absolutely stellar. i met my boyfriend at the bar and the bartender was excellent. the bar was fairly busy and drinks were flowing. we moved to a table and our server’s name was blue. she was very knowledgeable and did a great job. we had the rainbow trout and chicken piccata. we will definitelybackfor drinks and/or dinner. i highly recommend this restaurant for a date night.

fantastic service and phenomenal food. kiddos to the staff they did a fantastic job. went there on tue for half price wine bottles. they will allow you to order from their capital and still honor half off wine bottle. we ordered silver oak cab that normally is $195 and we only paid $97.50 that was a fantastic deal. will bebackfor sure.

delicious italian eatery in san antonio. my friend and i came across this place couple of days ago. top notch service from the waiters and staff. they were great with recommendations.

the food itself was amazing. i ordered the grilled tenderloin and it was heaven! just the right amount to leave you full, but also light enough where you didn't feel like you were in a food coma. very reasonable prices.

i'm definitely comingbacknext time i'm in the area!

good if you like bertolli. i was hugely disappointed for what tasted like something i could have made at home from prepackaged meals. the portions were reasonable for a single sitting. at most places, you can expect a pasta dish to have enough leftovers for a second meal, but not so here. if there had been more leftovers, i may have felt better about the price. we were all disappointed, so we won't be goingbackagain.

re: happy birthday!? :(. as a previous reviewer had mentioned, you are adding insult to injury by calling your customers liars, rather then properly tending to the issues at hand. we were never told there would be any additional charge for the ingredients, nor an amount for them, obviously. your server specifically stated that he would have to ask the kitchen if they would be willing to prepare the dish differently because it did not come with spinach or walnuts in it. he returned saying "yes, they will do it, i took care of you." we were a party of 7, and everyone in that party (with the exception of my 5 month old, who can't speak for himself) heard this exactly the same.

in my review, i never stated that there wasn't a reduction in the bill offered after you realized it wasn't actually closed. i didn't mention it period, simply because after the drama from the restaurants' end over a simple issue, it was like putting a band aid on a severed limb.

and speaking of bills, i've noticed that you have, on more than just this occasion, publicized the contents of diners final bills including the last 4 digits of their credit cards. once again, this is a perfect example of managements dramatic lack of professionalism. my greatest regret is not having read more of the negative reviews you have received in the first place. i encourage everyone reading this to take some serious things into consideration before dining here. though there are good reviews from other diners, generally related to the taste of the food which i also mentioned isn't bad, the management always responds in the same fashion. they start by attempting to put themselves in the right, then finish with stating that they want to invite peoplebackin, and that they want to fix things.

you don't get customers to reconsider your establishment by insulting them, then offering them reconciliation. we returned the certificates, as i specifically mentioned, simply because our interest is not in free or discounted food. we only hoped for a pleasant, professional experience, which we did not receive.
you have worsened this by the opening nature of your response, we again will not be returning, and encourage others to consider other dining options first.

happy birthday!? :(. we started off with a fairly unreasonable wait for a party that called ahead, to a restaurant that was far from full. our server was attempting to be helpful, but soon seemed to become more overbearing, and occasionally rude. food took a while to come out in a far from full house setting.

the food, i admit, was decent, and would be somewhat reasonable for the price if it wasn't for sneaky little things like charging you $4 for adding a few pieces of spinach into a pasta dish. (a detail not mentioned by our server.) server grew increasingly less-attentive throughout the meal.

by the time everything was ready to be settled, the $4 spinach issue was mentioned to management, which at first, spoke around the issue and left. shortly thereafter, a new manager came to ask if everything was ok, and the issue was again brought up.

his response was a plethora of ridiculous excuses, all the way down to the "high cost" of their italian spinach. (we dine out at restaurants an average of 10 times a week during lunch and dinner, and have never had such a simple issue meet so much argument and contest.) furthermore, i can buy an entire bunch of this "imported spinach" from most markets for roughly a dollar. the principle of the matter was simple, there was no mention of an additional charge, and certainly not one so outrageous. (as you know, normal restaurants charge roughly a dollar for add-on's or minor upgrades.)

after saying the bill couldn't be changed because it was "against the law", the manager tried to ask if he could do something else to resolve the issue. (he though i had already paid with a credit card, and claimed it was illegal to change the transaction, which we all know is not true. it is done daily in retail outfits everywhere.) once i explained to him we hadn't paid, and his server had misinformed him, he burst off to the kitchen, then camebackapologetic for all the lies his server had told him about our meal and our bill.

he then boasted to have "suspended him immediately", which is disturbingly unprofessional. under normal circumstances, a good manager would respond to a customer by saying: "i truly appreciate you bringing this to my attention. we will have to go through some extensive training exercises with our employee to assure we focus on improving some of their weaker points." instead, he thought we would find comfort in someone getting suspended from what was likely a sub-par job in the first place, considering the overall performance of the restaurant.

to top it all off, this embarrassing fiasco took place over about 25 minutes, and sadly, was during a first-time visit that was arranged for my farther-in-laws birthday.

upon departure we were offered $10 gift certificates, which we promptly returned, having no intentions of ever dining there again.

