great experience. the she-crab soup here is really creamy and full of chunks of crab meat. i'd never had she-crab soup ever, but smithfield inn has made me a fan. the pork belly spring rolls are a great appetizer too and the carolina mopping sauce goes very well with them. the onion rings may be the best i've ever had anywhere. the onion inside was so fresh and crispy and perfectly breaded. the truffled french fries were unique and made me wonder why all french fries aren't done this way. i completely recommend the turkey monte cristo. i went here for lunch recently and sat underneath the covered seating area outside so i could watch and listen to the thunderstorms. my party was the only one sitting outside and the inn was even setting up for an outside event later so it was nice of them to oblige my request to sit outside. john was an excellent waiter. i can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu.

smithfield inn. on a sunday afternoon, this is the perfect place to drive to for a lovely old fashioned brunch with friends/loved ones. country style and quite elegant. the menu is diverse and every time i have eaten there, have loved it!

went to dinner friday night for the first time at the smithfield inn. great experience. the wife and i both had a hankering for a burger, and with the recommendation from several friends... burgers it is. started off with their crab dip and homemade pita crisps, awesome. we tried the "big inn" and the "inn house", both were excellent. we liked the atmosphere and the service was solid. give them a try, we'll be back for some of the other southern cooking choices.

smithfield inn was just right for a relaxed friday night dinner. i had the shrimp & grits and my wife had chicken pot pie. both entrees were delicious and well served.

nicki has got that place in great shape! with john at the bar you can't lose! the food rivals norfolk and the beach. if you haven't been, your taste buds will thank you once you have! try the red couch for a great dining experience and get a room upstairs for the perfect romantic evening.

not impressed. my wife and i went for lunch during the smithfield olden days festival. the service was extremely slow, and the food was just plain awful. we will not be back.

the inn is lovely. the main dining area could stand to be updated. there is a difference between old charm and needing a fresh coat of paint. the smaller dining area is wonderful- we had a bridal shower there and the inn did a great job. the food has never let me down. great place to grab lunch while exploring smithfield!

home of my favorite sandwich. love the inn, my favorite is the va reuben and sweet potato fries. i always recommend it to folks, and everyone whose tried it loves it. the crab dip is alos awesome. the staff are friendly, especially john, nikki and sarah.

the place to eat in smithfield. this place is the perfect combination; great food, great staff, and great atmosphere. it has the small town/tourist town balance down perfectly and they are even kid friendly. i enjoy the lobster mac n cheese, and the croque american sandwich. i love coming here with my kids because i order the fish n chips for them. after my kids eat about half the fish n chips i get to eat the rest! honestly the kids fish n chips is better than most restaurants fish n chips. they use fresh ingredients and season it properly. if you are coming to smithfield, this is the place to go eat.

nice place. the smithfield inn is a nice place to dine. i prefer dining outside or in the rand tavern bar area. i'm not fond of the remodel job but i don't work for southern living so what do i know. music on saturday evenings is nice. the food is pretty good (i've never had bad) but i also enjoy eaves dropping on blue hairs to hear them complain about this and that (mostly the crab dip?).

i enjoyed my visit to the smitfield inn, this place has great ambiance and very good service. i tried their crab cake w/fried green tomatoes. the crab cake was pretty good with a fair amount of meat but awesome fried green tomatoes. i also tried their she crab soup which i found quite tasty. this is a great place for a nice lunch or dinner if you are in downtown smithfield. they are also known for their ham biscuits. there is a nice bar inside and plenty of parking across the street.

this was a great lunch. the old part of smithfield has great charm and the food here added greatly to the experience.

everything was very tasty and satisfying. the she-crab soup was rich and was full of crab meat. my wife's chicken salad was, she declared, the best she'd ever had.

my brunswick stew was exceptional - sweet from the tomatoes and packed with chicken and vegetables. the ham biscuits on yeast rolls were heavenly with thinly-shaved smithfield country ham.

smithfield inn is definitely worth the stop.

excellent service, and dining on the front porch on a beautiful spring evening was enjoyable. the tavern menu is a good value, and drinks are a bargain at $5.50 apiece. loved the bread pudding!

go!. excellent. perfectly fried oysters for an appetizer and a great crabcake for an entree. best seafood meal i've had in years.

the table next to us was having crawfish on fried green tomatoes as well as ham biscuits. they looked wonderful.
