passable bbq, great sides and nice atmosphere. pulled pork is good but like one reviewer said, not a ton ofsmokeon it. that being said the sides are fantastic. the collard greens, fried okra and mac and cheese are way above average. sit outside if the weather is nice and you have a real treat.

we hadn't really planned on having dinner atsmokeon the water . we had planned on taking advantage of smoke's happy hour. from 4:00pm to 7:00pm monday through saturday, drinks are downright cheap, making this one of the best happy hours in town. draft beer and liquor drinks - 1/2 off, bottles of beer and glasses of wine - $1.00 off. image: http://www.upstatefoodie.com after a couple drinks in the warm, clubby bar, we shifted from lounge-type seating over to a booth in the dining area. the photo below is the view from one of the booths lining the wall. and, it did fill up later in the evening. we've been tosmokeon the water a few times now, but the dishes in this post are from one of our earlier visits. as of this writing, a couple of these dishes have been replaced by new dishes on the menu, but you'll get a good idea of what they're food's like. here's the current menu . corn bread was served with our drinks. people can be pretty picky about their corn bread. i like it all! this v

i can now takesmokeon the water out of my bookmarked places to eat. i celebrated my bday, july 12 by having lunch here. the restaurant isn't large, and the lunch time crowd wasn't that big.smokeon the water has a fully stocked bar and i was going to have a bday margarita but decided on the lemonade instead. the table had several big bottles of barbecue sauce for your convenience, from a sweet and mild, mustard based, ketchup to hot barbecue sauces. they serve cake square size pieces of cornbread while you wait on the food to come. it's served with warm butter and is slightly sweet. they will bring out as much of these as you want. a nice a different southern touch!! for an appetizer we had the smokin' jackets. the smokin' jackets are potato skins stuffed with your choice of beef brisket, pulled pork or smoked pulled chicken. we had ours stuffed with pulled pork, they top this with melted cheese and barbecue sauce and green onions. these are served with sour cream. i liked the potato skins, though the pulled pork topping was a little skimpy, as you can see in the picture. they reminded me of the baked potatoes that big dave's barbecue use to serve. for lunch i ordered the barbecue chicken breast, a dinner portion comes with two sides. my sides were mac and cheese and squash casserole. my first bite of the squash casserole i noticed that there was mushrooms in it, i'm not a mushroom eater, so i gave the squash casserole to my niece and she gave me her fried okra. the switch was ok with me. that being said i can't say how the squash casserole was. the okra looked and tasted like it was breaded in just a cornmeal batter. it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. the mac and cheese was just that macaroni with a cheese sauce with to me a little too much garlic in it. this was still a different tasting mac and cheese, the flavor was ok it was creamy and the pasta was not under cooked it had a nice crunchy breadcrumb topping that added and nice touch to the casserole. now about the barbecue chicken breast. it was a nice looking piece of chicken, nice grill marks, a beautiful glaze of a sweet tasting smoky barbecue sauce. the chicken breast was not very tender, but it did have a good smoked taste. this meal should come with a steak knife, so it would be easier to cut the chicken breasts. it was a butterflied chicken breast, but it was still tough. i've found that if you put chicken breasts in the oven after it's comes off of the grill, it gets tender. that's time consuming i know, but it helps tenderize the chicken especially if it's a thick chicken breast. all in all it was a good meal, and i'll come back again and try some thing different on the menu. i would recommendsmokeon the water it's a nice place to eat in downtown greenville.

i lovesmokeon the water but it's time to step it up. the wait times are ridiculous and even after ordering it took an hour for my meal to come out. this has been the last 2 times i've been there. please reevaluate your flow and efficiency!!

smoke on the water is our favorite place to eat in greenville. we love eating atsmokeon the water. when we moved here from kansas city we were concerned about finding good barbecue. we have never been disappointed. the meat has a goodsmokeflavor. the sauce is a bit different than what we are used to but they did have options that we really enjoyed. i love the fried green tomatoes. i cannot get enough of them.