scuzzis rules. i have eaten at scuzzi's multiple times and have always enjoyed a nice dinner with good service. however, a few months ago, this restaurant did something that i will always remember, as lame as that sounds. it was me and my boyfriends anniversary, he took me to the symphony downtown and we rushedbackto make it in time for our 10:30 reservation. (they close at 11.) of course the traffic was horrible, and we made it at 10:47. okay more like 10:50. the staff welcomed us anyway and were exceptionally friendly and made us feel at home, even though we were 20 minutes late and it was 10 minutes before closing time. our server was fabulous and our food was delicious, and we were the only two customers in the whole place. we tipped the server fat & still talk about the wonderful evening we had :)

forget all of these bad reviews, scuzzi's is daaa bomb

"rules are rules . . .". my guest and i went to scuzzi's with a restaurant.com coupon for $25 off. what a deal! restaurant.com makes it clear to the restaurants they do business with that our part of the deal is to present the coupon before ordering. their part is that if there is a problem with the order not complying with the restrictions, we will be told up front. so, we ordered off the lunch menu, which was a mistake on our part because it clearly states "dinner only". yes, we made a mistake. we finished dining. by the way, the shrimp sauteed in butter/garlic sauce is to die for! the chicken lazagna is dry and tasteless. the salads look like a child's portion and are wilted. anyway, our waiter cooly and nonchalantly presents our check with a smug look and states that he can not honor the coupon that we presented from the beginning because we ordered off the lunch menu. we expressed that it would have been nice if we had been told we made a mistake before we consumed our food! he left and camebackwith a new check reflecting the dinner prices for our meals and with the coupon deduction, and smuggly told us that that is the best he can do, even though he admitted that we got the smaller lunch portion, but were being charged for the dinner plates . . . but he gave us the deduction.

now, this wasn't about money--$25 off is a great deal, and i know it. this is about principal. we asked to speak with the manager, who we found out is the owner (maci? or something like that), who had an identical smug grin on his face as he told us, "rules are rules, and we all have to follow them". he obviously felt that since we were getting such a good deal to begin with, he shouldn't have to budge on the fact that we were charged for the larger portion but got the smaller portion, or the fact that they made a mistake too accepting the coupon from the beginning yet letting us order off the lunch menu without mentioning the faux pa (we sat down at 3:45 p.m.).

a serious wtf moment. i was born and bred in new york city and i'm very critical about italian food. i have yet to find a place in san antonio that even comes close to anything remotely resembling an average placebackhome.

that said, a very good friend of mine visited scuzzi's recently and told me i absolutely have to try it. admittedly, i was very excited about this potential find. so, last saturday we made special plans to eat there. we even heldbackon having lunch and snacking in order to have a strong appetite for dinner. since there was a short wait for a table, we decide to glance at the menu ahead of time to be ready once seated.

on the top of the menu we saw that there was a charge for sharing a plate...$2.99. honestly, that has got to be the most ridiculous and obnoxious thing i have ever seen on a menu. in a restaurant where they charge $14 for a 65 cent bowl of spaghetti, you would think something like that could be absorbed. are they going to charge additional for electricity for air conditioning for parties of 4 or more?
or, how about if you use 2 napkins?

i can afford $3, but this is a complete insult. this is the kind of nickle and diming that will put an establishment out of business. especially if you consider that there are 5000 other restaurants in san antonio including paesano's right across the highway. we got up and left immediately.

i don't care if the food is good, or even great. the ratings here could be perfect...i would never patronize a place that practices such an outrageous thing. additionally, i will go out of my way to tell everyone i know, not to go there. now, how much did they make in plate sharing that they wont ever see as new business...unbelievable.

i'd much rather see all the trees that were sacrificed and torn down to put this place up, returned to their original lives. it was a much more productive use of the land and overall contribution to life.

p.s. we went next door to willie's ice house and had an absolutely wonderful dinner.

7 out of 10. just ate there today and was quite pleased. we were craving salads, for some reason, and decided both to order salads. at $8 a piece we were worried about the expense. our waiter was extremely polite and helpful. he asked us if we wanted a half portion of the salad, which we did not know you could do. points to our waiter. i ordered the insalata scuzzi which was perfectly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. heart of palm were very tasty along with the sliced olives. the pine nuts could have been toasted and the canned artichokes cut into more bite size pieces. my friend ordered the insalata romana which consisted of a very mild gorgonzola cheese, balsamic vinaigrette, spinach and toasted almonds. it says caramelized onions but they were more fried than slowly cooked onions. still the salads were very good. our entrees consisted of pollo alla napolitano and lasagna di pollo al forno. the polla alla napolitano was decent. the grilled chicken is stuffed with ricotta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, zucchini, squash and italian herbs topped with a lemon butter mushroom sauce. the mushrooms could have been sauteed longer. they tasted like raw mushrooms that just leached out their water. lemon butter sauce needed more lemon and seasoned. chicken was a little dry but it is difficult to grill really thin pieces of chicken breast. i had the lasagna di pollo al forno. which was layers of pasta stuffed with smoked chicken, spinach and cheese served with sugarosa (tomato cream) sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. i liked this very much. good amount of sauce, the chicken was not too overly smokey, spinach was very tender and there was mounds of cheese everywhere. very big portion and very delicious. will gobackagain when i feel up to the drive.

interesting impression. i went there not long ago and i had never heard of this particular place and from the outside of the building you would expect it to be more casual than what it is. no problem though as the food was delicious. a small problem with my cuba libre though. the rocks glass was a bit to fancy. it looked like one of those martini glasses without the stem. why? way too much rum as well. i stuck with water after that, but my overall experience was good and i will bebackeventually.

first of all everyone has different opinions to what tastes good, so you can't knock it until you try it. my over all experience was plesent. i rate scuzzi's 8 out of 10. atmosphere 7.5 it wasn't as romantic as told the tables were too close andbacktobackbooths are not it. other then that i thought it was looking good. service 8.5 there was no wait at 9pm on a sunday. waiter was kind of creepie but other then that he knew what he was doing and kept the glasses full. food 9.0 i ordered gamberetti di scuzzi. it was delicious but the only bad thing was you have to order pasta on the side for it which makes the overall meal over $20. that why i gave the overall menu price a 7. try in you just might like it!!!!!!!!
