funny how progressive hipsters like bars with lots of dead animals.shadypines looks nice but is a pretty standard noisy underground bar. the western music seemed to be droning electronic imitations rather than the real thing. happy hour has great deals, otherwise not worth shutting yourself away.

very hidden entrance, it is as if you were back to 16th century(?) america once you enter the place.
it has live country music and a generally cool vibe.
got the junglebird cocktail andshadypines whisky on the rocks. the cocktail is nice and has a tang of bitter. shame it wasn’t made from scratch. the whisky was smooth and easy to drink.
the music was very pleasant and the reason why i giving it a 5 star :)

a littleshadyit is, with its half grunge, half cowboy décor it is probably not your typical fist date location but that is what’s so great about it. it is a great watering hole, hidden from the busy city, perfect to get cosy over a few drinks. you could go all in and order bourbon, chill with a beer or be a little spontaneous and order a cocktail, whichever drink you decide, it will aid the conversation flow. warning, your biggest obstacle here will be finding the bar– the entrance is a non-descript alley door with no signage, good luck.  shadypine saloon shop 4, 356 crown street, darlinghurst, sydney nsw web: shadypinessaloon.com hit the sweet spot: chanoma, sydney cbd the way to someone’s heart varies person to person, the way to my heart for instance is cheese but more often than not, the way to someone’s heart is sweets. this authentic japanese café in regent place is known for its japanese matcha green tea but sticking to the sweet notes, they serve up generous matcha-based parfaits that are great for sharing . you can’t go wrong with the standard parfait matcha comprising of sweet green tea ice-cream with taro balls, pocky sticks and fruit. read our full post on chanoma. chanoma 1/501 george street, sydney nsw phone: (02) 9767 5465 web: chanoma.com.au for the people watchers: the bucket list, bondi beach the perfect venue for a sun-filled afternoon date where you watch the world go by, literally! it is the best spot  for people watching and to share a jug of pimms! the only downside is that it gets very busy over the weekends in the afternoon, so i would recommend making sure you know what your date looks like before venturing inside, otherwise that could be quite awkward.  the other plus to going here is that there are so many people you can always excuse yourself for the ‘bathroom’ and take a detour all the way home. the bucket list the bondi pavilion, queen elizabeth drive, bondi beach, sydney nsw phone: (02) 9365 4122

aaron forte and jason scott sure know how to make a good bar – they are not only the brains behindshadypines saloon, but also the baxter inn and frankie’s pizza.

10/10. cannot rate this place highly enough. it's like stepping into a western in the middle of the city! a cosy basement bar with all the cowboy trimmings- moose heads on the walls, oak panelling, empty liqueur bottles lining the shelves, and a soundtrack to match! what a great concept.
simple yet clever cocktail menu, extensive craft beer range and surprisingly tasty wine list, with friendly, helpful staff to guide you through should you need a hand. you can tell these guys enjoy working here and the whole atmosphere is light and relaxed!
near impossible to find, our friends stumbled upon this place by accident and subsequently told us to meet them there. we wandered up and down dark alleyways for about half an hour, staring confused at google maps which indicated we were actually inside the bar. eventually we found a small and unassuming doorway with some stairs, and from there it was like stepping into the tardis and going back in time to the wild west. i can find no fault inshadypines! if you only visit one bar in sydney, head to this one.

yeah, nah..shadypines has pretty cool decor, but i just don't like the place because its always overcrowded, nowhere to sit, takes ten years just to get a drink, and you're literally just squashed in with a bunch of people. its a very dark vibe and just a bit average in my opinion.

the epitome of the small bar scene in sydney, shadypines saloon will surprise and delight you. it manages to have an exclusive feel, without the usual sydney pretentiousness.

256 crown st shop 4, not that that address means much.shadypines; even if you know where it is, is hard to find; somedays, there’s nobody out front and you can’t even tell where it is. most times however, its the presence of the big hulking bouncer and/or queues that will reveal where the entrance is. it is a black door painted in that laneway. once you enter, shadypines is a themed small bar/speak easy. the joint has a western themed with animals everywhere and a buckeroo hillbilly sensibility. quite fun. the back counterbehind the mixologists is a shelf filled with taxidermied animals and the most amazingly comprehensive selection of booze. like stars in the sky – speaking of stars, yup, they love their fairy lights here too stuffed animals, fishes on the walls. some sort of grapefruit cocktail. bitter and refreshing. good.   saloonesque aesthetics. chairs. timber panelling. lights. its a western themed smallbar. tom collins. maraschino cherry/ oj / whiskey. good. american flag. t

imagine a bar calledshadypines saloon. what would it look like? well i wouldn’t be surprised if theshadypines of your imagination comes close to the real thing. we’re talking a sub-terranean space with lots of wood and candle light.
