i have been to both locations , but more times to red hook. thefoodis good, the service is good. also, the ambiance. great for a date or families. great selection on the menu and always have tempting specials. i think what makes this place so good is the owner. you will see him there and he’ll talk. i feel like he really cares. the calamari arrabbiata is great, the pastas are cooked perfectly and the staff is on point. if you like italianfoodmake sure you hit this spot. truth be told, i have never been one to choose italian for eating out, but i’ll go there anytime! get there.
p.s. if you have the zuppa pescatore and say it’s less than the best...you’re a liar

thefoodhere was actually good. i sat at the bar and would have had a pleasant meal if it weren't for an obnoxious women sitting at the end of the bar. she dropped the "f" bomb more than a disgruntled person in a locker room. it wouldn't have bothered me, but there was a table behind me where a young girl and her family sat. i am sure they were happy when their meal ended. this is a family restaurant and there is no room this type of behavior. wake up manager!

i took two of my family members here that are from syracuse here to eat after a wonderful day of sightseeing. we were greeted by a less than happy server who seemed miserable. we then ordered a chocolate milk for my niece and it was spoiled. when i told this to the server she rudely said " we just bought that milk today it can't be bad" i then told her it was and requested a cranberry juice who've she brought with an attitude. we ordered a pepsi and when she brought it it was a disgusting mix of coffee and soda. (don't know how the heck that happened! ) i asked her for another and told her what happened... she rudely said "oh god i just got changed the soda and it was fine". i asked to speak to the manager and she was angry. she then proceeded to walk to the table and tell my family member that i was complaining to the manager! after that she never returned to our table to check on us or refill out drinks! the manager was super nice as well as the other servers and he brought us ourfoodand desserts. being a server for many years i understand that we all have bad days but she was just downright rude and did not belong in such an establishment as this. i observed her being rude to other customers also. in the end we did get a gift certificate from the manager for our next visit which was nice but i wish we had had a better experience the first time around. hope she was suspended or fired for her nasty rotten attitude. won't be going there again. i will pass the certificate on to a friend and hope they have a better experience. :( she didn't even seem to mind that my niece drank sour milk. just a rude person.

garlic!. that's the first thing you smell when you walk in the door. they use lots of fresh garlic in their dishes. the pasta and sauces are also fresh, reminds me of going to grandma's for dinner on sunday. she made her own noodles, her own sauce, and grandpa would pour you a glass of chianti from the gallon jug he got from the neighborhood italian grocery.

then we would sit around the kitchen table and tell stories while grandma boiled the pasta and made the rolls,. the sauce simmering away on the stove top, filling the room with a wonderful smell.

thefoodhere is just as fresh, just as savory, but the wine is a lot better and the service was just right. attentive but not intrusive.

even if you are not hungry, just go for the smell!

oh yeah.... some of the best italianfoodaround, oh my mama! this is the only place i order eggplant rollatini- it is always perfectly made, delicate & delicious.

good pizza. we went here for my birthday. not my favorite restaurant, but thefoodis definitely solid. the fig and ricotta pizza is their strongest thing.

thefoodwas your run-of-the-mill italian. all dishes were between $14 & $20. i ordered ravioli which was quite expensive for the portion, my husband ordered baked penne which was enough for a family of four. very cramped seating.

we came for the mid-week lunch special. thefoodwas very good and the service attentive. can't beat a three course meal for $12. the setting--kingston's "roundout", is also very picturesque. we'll come back.
