saus, located in faneuil hall, serves up belgian-inspired street food in a casual (and tiny) setting. the star of the show here are their crispy, perfectly salty belgian-style fries, served with your choice of dipping sauces. other menu options include lighthearted fare that pair well with fries (and are greasy enough for optimal late-night snacking), includingwafflesand sandwiches.

saus = awful. i am amazed to see how many people think that this place located next to faneuil hall serve authentic belgian fries. i have spent my childhood in belgium where my father worked for an us company.
belgian fries are supposed to be thick (crispy outside/firm inside).
what i've got at saus is a lower quality version of the fries that i can get at any mcdonald.
same thing for their waffles. sugarwafflesare supposed to be chewy and not crunchy because of overcooking!
i hope they get their act together because the taste just suck right now.

not feeling the love. we passed by saus early one morning and made a note to go back sometime when they were open because the concept sounded so good: belgian pomme frites, wafflesand frikendel, with a bevy of homemade sauces.

the restaurant exudes cool; all hardwood and stainless steel, with framed cartoons everywhere. sadly, saus was all style and no substance. the "frites" tasted just like the crap you'd get at wendys. i've had frites in belgium and these just didn't cut it - at all - but the homemade sauces were very good and made the potatoes somewhat more palatable. the salted caramel waffle was okay but not as good as other reviewers have claimed. my husband got the frikendel, which came out shriveled and burnt. very disappointing way to blow $25.

...delicious bites of the unbelievable belgian liegewafflestopped with homemade nutella, and one with their salted carmel. my opinion – thesewafflesare so damn good they need no sauce. debbie licked the sauce off the cup (not really, but she wanted to!)

a new restaurant serving belgian pomme frites, fried eggs andwaffles. how could i not be drawn to such an appealing trio? saus , open less than one month, is located on union street , relatively close to fanueil hall, the north end and city hall. i had eagerly followed the progress of saus on twitter , and stopped by the other day for my first taste. and i will be returning. the restaurant is small, able to seat around 20 or so people, and has some interesting decor, lots of pictures of french comics. i like the decor, and think it injects some originality and personality into the space. you order your food at the counter, and the menu is small, concentrating on frites and waffles. pomme frites can be ordered in three sizes, costing $4, $5.50, and $7, and you receive a free sauce with your order. additional sauces, of which there are at least a dozen varieties, cost $0.75 each. the sauces range from truffle ketchup to cheddar & duvel ale . you can also get poutine , in two sizes cost

try the poutine. we got the small poutine to share and it was excellent - authentic cheese curds melting around hot, salty, crisp fries and covered in house made gravy just like i remember from my years in quebec. staff is young, friendly, energetic and knowledgeable and i also loved the belgian comic-inspired decor. this place just opened but it feels like its been an integral part of the faneiul hall scene forever.

update: every subsequent visit to saus has been just terrific and fun. don't expect a full meal here, but to stop in for a casual street food snack as they often do in belgium, it is perfect. i've tried almost all of the different dipping sauces for the fries, and now sampled each of thewafflesas well. the liege style waffle with salted caramel is the winner, narrowly edging out the fabulously decadent homemade nutella waffle. the staff knows me by name now, and probably my cardiologist as well.

prepared like dough as opposed to batter thesewafflesare rich and dense. crystals of pearl sugar are infused lending a crunchy texture and a balanced but not overpowering sweetness.

we just love smaller, independently-owned places that, once you step inside, seem to whisk you away to another part of the world. one of our favorite countries is belgium. we always love the time spent in antwerpen and brussels and the food, wherever you go, is always excellent. so, our recent visit to saus, the new eatery in boston was really a very pleasant surprise. two of the three founders of saus, tanya kropinicki and chin kuo. missing from the photo is renee eliah. the staff at saus is incredibly friendly. the menu at saus is pretty simple: pommes frites, poutine, deep fried egg and belgian liège waffles. liège is a major city in belgium, after which thewafflesare named. belgians are huge fans of comics and graphic novels. while in brussels we visited the comic strip center , one of the most popular destinations in the capital city. the place is cozy and definitely has a european flavor with black and white photos of the famous, small storybook village of bruges . if you hav

boston's first belgian street food cafe is now open! last tuesday, saus opened its doors to the adoring, frites-hungry boston audience. located in the bustling faneuil hall/government center area, saus is in a small place, has a small menu, but is generating a lot of big buzz, very quickly. they serve made-to-order belgian pomme frites with a variety of sauces ( saus! ) as well as liege waffles. thewafflesare made with pearl sugar, which gives it a crunchy, addicting texture. while the french fries are made with crack. i think. i'm not one to get obsessed with frites (although i find it hard to resist truffle fries ) but there was something about the crispy frites, the delectable dipping sauces, and the fun company of friends that made me deliriously happy when we were at saus. the fries were pretty addicting and as soon as chin , one of the owners, set it down on our table, we all turned into dip-happy frites groupies, declaring which sauces were our favorites, munching away with bi

if you heard a new restaurant was opening up and all it was serving were fries and waffles, would you go? i wouldn't have to think twice. and i shouldn't say just fries andwaffles-- fries, waffles, and a crazy variety of dipping sauces! that is exactly what saus does... and does well. "part classic americana, part authentic european, saus takes the best of both worlds by fusing traditional made-to-order pommes frites (belgian fries) with an ecelectic menu of dipping sauces." - saus website on thursday night, i met up with a group of friends at saus to sample some of those made-to-order pommes frites and dipping sauces. i trekked over after work, hopping from the redline to the sardine-packed greenline, tumbling out of the train at haymarket, and meandering my way to union street. i knew saus occupied a very small spot on the street and walked slowly so as not to miss it. i caught sight of the sign over the doorway, the chalkboard menu in the front window, and then daisy , michelle ,
