i have been buying seafood at the market for about four years and it’s always great. i had company in town and decided to take them there for dinner, my first time. we where very disappointed. the grouper was fishy tasting and my coconutshrimpwas dry and theshrimpwas old i think. i’m not going back to eat there, buy seafood and fix at home.

skip 1 seafood market and restaurant, tamiami trail, fort myers, fl., here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. oh my the fresh food. first the in-house perfectly sweeten ice cold tea.excellent.... my sides. in house made creamy potatoe salad with a tad of red & green bell peppers mmmmm. fresh and crunchy coleslaw. old school delight. now my just got out of the ocean seafood platter. four jumbo size local shrimp, 4 or so tender scallops, .....crunchy though a bit chewy fried to perfection clams. a good size fish filet to add tartar sauce and malt vinegar for those english fish and chip fan. ahhhh lets not forget the 4-5 inch diameter crab cake,  loaded with crab and those bell peppers for taste.
this is old school atmosphere with as it should be fresh fish. a reminder of better, slower day. the old world beach charm. with a fresh market case to select from the fish monger and carry home the next day meal.
or if you prefer, all you want and can eat fromshrimpor grouper, sunday - thursday entrees. at a reasonable price. good prices of $15- 39 bucks plus in between...or for the smaller appetite a singular but outstanding meal.
you must try this 30 plus year old traditional florida eatery.
note: you can miss it driving south on 41/tamiami trail(right side). it is place back from the roadway.....it has 1 shaded handicapped space, in front of the main entrance, next to seating under some trees. there are 3 other parking spaces in front. but lots of parking in the rear of the establishment.
for all the snowbirds, newbies and old farts who has retired here , come check out this place.

do not judge a book by its cover, you will miss out.... i was driving around looking for the "hole in the wall" type of restaurant. i have never heard of this place, and when i saw the outside, i was like, "lets go there and try it".

never, ever judge a book by its cover. i felt there was something about this place when we had to wait 20 minutes for a table.the food in this place was fantastic and rightfully priced. the friedshrimppopped in your mouth, it was cooked to perfection. my wife is from the bahamas, and she said the bahamian conch chowder was cooked to perfection and was the best she has ever had (conch pieces were a little small though). my blackened mahi mahi was large in portion and succulent in flavor.

we ordered: 2 x heinekens, 2 x sodas, 2 x salad and chowder (new england and bahamian), 2 x conch fritters (8 pieces each), 1 x child's friedshrimpand fries, 1/2 pound of spicy steamed shrimp, and the blackened mahi mahi. total cost minus tip, $71.71.

all you yankees stay away from this place, leave it for the locals to enjoy.

new york foodie. this week tried the 41 s location. there were 4 in our party and all agreed not to go back. the chowder was like thick glue and tasted the same. no clam flavor could be found. our sandwiches were sloppy and theshrimphad an iodine tang. the pickel was good. was very disappointment given the hype this place receives.

my ffirst time. we moved to f.m. 10 years ago but have been visitors here since 1988. we have never visited skip one at it's original location but decided to visit their new location this evening. our first and last time. jill and i both orders a glass of stella artois, both of them arrived in the traditional stemmed glass that is traditional to stella the next two came in different glasses in shape and size. our server tried to make thing right but seemed rather clueless.
we both ordered the combo platters both had had the cajun fried grouper , jills other item was the cajun friedshrimpmy second item was the buffalo shrimp. having lived in new orleans for 3 years as well as working in the food service industry i am very familiar with cajun fried. all of the items that were c. f. came out with a burnt appearance and did not have the crispiness that one usually associates wit something c.f., if there was any corn meal used it was not detectable. the buffaloshrimpdid not remind you in taste or texture of buffalo anything and was only served with 2 very small celery sticks. the fries were good but the applesauce side was in a pre portioned and motts container.
questionable service, poor presentation and food that was just ok all equals a bad first time experience.

we always look for the local "dives" for the absolute best fresh seafood. this one did not disappoint! only disappointment was the small hushpuppies - small, overcooked...and no onions. friedshrimpawesome - grouper even better. will go back for sure!

good food. had theshrimpsandwich. bread is toasted with butter, shrimpis fresh & battered lightly topped with lettuce & tomato. add your own condiments. served with french fries (ok tasting), coleslaw (very good), and pickle spear. filling, good priced. place is busy with not a lot of tables but staff hustles to keep up.
