slates, candia ave, cape coral,fl., here is my 2 cents on the food, rant & rave plus chatter. the food.
today brunch item. 8 oz. ribeye, with 2 eggs, a salsa on top and house potatoe. cooked medium rare of course. a carnivore delight prepared to specifications. to be honest i prefer the traditional way. of just the steak alone. but this was very good. i had a cocktail called a pimm, delightful.
and of course the very unique  new orleans beignet . served hot and so sweet. it came with some type of i believe raspberry sauce . i hated this too sour.
rave... always wonderful and exquisite  food.
rant...not able to afford to eat here more often.
service was outstanding. plus a new orlean band playing in the background.
sssssooooooooooooo good. here is my 2 cents. this the 2nd time eating here. the food is just outstanding. it is spicy and so flavorable. i had thecrawfishetouffee and my wife had the shrimp poor boy.
the seafood is fresh and melts in your mouth.the etouffee is full ofcrawfishand so spicy. maybe too spicy for floridians. plus if you need more heat (like me) they offer additional choice sauces. the first time eating key lime pie was great. though we had to wait for the chef to make the whip cream, it was so worth it. ( i make my own whip cream. i know fresh whip cream ;-) )

service was again out standing

a bit of heaven in the cape. wow!!!! slate's...i have had this booked mark for a while. i am ashamed i waited so long.
i must warn all the wimpy sw floridians who do not appreciate real & spicy food. stay away. this is for the adventurous.
i was here for lunch on a friday. around noon time..
my server cheri was fantastic. attentive ,able to quote the special of the day, & answer my questions.

the gumbo was outstanding. it was almost as good as mine. it had just the right amount of roux. along with shrimp, andouille, and chicken . the layer of flavor was great. it was spicy enough so you did not need to add more heat. just enough to say aaahhhhh. the dish alone would make most floridians cry big tears.

the shrimp po boy is to die for....4 fresh off the boat large shrimp. cooked to melt in mouth your texture. the sauce was just enough to compliment the shrimp. the cajun potatoes are so good..

so for all you wannabe mardi gras folks you must come here. you will not be disappointed in the cuisine.

we planned a trip to ft. meyers a few weekends back to visit some friends, and they told us we absolutely have to visit slate’s in cape coral while we were there. . it is a very highly rated and highly recommended restaurant in the area, that pretty much requires reservations for a visit, especially on the weekend. slate’s is the newest addition to the long and lustrous restaurant career of chefs and owners, allan and nancy cotter. “retiring” to southwest florida in 2010 from the island of st croix in the us virgin islands, the chefs cotter soon found themselves quite disillusioned with all the free time retirement gave them. missing their passion for creating exquisite food featuring their much-heralded signature cajun and caribbean infused dishes, the cotters set about the task of creating slate’s. their vision was to create a casual, fine dining experience that simultaneously evokes a feeling of pure enjoyment for friends and patrons.prior to their 2010 arrival in cape coral, allan and nancy were the chefs and owners of the renowned blue moon restaurant and jazz club on st croix for 16 years. the food here is half cajun inspired cuisine, and half steak house. jambalaya, bayou bread, crab cakes, gumbo andcrawfishetouffee all share menu space with usda prime steaks, fresh seafood, pork chops and a variety of sides.

mid-week treat. new orleans chef's fish of the day. both the blackened withcrawfishsauce and crab - stuffed with light alfredo sauce were a hit. my mom started loved the beefeater 's extra dry martini.

great experience!!!. heard through the grapevine that a great new restaurant had opened in cape coral...went friday night to check it out...so impressed...great decor.. fabulous jazz music...four of us showed up with no reservation..was told by a very charming hostess they were pretty full but if we wanted to wait at the bar she would try to get us a table...and barely 2 sips into our champagne cocktail she did...the waiter was great he described the cajun dishes and specials and guided us through an amazing dinner. started with crab cake appetizer and fried oysters then shared a grilled ceasar salad...all were perfect
then came the heat...new orleans alfredo extra spicy with shrimp chicken and andouille sausage over fettucini alfredo, and i had shrimp andcrawfishettouffee which was a little different than im used to ..but was out of this world good...dont even remember what our friends orded..catch of the day or scallops but they were very happy...alll in all 5 stars
