rubs or seasonings added to it pre-cooking.

we went when they were trying a weekly new item menu one time....navajo tacos...they called them.a giant deep fried utah "scone" a lot of very lackluster canned beans and meager scoop of their soggy...pot roast "brisket" it was insanely over-priced and disappointing...in fact theirfoodas a whole is over-priced and disappointing.

beans from a can, cold pre-made cornbread, and flavorless meat served colder than room temperature.

i really don't know how people rave about this place.maybe they've never had actual barbecue or have the the most easily impressed palates in the world.

judging by the reviews, our family isn't the only one that thinks this way.

a+ for the friendly staff and owners....d- for everything else.

we had 7 eating experiences at or from smokin bones, and all we did each tiime all we did is kick ourselves for wasting so much money only to be disappointed, again.

spare yourself.if you want good or even great, authentic barbecue.....go to slc

wow!!. if i were to sum this place up in one word, that word would be wow. i met the owner today and they had cooked so muchfoodthat they were out of nearly everything. although that's not a bad thing, because it gave me the opportunity to try something new. i have been to this place twice and have never been disappointed. this place does not have a huge menu but everything and i repeat everything is absolutely amazing. they have perfected the art of smoking. tonight i tried the sausage and the pizza with pulled pork as the topping then had them drizzle there bbq sauce on top. i can honestly say i have never had that great of a pizza before, and out of all people who know good pizza, i would be the judge without doubt. all the smoke meats are also amazing i tried the three meat treat last time which is great for sampling the different options they offer, make sure you try all their sauces. thefoodis always press the owner is super friendly and i was able to chat with them quite a bit. the staff is also extremely friendly and very accommodating.

amazing bbq. i finally went to this place after weeks of hearing about how incredible it is. i ordered the half rack of ribs and a bbq pizza! the staff was great explaining the process of smoking and the difference between how they prepare there meat and how others do. these guys order only fresh never frozen meats and on top of that everything they make is homemade! the staff is all family and wants you to feel welcomed.

the ribs were an amazing rich red color and fell completely off the bone when encouraged. there was a smoke ring almost all the way through!

the bbq pizza had pork on it and was divine. i mean can this get any better? this was even cooked with all wood like the smoker. i cant believe how good this was.

these guys cook with only wood. they don't use pellets or any other filers. they cook therefoodup to 22 hours depending on the meat.

if you are a bbq fan do yourself a favor and stop by. if you really want to know about this place and how special they are ask for the pitmaster kile. probably the nicest person you will ever "meat"!

smokin bones junkie!!!. i'm addicted to the food! that’a a good start to this review. i'm not very good at explaining things but i will do my best to describe my three experiences at smokin bones bbq. when i first went to smokin bones, i had heard that it was good and i read all the reviews on urban spoon about the place, so my expectations were high to say the least. when i walked in i saw a sign that said they were out of baby back ribs, (i did get there at about 7 pm, they close at 8) i was a little disappointed because that’s what i wanted to try first. but instead i got the bbq pizza with pulled pork. let me tell you that i was not disappointed in the least. some of the best pizza that i have ever had. the flavor is awesome, i don’t know what it is about the pizza that makes it so wonderful (again i'm not good at explaining) maybe the bbq sauce, but either way i was hooked. i went there again 2 days later just to try their baby back ribs and loved them. the meat was fall of the bone and again the bbq sauce was fantastic. (i like sauces so i usually get lots of it on whatever i’m having). i went again yesterday and ordered the pizza again because my wife and parents were with me and thats what she wanted to try. she told me she loved the pizza as well. she was able to try the ribs and said it was the best ribs she has ever had.

sides are all awesome!!! corn bread is my fav.

all in all thefoodis wonderful and just writing this review makes me want to go back right now and try something new. they have exceeded my expectations and that is not an easy task considering i went in with really high expectations with all the good reviews......speaking of reviews.....

i noticed the only bad review was from a user named "kity", could this user be the same kity that owns 'kitty pappas steak house' literally down the street from smokin bones bbq (1.5 miles according to google maps)? if so, it seems quit shady, and cheap of you to write a bad review about a competitor’s restaurant like this. play nice kitty pappas!

simply brilliant bbq!. i've been able to sample most of the menu items on offer at smokin bones bbq in bountiful, ut, and i can honestly say that it's virtually impossible to pick my favorite item. the steak burger, which is a 1/4 angus beef patty grilled to perfection and topped with the most heavenly pulled pork is simply to die for! the beef brisket is juicy and has just the perfect balance of smoke-flavoring. it's equally divine. the pulled pork is an absolute slam-dunk of flavor. juicy, smokey and a sheer delight to eat.

the sides are stars in their own right. the cole slaw, a dish which i've never particularly cared for prior to trying the smokin bones rendition, is the real unsung hero of the overall dining experience. it's a tangy, yet sweet vinegar-based dressing on the slaw that really kicks it over the top. you wouldn't go wrong if you merely ordered the slaw & left it at that. it's that good! the bbq beans are really flavorful, with just a bit of bite to 'em spice-wise, but nothing that overpowers it. as stated by other reviewers, the corn bread is a must-try as well, especially when paired with the beans. the veggie bowl is nothing special. just baby carrots and celery sticks served with ranch dressing. kinda hard to mess that one up.

i have yet to try their pizza (which looks absolutely decadent, btw!), their nachos, their wings (just added to the menu this week), or their ribs. their ribs always sell out fast. but in speaking with other patrons who have been eating the afore-mentioned items while i've been there, they're all equally as tasty as the items i have tried.

thefoodis the most obvious reason to visit smokin bones bbq, as it's everything you would hope a good bbq joint should be. however, where the establishment really stands apart from the crowd is their kind and courteous service. from the moment you walk in the door, and that glorious wood-smoked aroma hits you smack in the face, the staff at smokin bones give you the most sincere & friendly welcome a customer could ever hope to receive. you really feel like you belong there. not many restaurants offer that level of service. they're a mom & pop operation that are making the american dream a reality, and we're all the richer for it.

smokin bones bbq is a simply outstanding dining experience in every possible way.

incredible. i first heard about this place from a friend from salt lake. i live in bountiful and never had seen it. this is a mom and pa operation. they welcome you as soon as you walk in. i ordered the ribs, cole slaw and cornbread. what can i say! the ribs were the best i have ever had and i lived in texas for 12 years! the coleslaw was vinegar base, sweet but light (best i have ever had), and the corn bread melted in your mouth. not to mention the slaw was easily 4 times the portion you would get from another restaurant. the owner came and asked me how myfoodwas and if there was anything he could do to make my stay better! he introduced me to his whole family (which all work there). i am very impressed and hope that more people give them a try! best bbq i have ever had and would recommend this to anyone!! thanks smokin bones bbq, you have a fan for life!