love that smoke. my wife and i drive over from easley for a late saturday or sunday lunch once a month or so. it's one of our favorite restaurants. they are often still busy after regular lunch hour on saturday and sundays, but the service is almost always very good and the wait staff friendly and attentive. the lunch menu is so very reasonable. we've ordered the pulled pork and sliced brisket and been pleased - love the sauce choices. i often get the lunch ahi tuna plate with a side of their somokestack onion rings. i order the tuna medium rare and it is consistently served medium rare or close. it is always fresh tasting - never fishy. my wife always orders the smoked chipotle wing appetizer for her meal. these chicken wings are hands down the best wings in america - have to be - we've eaten wings all over the west from california to colorado and quite a few places since we moved to the south. they are incredible - smoky with serious spicy chipotle bite and so big and tender and juicy. i can't say enough good about them. we share the tuna and wings and always leave full and happy. the west end of greenville has lots of good eateries -smokeremains one of our regular places.

what happened?. we have been atsmokeon the water many times, always satisfied. the last time we were there we were told the wait was going to be 40, but were seated 1 hour and 15 minutes later. the hostess sat a table of 8 that got there after us!! the waitress was surprisingly rude, which we all wondered why until we were given the "automatic 18% tip". manager did nothing about any of it. also if they say you can "call ahead", that means nothing as we did so and they had no clue. wont be going back!!!!

for my main course, i had the combo platter with brisket and pulled pork with sides of fried okra and sugar snap peas. in a word, the meal was fantastic. the pulled pork has a greatsmokeflavor, is tender, and not dry at all. you can definitely eat it without adding any sauce, but the sauce definitely enhances the flavor. my personal favorite is a spicy vinegar based sauce, but you can also choose from sc mustard, kc sweet, and a house red sauce.

not bad. we ordered thesmoken' jackets with pulled pork and they were awesome! for dinner we got the half racket of baby backs (which were pretty fatty and didn't have a lot of taste) and the briskett (again just ok). maybe it was just what we ordered, but you can't go wrong with thosesmoken' jackets! also, the service was good and back patio was a great place to sit, so cool place!

excellent upscale barbeque. i absolutely lovesmokeon the water! every meal i have had here was amazing. the food is great, cooked and seasoned by expert chefs. each of the sauces provided at your table is unique, all of them delicious alterations to the flavor of your food. the environment of the restaurant is very pleasant, from the cozy tables inside to the relaxed public seating out front. the service has been excellent for each of my visits, with the wait staff being very quick to help, and willing to answer any questions you might have. definitely one of the best restaurants in greenville. try the pimento cheeseburger!

wonderful food and service. my husband and i recently hosted a rehearsal dinner for our son and his wife atsmokeon the water. the food was absolutely fabulous and so was the service. we had a large group (35) and it took a little bit of time for everyone to receive their food but it was an excellent evening for all. i highly recommend this restaurant. the food and staff are excellent, the atmosphere is fun and relaxing, and the prices are reasonable. i think this might be one of the best options in greenville, sc.

either you love it or you hate it. at least one or two things about this place calledsmokeon the water in one of the best locations in all of downtown greenville. i have the feeling that most people love it more than those that hate it, but that is just a general observation with the overflowing of people from 11:30 when they open for lunch up till 10:00 at night. it is also a bbq thing. no two individuals view the best bbq as the same thing.

way overrated!!!. went there last evening five people for a graduation dinner $200. the fried green tomatoes were hard, barely cooked, the brisket was extremely dry to the point it got stuck in your throat when you tried to swallow it, sugar snap peas some undercooked and some ok, the dish was inconsistent. ribs were mushy, dont know how else to describe it. the squash casserole was good, tuna very good and fried oyster appetizer was good. the cobbler was undercooked and i had better at a diner, strawberry binegt was so, so. bannana foster was very good. corn bread some pieces ok others burnt. i called about a week ahead so they knew i was coming for a graduation, it was around 8:30 and they close at 10pm so they rushed everything, the dinner came out way before we even had a chance to get halfway through our appetizers and they insisted on putting the dinner plates on the table with the appetizer plates even though they all wouldn't fit. the same happened with all other courses, they had us in and out of there i would bet, within an hour and we ordered appetizers, wine, dinner and desert. i normally don't write reviews even if the restaurant was really bad, but i just felt so bad for the person i took out for graduation. this restaurant really didn't care. if you are going to be spending $200 or even just $20 there are so many other good restaurants in the greenville area, especially barbeque. this rates just above low to medium quality, seriously and i'm not hard to please with food. if you want really good barbecue try baby's in seneca. it's not a sit down restaurant, but the barbecue is unreal. and i guess it wouldn't have mattered if it was sit down or not since we barely got to sit down atsmokeon the water before they were rushing us back out the door. this restaurant is way over rated!! i guess i should have read the reviews before i went there.
