smoke on the water

the smokey smoked meats are fantastic, but i really think i could just go order a plate of sides. the squash casserole and the spinach casserole are phenomenal, the potato cakes are outstanding, and the fried green tomatoes are to die for. i went with a group of some of the pickiest eaters i know and everyone came out fat, happy, and with a to go box!

comfort food!. i love smoke on the water. they have the best comfort food in greenville for a very good price and the service is wonderful.

this is some of the best food i have had in a long time. it may be barbecue but it's just not your average bbq! the pulled pork doesn't even really need a sauce; it was that moist and flavorful. the side dishes are also amazingly unique! the atmosphere is quaint yet not packed; and the staff was very friendly. i will definitely be going back soon!!

the central issues here are barbecue and its sauces, and they have that down: chicken, beef or pork; vinegar, mustard, sugar or tomato--you're covered. prices? reasonable or lower. service? in over 30 meals, nothing less than very good, and usually excellent. order the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer; that should cure most ills so you are ready for what lies ahead. the desserts are good, but don't skimp on the barbecue just for them.

stylish southern comfort. this is a place with everything--attentive service, reasonable prices and above all else excellent food. the variety would be intimidating were it not for the friendliness of the staff. and after only two or three visits, one is treated as if he or she had been a lifelong friend--none of which is to mention that they avoid the "what sauce is best?" question by offering four choices. highly recommended.

great find in the west end neighborhood. comfort food that is piled high, tastes delicious and makes choosing an entree a challenge.

all around great place to eat.. smoke on the water is a unique place where you can roll up your sleeves and dive into a rack of ribs and some pulled pork or have you some prime rib with a nice red wine. it has a great atmosphere, good selection of food at very affordable prices for the area, and the staff is some of the best in greenville. always ask myself "why has it been so long since i ate here last" everytime i go.

very, very good! for a displaced texan jonesing for some bbq brisket this place really hit the spot!! great sides too. hope to come back again soon.

good place to eat. for downtown greenville, this is one of the cheaper places that you can eat that is still a "sit down" restaurant. prices range from $8 for a sandwich plate to $30+ for steaks. portions are ginormous. the service is usually good and friendly. it can, however, be quite busy, which means the kitchen is occasionally backed up and slow. the bar is also very, very busy on weekends. it's also very loud due to the building acoustics and i like the summers best--the live music is outside instead of inside (and splitting your ears open). food is generally consistent, though sometimes plating is hit or miss and they occasionally run out of a side or two. sometimes the okra is soggy, sometimes the burgers are dry. but usually it's great. i live downtown and go at least once or twice a week. definitely a great value proposition for downtown eating.

can't go wrong. this place is very good and they have live music many nights. you can't go wrong taking a date here (unless you've brought a lame girl! :)

great food with great location. this restaurant is located in the west end district. the food and service were wonderful!

good place.. i go here with my boyfriend a lot. it's a perfect date place and the food is always tasty.

we had a great experience at smoke. the food, atmosphere, and service were great. the meat was good (don't get me wrong), but it didn't have the slow smoked for 12-hours flavor that you get at other true bbq restaurants. the meat was a great conduit for the awesome and unique sauces the have table side. the sides were great and bountiful!

great food, poor service, fair prices. good bbq sauces too! overall 3/4 of our party would go again.

the mustard sauce and the "special"spicy sauce were both fantastic. we had the brisket and beer can chicken, both were moist and not overcooked. the sides were pretty good also, although the mac and cheese is not a traditional baked mac and cheese, still good but more of a stove top mac and cheese.
