we love this place.
the foodmenuis perfect and not too complicated. mostly vegan options which is amazing and delicious. the cocktails are by far the best in jhb, well priced and packs a punch!

where mystery & mixology meet.

late last evening with a few new found friends and at the recommendation of award winning mixologost maynard booyzen we found ourselves at sin+tax.

the name hints at what to expect but standing at the hidden black door, we had no idea of the adventure that lay inside. what followed was a feast of conversation with local bartenders from jozi and durban.

alex behind the bar stimulated our senses with incredible artisinal cocktails - the saffron saff off and crème brûlée threw us into a world of tastes only a place like this can offer.

sin+tax is a little on the pricey side but rightfully so. this is not your everyday drink spot. it's a speakeasy for the decerning drinker.

themenuchanges with the season and current mixology trends. we enjoyed the current #tasseomancy high tea with elephants experience.

do yourself a favour and indulge in a night out you won't soon forget.

this place is kinda mind blowing. tucked away in an alley, you'd never expect to find this beautifully modern chic bar. the atmosphere is quite classy but mysterious with the dim lighting and black decor. because themenuis constantly changing, a visit is always exciting cause you never know what you gonna get! the service is great and you get water and some popcorn when you arrive (how cute!). all drinks can be customized for you and they allow orders in from coalition so you aren't left hungry! they only recommendation i have is to make a reservation because they're always packed!

what a unique spot!

probably the best cocktails i've had in jhb. their ever changing seasonalmenuis also a great hit - you're never bored and are always looking forward to your next visit. 

the bartender/waiter always walks you through themenuand if you're not sure what to go for (there is always so much choice!). they'll happily take the time to pick a drink for you based on your tastes. 

the drinks are gorgeously presented with pride. there's a wonderful buzz about the place. this is a perfect spot to meet up with friends for a drink and to relax and unwind after a long week. 

can't wait to see what they come up with in the new year!

what a great time! it’s completely hidden, no sign whatsoever but that doesn’t stop it from being distinctively busy as well as vibey. the whole place reminds one of prohibition period, with a well stocked bar and a great understanding of alcohol and it’s relationship with other flavors. themenuis well thought out, daring and works well. food options are pizzas from coalition which is never a bad choice. their gin selection is both wide and impressive. amazing flavor profiles, great ambience and good service.

mixology at its best. this hidden gem of a bar is really ultra cool and has the most talented mixologists. loved themenu- the theme up until july is high tea with elephants with the cocktailmenuoffering styles and tastes of cocktails that are quirky, fun and very tasty.

the cocktailmenuis intriguing - nothing is the norm. i had to try the one containing olive oil and basil - it was interesting, but i have discovered i am definitely more inclined towards girlie drinks. however, one needs to be adventurous as there are so many delicious flavour combinations out there that need to be explored.

the drinks are on the pricey side - but for good reason - you're paying for the experience, quality and art, the bartender is an absolute artist.

this speakeasy is far and away the best bar in joburg. i love the dynamic nature of the seasonal menus coupled with the consistency of the house favourites.

you can taste the integrity, passion and pride in every drink. the combinations are often unusual and will likely include some alcohols that you have never heard of, but don't worry - the guys behind the bar will talk you through the selection and will guide you to the right choice.

last night we bid farewell to the warmth of the ember menu, my favouritemenuso far. i was really happy to walk away knowing what the colour orange tastes like.

can't wait to sample the drinks from the road to mexico and the rest of the menus to come.

this "secret bar" is amazing! it's completely hidden away down an alley through a door you would never think to enter (ask the coalition dudes to direct you). it's a mixology cocktail bar! each drink is a a taste sensation unlike any other. the service is phenomenal! i was seated and immediately brought a jug of ice water. the cocktails on the limitedmenuare themed (they change monthly i think) and i tried the no.9 from the travel themedmenuwhich i highly recommend! a very strong smokey flavour which i absolutely loved! number 14 was also really tasty. the friendly waitress brought complimentary popcorn, twice :) i look forward to going back to try more! take a look at themenuto see the awesome variety. the lighting is nice and dimmed - the candles lit create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. there are coaches and high tables. awesome place with a great energy!
