samurai sushi and hibachi

too many restrictions and poor service. went there on a wednesday for their 3 sushi rolls for $20 deal. after being told that me and my wife couldn't share the sushi, we ordered our own. then i get told for every sushi that is left on the plate, they charge you a $1 on your final bill. now i have eaten at this place plenty of times and i could have sworn they made the rolls bigger on purpose. got charged $15 for the rolls that we could not eat. total spent $55. i was extremely dissatisfied with the service because of too many restrictions on specials and horrible service. also if you buy any deals from livingsocial or other websites for samurai....watch out for added restrictions. got burnt on that one in the past!!!

delicious food!!!!. we just moved here and since i haven't tried hibachi before, my husband took me there for my birthday. i've had the salmon and my husband had steak/shrimp and everything was very delicious! the rice was the best i've ever tasted, the cook was very nice, making jokes and made us laugh trough the whole cooking process-i'm definitely taking my kids there too. i'd give them five stars!

horrible staff. we wanted to try the hibachi but since it was only my wife and i, and we were on a bit of a schedule, we opted for the traditional dining area. we were told only one of us could get hibachi, the other had to get something else!?! i thought perhaps it was a fluke...i.e. bad waitress but i called back several weeks later and asked for verification and this is indeed a policy of theirs. i have had no problem ordering hibachi at other like restaurants. epic fail! by the time this outfit realizes their mistake, they won't be able to give their food away. add this to the list of guaranteed failures for the dsm area restaurant scene.

i wanted to like it.... let me say that the place looked great, we had a very nice server/service, and i had multiple people tell me they liked it a lot. but when my husband and i went there to eat lunch today we were very disappointed. we ordered some sushi and entrees. i had ordered the soba noodle dish and was very excited. i love soba noodles and rarely see them on a menu. when my meal came out they were the lo mein egg noodles, not the wheat soba noodles that it specifically said on the menu. then our sushi had chopped/shredded fish in the roll. so our salmon and tuna in the rolls were basically like chopped mush. i am sorry to say i will not go back. horrible food.

best sushi in town- and i'll tried them all. love the $10 specialty rolls every monday and tuesday! great lunch specials! all you can eat sushi rolls and $5 martinis on wednesday. must try the fantastic and empero rolls!!!!! owner tim always says hello.

best sushi in iowa. i highly recommend samurai. i've had sushi from coast to coast and samurai in des moines is as good as any authentic sushi place in the states. tim (the owner) is amazing and always goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is good.
samurai is a regular stop for me for lunch. my kids love the hibachi dinner.

very good sushi. i do not live in ia bur frequently am in west des moines for business. 6 months ago samuari was recommended by a co-worker and i eat at least once a week there when i am in town. the staff is great and so is the sushi. always fresh and great flavor. i have recommended samurai and taken many co-workers and customers who also have enjoyed the establishment

it's the experience that one has that surpasses one sushi joint from the next. nine times out of ten, tim, the owner, is on the floor interacting with his guests. tonight i choose to sit at the sushi bar and had a great time chatting with tim about his choice of fish distributors and the supply in general. one of the specials he persuaded me to try was the toro sashimi (bluefin tuna) delivered not even an hour ago. by far the freshest sashimi i've had, well, in the midwest anyway. other rolls i sampled were the fanasric roll, huge chunks of lobster were the star in this one, and the green dragon roll, the typical yummy eel and avocado combo. the servers were very attentive, made saki recommendations, and were friendly. possibly the only downside that i noticed was that the rolls may have been a little more pricy on average in comparison to other sushi spots in the des moines area. but after chatting with tim about how he does business, the call he can make to hawaii tonight and have fish delivered tomorrow, that explains the price you pay for hands down the freshest sushi in town.

great sushi!. one of my favorite sushi restaurants! my friends & i visit for lunch about twice per month, and look forward to each visit. seaweed salad is crispy & fresh. sashimi is always great (my fave is the white tuna), and specialty rolls are flavorful & filling. they usually have some rolls on special mondays & tuesdays. my only negatives are that the service is a bit inconsistent and the sushi pieces are sometimes made too large. other than that, this restaurant is a great choice!!

blah...d+ at best. my friend had sushi, i had chicken hibachi. the sushi was "bland". my chicken, fried rice and veggies tasted as if little more had been done to them other than pouring a pint of soy sauce on them. will not be going back to this place.

very good. i went there for lunch and was initially a little put off by the combo of sushi, espn on flat screen tv's, and jazz music...but they make good sushi. i did not try the hibachi or the noodles, but maybe next time.
