upscale meat and 3 typeplacenear falls park. i’ve been here several times and i always find the food to be good but not great. this time i had the brisket sandwich. the brisket was a little on the dry side. they pitch their sauces and recommended a habanero sauce which helped a lot. side was a potato cake which sounded intriguing but was just okay. free cornbread is always good. i had a bloody mary too and that was tasty. service was friendly. got out under $20 which i think is reasonable with an alcoholic beverage. 3 1/2 stars.

i can now take smoke on the water out of my bookmarked places to eat. i celebrated my bday, july 12 by having lunch here. the restaurant isn't large, and the lunch time crowd wasn't that big. smoke on the water has a fully stocked bar and i was going to have a bday margarita but decided on the lemonade instead. the table had several big bottles of barbecue sauce for your convenience, from a sweet and mild, mustard based, ketchup to hot barbecue sauces. they serve cake square size pieces of cornbread while you wait on the food to come. it's served with warm butter and is slightly sweet. they will bring out as much of these as you want. a nice a different southern touch!! for an appetizer we had the smokin' jackets. the smokin' jackets are potato skins stuffed with your choice of beef brisket, pulled pork or smoked pulled chicken. we had ours stuffed with pulled pork, they top this with melted cheese and barbecue sauce and green onions. these are served with sour cream. i liked the potato skins, though the pulled pork topping was a little skimpy, as you can see in the picture. they reminded me of the baked potatoes that big dave's barbecue use to serve. for lunch i ordered the barbecue chicken breast, a dinner portion comes with two sides. my sides were mac and cheese and squash casserole. my first bite of the squash casserole i noticed that there was mushrooms in it, i'm not a mushroom eater, so i gave the squash casserole to my niece and she gave me her fried okra. the switch was ok with me. that being said i can't say how the squash casserole was. the okra looked and tasted like it was breaded in just a cornmeal batter. it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. the mac and cheese was just that macaroni with a cheese sauce with to me a little too much garlic in it. this was still a different tasting mac and cheese, the flavor was ok it was creamy and the pasta was not under cooked it had a nice crunchy breadcrumb topping that added and nice touch to the casserole. now about the barbecue chicken breast. it was a nice looking piece of chicken, nice grill marks, a beautiful glaze of a sweet tasting smoky barbecue sauce. the chicken breast was not very tender, but it did have a good smoked taste. this meal should come with a steak knife, so it would be easier to cut the chicken breasts. it was a butterflied chicken breast, but it was still tough. i've found that if you put chicken breasts in the oven after it's comes off of the grill, it gets tender. that's time consuming i know, but it helps tenderize the chicken especially if it's a thick chicken breast. all in all it was a good meal, and i'll come back again and try some thing different on the menu. i would recommend smoke on the water it's a niceplaceto eat in downtown greenville.

always good. this is the first seat downplacei.had been.to in greenville and i always make it back ever few mos be.it bbq steak , shrimp and grits or even to eat great amazing fries and.good.beer for dinner. never a bad.meal

family favorite. been here plenty of times. favorites are the ribs, smoke wings ,half chicken, spinach casserole, mac and cheese, greens, briquette , did i miss anything. never dissatisfied with the food or service. my wife and i have turned on three couples to thisplaceand all enjoyed. must try! great location but beware, planned events are always a norm so you may have to wait! if you don't like "smoke" then you haven't experience good food, great obiance, and fair prices with the luxury of downtime greenville sc.

everything has been excellent except the crab cakes!. we had family in town from germany so we ate at thisplace3 times within two weeks. everything we had was wonderful from barbecue plate, salad entree, burgers, salmon, squash casserole, collard greens and the service was also always good. on the other hand the crab cakes were the worst ive ever had. dear owner of smoke....... if you can't do it right.....don't do it. what were you thinking? surely you know those crab cakes suck. we will definitely be back for everything but those crappy crab cakes!

the first we were here, everything was terrific
today the chicken chili came out cold
they apologized and brought it out steaming, saying that he failed to mix the pot
i ordered the smokey being s i had once before
they were luke warm
the restaurant opens at 11:0 am
i was served cold an 12:00
what a shame
the waitress was more that apologetic and helpful
i will give thisplaceon more shot

smoke on the water is our favoriteplaceto eat in greenville. we love eating at smoke on the water. when we moved here from kansas city we were concerned about finding good barbecue. we have never been disappointed. the meat has a good smoke flavor. the sauce is a bit different than what we are used to but they did have options that we really enjoyed. i love the fried green tomatoes. i cannot get enough of them.

my girlfriend and i have gone here a few times now and i must say it's a great deal for the amount of money you pay. it's not any more expensive than going out to a normal dining restaurant but a much nicer venue and setting. the food is always great we have had pork, brisket, ribs and the prime rib. all of which were some of the best we have had. a greatplaceto go on a date with a slight budget in mind if you still want a nicer venue. we will go back for sure.

love love love. i love this restaurant! i can finally eat at a bbq restaurant with my tomato allergy since thisplaceoffers a variety of sauces that you add to your own food. the meats are fabulous, and every single side dish option is delicious. this is a favorite!

not bad. we ordered the smoke n' jackets with pulled pork and they were awesome! for dinner we got the half racket of baby backs (which were pretty fatty and didn't have a lot of taste) and the briskett (again just ok). maybe it was just what we ordered, but you can't go wrong with those smoke n' jackets! also, the service was good and back patio was a greatplaceto sit, so cool place!

either you love it or you hate it. at least one or two things about thisplacecalled smoke on the water in one of the best locations in all of downtown greenville. i have the feeling that most people love it more than those that hate it, but that is just a general observation with the overflowing of people from 11:30 when they open for lunch up till 10:00 at night. it is also a bbq thing. no two individuals view the best bbq as the same thing.

greatplacefor raw fried oysters & uncooked fried green tomatoes. we tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. since we love fried oysters and fried green tomatoes when we saw them on the menu we ordered them. what a disappointment. both were under-cooked. the oysters raw and slimy and the green tomatoes rubbery. we left all but two... less one each that my wife and i tried to eat. when we asked for the check no... "was there something wrong with the food from the waitress?" we won't be back

mediocre. i've been here three times.

nice atmosphere. service on one visit was horrendous -- after an hour, we (and several nearby tables) had not been served, and a dessert was brought out as an apology. but we had not yet eaten, so the dessert was removed, with the promise that it would be returned at the end of the meal. it never was.

the barbecue may be high-style, so to speak, but it's not really good smoked meat. if you are looking for barbecue, this isn't theplaceto go.

the food is unremarkable, and frankly some of the non-barbecue items make for better choices.

the central issues here are barbecue and its sauces, and they have that down: chicken, beef or pork; vinegar, mustard, sugar or tomato--you're covered. prices? reasonable or lower. service? in over 30 meals, nothing less than very good, and usually excellent. order the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer; that should cure most ills so you are ready for what lies ahead. the desserts are good, but don't skimp on the barbecue just for them.

stylish southern comfort. this is aplacewith everything--attentive service, reasonable prices and above all else excellent food. the variety would be intimidating were it not for the friendliness of the staff. and after only two or three visits, one is treated as if he or she had been a lifelong friend--none of which is to mention that they avoid the "what sauce is best?" question by offering four choices. highly recommended.

all around greatplaceto eat.. smoke on the water is a uniqueplacewhere you can roll up your sleeves and dive into a rack of ribs and some pulled pork or have you some prime rib with a nice red wine. it has a great atmosphere, good selection of food at very affordable prices for the area, and the staff is some of the best in greenville. always ask myself "why has it been so long since i ate here last" everytime i go.
